As I said above there’s a table where I’ve ranked the players but there’s a load of stats to help you make your own decision.  There’s also a key below the table to explain the stats and then some narrative on the player plus the next 6 fixtures.

Costa

A blank away to Newcastle although he did have chances in that game.  He’s now blanked in his last 2.  However it would take a brave FPL manager to sell him with the next 3 fixtures coming up and especially Hull at home next.  Underlying shooting and creating chances stats are holding up although he’s yet to claim an assist.  Disappointingly started in the dead rubber Champions League as Mourinho goes from him needing rest to needing to having to improve his fitness?

Hull (H)
Stoke (A)
West Ham (H)
Southampton (A)
Spurs (A)
Newcastle (H)

Bony

A really neat finish in the game against West Ham made it 3 goals and an assist in his last 4 and returning in each of the 4 games.  This shows what good and consistent form he ‘s in.  Excellent underlying shooting and creating chances stats as well.  Fixtures are very good.

Next 6 fixtures

Spurs (H)
Hull (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Liverpool (A)
QPR (A)
West Ham (H)

Sakho

Started from the bench after coming back from injury with Enner Valencia starting. Scored and made such an impression that it’s hard to see him not starting this weekend.  The goal means he’s scored or assisted in 7/9 games so far this season.  He also scored in 5 consecutive premier league games previously.  Although he doesn’t create chances his shooting stats are only bettered by Aguero.  The only risks are that this isn’t Diego Costa who won La Liga with Athletico and played in the  Champions League final and was 3rd in goalscoring (only 1 behind Messi).  This is a guy who last year was playing in the 2nd tier of the French League.  So can he keep it up?  The next 4 fixtures are also tricky apart from Leicester.  However it’s important to remember that he’s not £11.0m like Costa he’s £5.8m and he does give you the option of playing 3-5-2 and rotating out the difficult fixtures

Sunderland (A)
Leicester (H)
Chelsea (A)
Arsenal (H)
West Brom (H)
Swansea (A)

Rooney

An assist to add to his 2 consecutive goals prior to last week.  There’s no doubting his quality it’s just those lingering positional issues which have been swept under the carpet with Falcao on the bench.   The residuial risk being that Falcao pairs with RVP and Rooney either plays number 10 or worse if Mata holds his place, in the midfield.  The argument against is that Rooney has been in such good form as a striker that it’s unlikely to happen, especially with LVG criticising Falcao’s fitness.  No shooting stats although you have had a guy who’s playing out of position alot of the time so difficult to hold that against him.  Fixtures are a little mixed

Liverpool (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Newcastle (H)
Spurs (A)
Stoke (A)
Southampton (H)

Pelle

Finally scored against United after 6 games which saw no goals (although did get 2 assists).  Still that was on the back of difficult fixtures and these ease at least for the next 3.  Underlying stats have dropped off in the last 4 after being excellent all season for shooting and creating chances

Burnley (A)
Everton (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Chelsea (H)
Arsenal (H)
Man Utd (A)

RVP

2 goals and a 13 point haul followed a goal and an assist in GW13 which gave a 10 point haul.  Shall we just ignore the 3 goals and no assists in 11 games before that and assume he’s now the old RVP?  £12.5 is a big price to pay for that gamble.  Certainly the underlying shooting stats have been improving but they’re hardly £12.5m material.  Fixtures are a little mixed and dispite the results United are not playing well

Liverpool (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Newcastle (H)
Spurs (A)
Stoke (A)
Southampton (H)

Jovetic

Came on as a 2nd half sub for 12 minutes  in the Champions League .  Whether he will be fit enough to start is therefore questionable.  Whether Pellegrini will play 2 strikers is questionable as well, especially with Silva back.  These are the reasons to be cautious about Jovetic.  However he has scored 2 goals and an assist in his last 3 games.  His underlying stats are also pretty good.  It’s just that if Pellegrini does play 1 striker then Dzeko is the more natural player to lead the line.  Fixtures are excellent

Leicester (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
West Brom (A)
Burnley (H)
Sunderland (H)
Everton (A)

Dzeko

Will probably be the most likely regular starter after the Aguero injury given he is a more natural player to lead the line than Jovetic.  However he’s a streaky scorer at best and we know he can miss from 2 yards in one game and in the next game get 2 goals.  However his record this season couldn’t be much worse.  In 12 games he’s scored 2 goals and 1 assist although he has only started 6.  His shooting stats are good though and the fixtures couldn’t be much better.  However if your criteria is form plus fixtures you need to put aside the form part if you’re looking at Dzeko

Leicester (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
West Brom (A)
Burnley (H)
Sunderland (H)
Everton (A)

Benteke

A goal and an assist in the 2 games since coming back from injury and good fixtures are the reason for taking the plunge with Benteke.  Reasonable pedigree with 29 goals and 6 assists at an FPL point every 18.4 minutes is not a bad return

West Brom (A)
Man Utd (H)
Swansea (A)
Sunderland (H)
Crystal Palace (H)
Leicester (A)

Lukaku

Anyone who’s got QPR at home next is going to get attention.  2 goals in his last 4 games makes it 6 goals and 1 assist over the season as a whole. The underlying stats aren’t great either.  You’ve got ok fixtures but little form

QPR (H)
Southampton (A)
Stoke (H)
Newcastle (A)
Hull (A)
Man City (H)
