fantasy premier league gameweek 16 – the early bandwagon and sinking ships

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league gameweek 16 early bandwagons and sinking ships article where we look at the 5 most transferred in and out players so far in the gameweek.  I do get a few comments wondering why I don’t cover some players but these are as the FPL site shows transfers in and out at the time of writing

The Bandwagons

These are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek

Ozil

Hard to believe that there are many people who don’t own the £9.6m Arsenal midfielder.  A single assist and a single bonus point was a disaapointment given the opposition at the weekend and the fact that Arsenal scored 3 goals.  However it’s impossible to knock the fact that he’s returned a goal or assist in everyone of his last 9 games.  His return rate of an FPL point every 12.5 minutes and his incredible consistency rate (ie the % of games that a goal or assist is returned) of 79%  is the best in the premier league.  His assists returns are no fluke either as he has the best creating chances stats of any player in the premier league.  The only shadow is lack of shooting despite even despite his CAM position which has shown in his low goal return of 2 goals as opposed to 12 assists.  Fixtures are a little mixed but Aston Villa next is a good time to buy

Alderweireld

The £5.6m Tottenham CB didn’t get a clean sheet against WBA but did come up with an assist in the draw at WBA.  There’s no doubting the strength of the Spurs defence.  Prior to the weekend I rated them the 4th best defence and Alderweireld is a good attacking force 2 with 2 goals and 2 assists so far this season.  His underlying attacking stats are also veru good so those returns aren’t luck.  The negative is that their only 1 clean sheet in the last 6 games.  Also he’s a little more expensive than Dier, Walker and Rose all who seem fairly gametime secure at around £5.1/£5.2m.  However good fixtures coming up and Newcastle next makes this a good time to buy.

Newcastle (H)
Southampton (A)
Norwich (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (A)
Leicester (H)

Barkley

A blank in the Monday night football game against Palace hasn’t put off FPL managers buying the £7.4m CAM of Everton.  3 goals and 2 assists in the 2 games prior to that plus his central attacking position have sealed that.  Form and his position and 90 minute reliability are the main attractions plus now a very high ownership among the active FPL managers.  The negatives are his consistency rate over the season of 40% although his overall return rate of an FPL point every 15.3 minutes is very good thanks to some big hauls.  The next 3 fixtures are very attractive even if the 3 after are more difficult

Norwich (A)
Leicester (H)
Newcastle (A)
Stoke (H)
Spurs (H)
Man City (A)

Ighalo

The £5.9m Watford forward has been sensational leading the line for Watford this season and his 9 goals and 5 assists have somehow gone under the radar this season. These returns are no fluke though as he has excellent shooting and creating chances stats to back them up as well as bring an excellent scoring record from the championship last season. His return rate of an FPL point every £12.8 mins is incredible and his consistency rate of 60% is also sensational.  Very rarely gets subbed too as when started has got past 85 minutes in 12/14 games.  The negatives are the fixtures after the Sunderland game which are very difficult

Sunderland (A)
Liverpool (H)
Chelsea (A)
Spurs (H)
Man City (H)
Southampton (A)

De Bruyne

A blank at the weekend against Stoke for the £10.8m Man City midfielder hasn’t deterred FPL managers from transferring him in.  To be fair had he taken his 1 big chance things would have been very different.  He also interestingly occupied the CAM position mostly with Silva on the flanks which is another positive.  His minutes per FPL point of 12.9 is excellent and his consistency return rate of 55% is also very good.  The fixtures are a bit mixed with a couple of tricky games but a home game (where his returns have been stronger) to Swansea is a good time to buy

Swansea (H)
Arsenal (A)
Sunderland (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (A)
Everton (H)

The Sinking Ships

These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek

Alexis Sanchez

The £11.0m Arsenal midfielder has a hamstring injury with no official return date although previously there was some talk of the 21st December.  Given the uncertainty and the number of games around the Christmas period plus his cost he’s a natural sell.  Walcott looks a potential dangerous beneficiary although he only played 27 minutes at the weekend

Aston Villa (A)
Man City (H)
Southampton (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Newcastle (H)
Liverpool (A)

Pelle

Those who held on to the £8.2m Southampton forward for the plaum Villa tie at the weekend came away disappointed after a blank.  That makes it 3 consecutive blanks and 1 goal being the sole return in the last 6 games.  His 6 goals and 5 assists have come at a disappointing FPL point every 18.3 minutes and his consistency return rate of 43% isn’t great either.  Underlying stats over the season though are good which is positive for a turnaround.  Fixtures especially the next 3 could be better

Crystal Palace (A)
Spurs (H)
Arsenal (H)
West Ham (A)
Norwich (A)
Watford (H)

Coutinho

The £8.4m Liverpool attacking midfielder didn’t play last week either in the Cap 1 or GW15 due to a hamstring injury and his playing prospects for the weekend don’t seem any better.  That unsurprisingly has lead to FPL managers selling.  His natural replacement is potentially Firmino although Klopps pressing style seems to end with alot of rotation so him or Lallana seem to have gametime risk attached to any transfer

West Brom (H)
Watford (A)
Leicester (H)
Sunderland (A)
West Ham (A)
Arsenal (H)

YaYa Toure

Didn’t play in GW15 due to an injury although has returned to training before the Champions League game.  After a good start to the season it’s 1 goal and 1 assist in his last 10 starts and he’s become anything but a 90 minute player only playing 90 minutes twice in the last 7 games.  His underlying stats don’t help the situation.  He has some shots on target stats but little else.  Aguero’s injury may though give him pen duties although Aguero’s injury seems difficult to determine the length at the moment.  The fixtures are a bit mixed but home to a struggling Swansea team probably isn’t the natural time to sell.

Swansea (H)
Arsenal (A)
Sunderland (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (A)
Everton (H)

Kompany

Is there no end to the injury saga of the £6.2m Man City CB?  Apparently due back at the weekend but it’s hard to have any confidence in a return date at the moment.  Demichelis was the beneficiary at the weekend but he too is now an injury doubt so the hapless Mangala could step up.  However how much use that would be at the moment remains questionable as Man City have yet to get a clean sheet in the PL without Kompany and have 7 in 8 games with him in the team.  Should they not get one against the rather toothless Swansea team then the ability of the Man City team to get clean sheets without him will be really put into focus.  Especially for those thousands with Kolarov in their team as Arsenal away could be a natural selling point
