As I said above there’s a table where I’ve ranked the players but there’s a load of stats to help you make your own decision.  There’s also a key below the table to explain the stats and then some narrative on the player plus the next 6 fixtures.

Costa

A 16 point haul against Swansea capped off 3 consecutive returning games.  Does seem to have a problem with bonus points but the most consistent % returner of games with goals and assists. Rested for the FA Cup game but will almost certainly lineup against Liverpool in the Capital One semi.  High ownership among the leading managers and the general population makes him a dangerous player not to own especially when you see him as the focal point of the most dangerous team in the league.  Overall underlying stats are good although they’ve ironically dropped off a little recently.

Man City (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Everton (H)
Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)
West Ham (A)

Aguero

Hasn’t really been himself since the injury and a tough game against Chelsea gives some reason to hold off if you haven’t bought him already.  However this is the most deadly player in the league and the best returner on a per minute basis.  Once the Chelsea game is over he will be a captain favourite and will have a huge ownership among the leading players.  If Costa is a dangerous player not to own there probably isn’t a more dangerous player in the league not to own.  Has pens and the best shooting stats of any forward.  Played the full 90 against Boro in the FA Cup.

Chelsea (A)
Hull (H)
Stoke (A)
Newcastle (H)
Liverpool (A)
Leicester (H)

Giroud

Not the most consistent returner in the world but has good fixtures coming up and has big score potential plus a great midfield to provide chances.  Really good overall underlying stats too.  If you’re going to buy him home to Villa is the time to do so

Aston Villa (H)
Spurs (A)
Leicester (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Everton (H)
QPR (A)

Kane

Has been in great form but the problem is fixtures next.  However if you look at the Chelsea game then maybe fixtures don’t matter.  Doesn’t register on the underlying stats front which just makes it difficult to understand whether any slow down in scoring is permanent or a blip.  Very high ownership among the leading group of managers.  Played 3 minutes in the FA Cup but will surely play in the Capital One semi this week

West Brom (A)
Arsenal (H)
Liverpool (A)
West Ham (H)
QPR (A)
Swansea (H)

Pelle

Scored yesterday in the FA Cup although in FPL it’s still only 1 assist in his last 5.  This is about his feats earlier in the season and the fixtures coming up as opposed to recent form.  Still has very good underlying shooting and creating chances stats which does give you some hope that things will improve

Swansea (H)
QPR (A)
West Ham (H)
Liverpool (H)
West Brom (A)
Crystal Palace (H)

Gayle

The Palace striker was rested in the FA Cup.  Only started 3 games in the season before the last 2 starts.  However those 2 games just gone have seen 3 goals and an assist and 24 points.  Even in his 3 starts prior to that he had scored 2 goals and an assist.  So there is form and there is fixtures with the next 3 having potential.  What there isn’t is a history of scoring in the premier league but you could have said that about Charlie Austin

Everton (H)
Leicester (A)
Newcastle (H)
Arsenal (H)
West Ham (A)
Southampton (A)

RVP

It’s hard to believe this was the FPL darling who in the 11/12 and 12/13 seasons scored 56 goals and 28 assists in the premier league alone.  No form with no returns in his last 3 and poor season returns plus no consistency.  What he does have is fixtures and history plus pens.  There’s also no standout option at Utd to take advantage of those fixtures.  Poor underlying stats don’t help the situation.

Leicester (H)
West Ham (A)
Burnley (H)
Swansea (A)
Sunderland (H)
Newcastle (A)

Berahino

2 goals in his last 3 games has finally seen a return to form for the player who started the season so brightly but then went 9 games without a return (although 4 as sub).  Little in the way of underlying stats although the last 4 games have seen some improvement.  Has pens but this is in the main is about a set of good fixtures.  Transfer rumours could either inspire or distract.

Spurs (H)
Burnley (A)
Swansea (H)
Sunderland (A)
Southampton (H)
Aston Villa (A)

Austin

His recent purple patch coincided with a series of good fixtures especially at home.  However since then it’s 1 goal in 4 games and that was a pen.  Over the season though he has been consistent especially for the price but this is whether you think he can keep going in a series of mixed fixtures.  Recent underlying stats have been good even if on a season basis they have dropped off.  Has pens

Stoke (A)
Southampton (H)
Sunderland (A)
Hull (A)
Spurs (H)
Arsenal (H)

Falcao

Another player propelled into the rankings purely by fixtures as there’s little consistency, returns or form to recommend him.  It’s about fixtures and a quality that we know must be there somewhere.  Has had some doubts over his starting place but has started 5 in the last 6 although subbed around 60 minutes in 2.  His agents words don’t help his relationship with LVG though.

Leicester (H)
West Ham (A)
Burnley (H)
Swansea (A)
Sunderland (H)
Newcastle (A)
