fantasy premier league gameweek 26 Saturday review

Gameweek analysis

I’m dropping the fantasy premier league match gameweek 26 analysis as I’ve done before to do it in a different way.  I’m going to make a few comments on various performances rather within the frame work of individual games rather  than go through individual stats.

Spurs 2 Newcastle 1

Gareth Bale was the first of my “follow the 10 pointers” from last week to play and came up trumps with a 2 goal return.  I’ll put the link at the bottom of the page.  Probably the most consistent midfielder in appearance on the overall  and  last 6 gameweek shooting stats.  He also is backed up as one of the few to create chances and is showing that he is undoubtedly fixture proof.  It’s just getting him in to your midfield with Mata, Walcott and Michu that can be difficult, especially if you want RVP and Suarez in your side.   He always has been a must have its just the balance between the rest of the acquisitions.  The fixtures aren’t great but that really doesn’t seem to matter.

Sissoko with 2 assists and 2 goals in his first 3 games plus and an advanced position plus good fixtures to come is looking a great option.   He led the gameweek 25 current  shooting stats and  although his stats were quiet this week he was away to a strong defensive team.

Chelsea 4 Wigan 1

Apparently it was a virus that saw Mata rested although he was still well enough to come on.  I would have thought a pointless European competition and an FA cup game against Brentford were better rest options but there you go.  Hazard scored and assisted and seems to flourish when Mata is rested but its doubtful in my mind whether he can do this when Mata starts so centrally and dominates play when he starts.

Azpilicueta has been rotated as well recently but 2 assists and the cheapest Chelsea defender at £5.7m he looks an option for the patient of Benitezs rotation.   Chelseas defence which although has very good underlying home stats hasnt seen a clean sheet in 4 home games.  However for Azpilicueta its 6 assists in 15 starts which is some record.  For me though his chances created per minute  are very poor and he’s overperforming these in my mind.   This is why I am wary despite a series of good fixtures.  Cole is the safest bet for game time.

2 goals in 2 games for Maloney who is easily the most advanced midfield player for Wigan and has just starting flirting with the last 6 shooting stats.  Only £4.8m and another alternative cheapie.

Norwich 0 Fulham 0

There are a lot better teams with underlying stats than the Norwich home defence but their ability to keep clean sheets is unquestioned when you consider the cheapie nature of the whole defence.  Definitely worth owning 1 for home rotation.

Snodgrass and Hoolahan were disappointingly quiet against a defence which is poor away from home.

Nothing in this game gave any faith in Fulhams ability away and for any reason to buy Berba

Stoke 2 Reading 1

This should have been a nailed on clean sheet for Stoke but again they couldn’t see it through and really it should have been 2-2 when a stonewall  penalty wasn’t given to Reading. The plus point though is that the defensive stats for Stoke were excellent and I can see them returning to clean sheets especially with the good fixtures to come.  However for me it will be with cheapie Wilson when he recovers (hopefully gameweek 27) who’s now £3.9m

Another assist for Harte.  Thats 2 in a row and he’s started the last 9.  I’m hoping Demel doesnt play now.

Sunderland 0 Arsenal 1

2 clean sheets in a row now for the much maligned by everyone, except me, Arsenal defence.  Yes they didn’t deserve it but a cleanie is a cleanie.  No surprises for a blank from Sunderland and I still maintain Fletcher has overperformed his underlying stats and this will catch up with him eventually

Swansea 4 QPR 1

Michu hadnt scored in 7 games before this but when you’re top of the last 6 shooting stats and therefore have had more shots in the box than any other midfuelder in this period and you’re 2nd in the overall shooting stats then eventually thats going to turn in to goals.  It took 8 minutes for his mishit finish to end up in the net and he followed it up with an assist and then a goal to show why Samba was part of the Blackburn team that let in a ridiculous amount of goals in the premier league.  Samba may be great in fantasy for attacking returns but I wouldn’t want him at the heart of my teams defence.

The stats in my srticle on who the best Swansea cheap midfielder showed that it was clearly Pablo and that faith was vindicated with a goal today.

Southampton 3 Man City 1

Southamptons pressing caused Man U all sorts of problems recently and City could just not handle it all today.  The City defence didn’t have Kompany or Nastasic so I’ve got some excuse for me backing them wrongly.   However the goals were all individual errors and I stick by my statement that they are the best defence in the league.  Zabaleta owners at least got an assist.

Puncheon again showed why I’ve said he is the best cheap midfielder in fantasy premier league with a goal.  He’s the only midfielder for his price that is in the overall shooting stats and again he’s in the last 6 gameweek shooting stats.  The pressing high up the pitch suits him and like his goal results in him winning possession high up the pitch.   The fixtures are now about to get better for Saints and he really is the best option at this price

Lambert has only been on the fringes of the shooting stats but is one of the best at creating chances for others.  Yesterday he was fantastic and rewarded those underlying stats with 2 assists.

Tevez was left out for personal reasons and Dzeko scored again.  However, he did little in the game but finished when required.  He is really looking like a great value acquisition if he can hold his place.  City really need Tevez in my mind though especially with neither Dzeko or Aguero pressing the opposition from the front like he does.  It remains to be seen what is going on with Tevez and how this affects Tevez’s future game time.  Certain of a place Dzeko would be a near must have acquisition at £7.4m

That it look out for my 2 other follow the 10 pointers Benteke home to Fulham and Gerrard home to WBA.  Good luck in the rest of fantasy premier league gameweek 26
