fantasy premier league gameweek 19 – my imaginary wildcard

Fantasy Premier League

wildcard (1)

Here’s my fantasy premier league GW19 imaginary wildcard.  This is where we pretend that we have a wildcard to play in order to give you some food for thought over transfers for GW19.  It gives a bit more longevity on your picks than those just for GW19 alone

Here’s the team with some narrative over the reasoning behind the decisions.  The value is around £104.0m

GK

I’ve gone for the Sunderland GK and reserve combination for the save points.  I would have preffered a combination that had a £4.0m reserve but 4 clean sheets in the last 7 show that there is defensive strength there.

Defence

I’ve gone for the Chelsea and Arsenal as the cornerstones of my defence.  Neither have particularly good fixtures but Chelsea are definitely the strongest defence in the league with 6 clean sheets in their last 7 games.  Cahill is the least rotatable of the similarly priced defenders excluding Ivanovic.  Arsenal are a strong defensive team despite the stick they get.  The underlying stats and the presence of Koscielny, when fit, will see clean sheets and I think the current run of no clean sheets in 4 will be turned around.

The next 3 are rotatable defenders based on a 3-4-3 formation.  I’ve gone for all 3 for value and good fixtures in the short term.  Hutton seems secure in his place but there is undoubetdly some gametime risk with K Toure and Bruce but they both represent good value

Midfield

Sanchez and Hazard are must haves in my mind given their current form fixtures or not.  City are in such good form that they deserve representation in your team.  For me it’s between YYT with 5 goals and an assist in his last 8 and penalty duties or Silva with 3 goals and an assist in the 3 games since he returned from injury.

Sterling is my pick for the Liverpool fixtures and the fact that he’s playing up front.  Here’s the fixtures:

Swansea (H)
Leicester (H)
Sunderland (A)
Aston Villa (A)
West Ham (H)
Everton (A)

His goal against Burnley I’m gambling will be the turning point after the numerous chances missed against Man Utd and Arsenal.  His low ownership among the leading FPL managers makes him something of a differential at least for now.

Siggy is the tricky one.  Like the 10 FPL managers I follow I’m still sticking with him for now despite some indifferent form.  His ownership is certainly a reason to hold.   1 goal in his last 4 isn’t exactly the  greatest form in the world but his CAM positioning, set pieces and relationship with Bony have seen a fairly consistent 8/17 47% return rate.  Whether things will diminish significantly when Bony goes to the African Cup of Nations in a couple of gameweeks is another thing.

Forwards

Diego Costa is still an essential at the moment for me.  2 goals and an assist in his last 3 is testament to the fact that he can’t be ignored.  Again the top 10 FPL managers I follow are still 100% behind him as well.

For the next 2 positions, I’ve gone for 2 cheapie strikers in excellent form.  Charlie Austin has an incredible 10 goals and 2 assists in his last 10 games.  He also has pens and 3 excellent fixtures next.  He’s also got good underlying stats to show it’s no fluke.  Here’s the next 6 fixtures:

Crystal Palace (H)
Swansea (H)
Burnley (A)
Man Utd (H)
Stoke (A)
Southampton (H)

Harry Kane is another striker in great form with 3 goals and an assist in his last 3 games.  He doesn’t have the fixtures particularly but the low cost allows investment in the midfield but also allows a rotating front 8 to give more flexibility as to your week to week choices.

Hope that gives you some food for thought for your GW19 transfer decisions
