I thought it was a good time to retierate the purpose and benefits of this article. The idea is to look at a small number of managers who’ve proven themselves with better than 10k finishes over the all of last 3 seasons. That way you have proven consistent managers who’ve adapted successfully to different seasons challenges. The small sample also shows you possible up coming trends such as the sale of Vardy for Aguero, the purchase of Ramsey and this week the sales have started of Kolarov. I’ve also added in a new part where we follow 1 manager in particular

I’ll give the FPL managers stats, their GW19 scores and then outline their teams and structure. The stats of the top 10 managers are incredible.
1. The overall average finishing position of the top 10 managers is 1,464
2. The top 10 FPL managers have not been out of the top 10k in the last 3 years (ie 30 times playing)
3. 9 of the 10 have finished in the top 1,000
4. 5 of the 10 managers have finished in the top 100
GW19 average score and rank
The average score of the managers in GW19 was 70 compared to the average of 57. Thats 13 points and 23% above the average. The high score of the 10 was 81. The low score was 58. A relatively high spread of 23 for the average. The green to red arrow ratio was evenly split with 5 each
The average overall rank of the top 10 FPL managers incredibly stayed the same at 327k from 327k the last gameweek. . The best rank is 28k and the lowest 821k.
If you’re interested my score was good for a change at 80 helped by a clean sweep of clean sheets as it were. That saw a huge improvement in rank from 703k to 565k. An increase of rank of 138k. Thats a rise of 250k in the last 2 weeks mainly through defence, captain picks and a couple of differentials. I remain ahead of 2 of the top 10 managers. I’m 100 points behind an overall rank of 28k though.
The average team value
The average team value stays the same at £105.7 as it was last week.
GK/Defs by player
Moreno is owned by 9/10 FPL managers
McCarthy is in 8/10 of the FPL managers teams
Bellerin is in 7 of the 10 FPL managers teams
Butland and Richards are in 4 of the FPL managers teams
Wollscheid Hennessey De Gea and Simpson and are in 3 of the 10 FPL managers teams
GK/Defs by team
C Palace GK/Defs are in 14 of the 10 FPL managers teams (I’ve counted both Hennessey and McCarthy)
Liverpool GK/Defs are in 10 of the 10 FPL managers teams
Stoke and Arsenal GK/Defs are in 7 of the 10 FPL managers teams
Man City and Spurs are in 5 of the FPL managers teams
Aston Villa, and WBA defenders/GKs are in 4 of the FPL managers teams
Midfielders
Mahrez is in 10/10 FPL managers teams
De Bruyne is in 8/10 FPL managers teams
Ozil is in 7/10 FPL managers teams
Ramsey is in 6/10 FPL managers teams
Westwood and Alli are in 3/10 FPL managers teams
Forwards
Kane is in 10/10 FPL managers teams
Lukaku is in 10/10 FPL managers teams
Aguero is in 5/10 FPL managers teams
Giroud and Vardy is in 2 of the 10 FPL managers teams
GW19 Captain Choice
Ozil was captain of 4/10 of the FPL managers teams
Aguero and Giroud was captained twice
Lukaku and Walcott was captained once
How many have used their wildcard/chips
10/10 have used their wildcards. 6 of the 10 has used their all out attack chip.
Transfers

Vardy was transferred out 3 times
Kolarov was transferred out twice
No one else was transferred out more than once

Ramsey was transferred in 3 times.
Wollscheid, Aguero and Walcott were transferred in twice

Team structure
Typically the GK was a cheap GK with McCarthy/Hennesey as a reserve although 3 now are using an elite GK of DeGea
In the main 2 or 3 defenders from the group of Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool and Spurs were in the team. A couple have now followed my lead of 4
The amount of teams with a proper 5th mid has increased to nearly half with the transfer in of Alli
There was a mixture of values of strikers
More and more players over £6.0m are outside the teams of Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool and Spurs.
The top ranked managers team
Here’s the team who currently has the highest rank out of the top 10 FPL managers I follow at 28k
An interesting team. Firstly you notice he’s got a 5 man midfield with Ritchie and Alli the cheap 5th midfielder rolled into 1 to be able to afford Aguero.
The current high 10k ownership players according to FPL discovery are
Arsenal defender, Spurs defender, Mahrez, Ozil, De Bruyne, Barkley, Lukaku, Ighalo and Vardy
Out of that lot he doesn’t own a Spurs defender, Barkley, Ighalo and Vardy. He’s taken them on with Moreno, Alli/Ritchie, Aguero and Kane respectively. Interestingly he ditched Vardy for Aguero last week.
This week he got the captain choice right going with the polls leader in Ozil despite having Aguero in the team.
I can’t really pin down the reason why he’s been so successful. He certainly got Butland and Mahrez early in GW3 which helped. He also got De Bruyne fairly early. He seems to have taken virtually no 4 point hits and used his wildcard in GW3. He has a very high team value in 106.8 as well.
A combined top 10 team
Here’s a team to represent that. Unfortunately the value is an unrealistic £110m showing that value is useful at the moment with Aguero back in the frame. I’ve shown it for illustration purposes rather than a realistic team. A simple way to get it to realism is to swap Aguero for Vardy
