Firstly here’s the team. The transfer in the end was Aguero out and Dzeko in. Here’s the team and talking you through the process to get there.
Firstly regarding the transfers. My overall question was whether to take a 4 point hit or not. In the end I could field a full attacking team (although Marney is a dubious attacking player) and I’m always a bit reluctant to take a 4 point hit for defensive players especially with the January wildcard around the corner.
The closest I came to a 4 point hit was Sakho in for Aguero and then Marney out and YYT in to play a revolving 3-5-2. In the end I didn’t go for it although I came very close. 2 cheap forwards just didn’t seem right even in the short term but I was very close to doing it.
I then turned to Dzeko and that led me to think about whether I should replace Marney with a 4 point hit as well and the names of Downing, Nasri, Oscar and Mata all came to mind. However I ruled out Downing as away to Sunderland didn’t seem worth it. Nasri seemed a compromise on YYT and Silva who would have been my preffered choice. Mata I’m still unsure of gametime if Falcao gets back into the team. Oscar was the biggest temptation as he has such an immediate impact but then I realised I already have 3 Chelsea players!
In the end it all came back to Man City. If I wasn’t going to take a hit then without Dzeko I would have no coverage of City. While coverage is such a controversial subject there was no way I was going into Leicester away and the fixtures thereafter without some ability to share in the points. The alternatives I looked at were Bony but 2 Swansea players and no City seemed a bit ridiculous. Lukaku at home was also an option with QPR at home.
The captain option was only between Costa and Hazard. I generally prefer a striker to a midfielder. Hazard has the big score potential though but I stuck with Costa.
