fantasy premier league gameweek 3 – The early bandwagons and sinking ships
The Bandwagons
These are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek
Naismith
The 3-5-2 bandwagon is definitely on the move with a number of FPL managers choosing it over 3 strikers. There are also a number of cheap striker options coming into play as well with Naismith and his 2 goals in 2 games the latest. Against Arsenal he played centrally almost as a false 9 and at the very worst is the central player in the attacking midfield 3 behind Lukaku. Tricky fixture next although Chelsea’s more attacking style hasn’t made them look as solid as last season. With Barkley out long term there’s no gametime threat either at the moment
Next 6 fixtures:
Chelsea (H)
West Brom (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)
Man Utd (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Dier
Another goal, another clean sheet. The young Spurs utility defender has 2 goals and 2 clean sheets to his name and incredibly is the top point scorer in fantasy premier league.
The main risk with Dier is gametime certainity in the future. The Spurs defence has a number of defenders to cover the Europa League and the fast paced game that Pochettino wants to play. Walker and Naughton are the RBs. Rose and Davies the LBs. Kaboul, Dawson, Vertonghen, Chiriches the CBs with Dier able to play CB or RB. What the longevity of his position is definitely questionable as you would think Walker will take the RB spot and that leaves him competing with Kaboul and Chiriches for the CB partner of Vertonghen. However there’s no return date on Walkers injury at the moment so he’s likely to play in the near future which should secure some short term price rises. Also don’t underestimate Pochettino’s ability to put youth in the team. This is the man who put Chambers in ahead of Clyne. Tricky fixture next. Home to Liverpool and in the next 6 Arsenal and Man City away
Certainly Pochettino’s ability to construct a team that can defend is not in question after his success with Southampton and 2 consecutive clean sheets. It’s just whether you want to take the gametime risk with the tricky fixture next
Next 6 fixtures:
Liverpool (H)
Sunderland (A)
West Brom (H)
Arsenal (A)
Southampton (H)
Man City (A)
Sigurdsson
Another assist to keep his 100% return rate going. He must also wonder how he didn’t score when he failed to finsih a gilt edged chance inside the box. Only Dyer had a higher average position of the Swansea team although he didn’t get the pen box touches he would have liked. Kept his CAM position as Gomis stayed on the bench. Great fixture next and apart from the Chelsea the rest don’t look too bad either. Swansea were hardly convincing against Burnley though.
West Brom (H)
Chelsea (A)
Southampton (H)
Sunderland (A)
Newcastle (H)
Stoke (A)
Ramsey
I don’t really need to say anything other than with 42% ownership he’s a must. Everytime he scores he will kill you with that percentage if you don’t own him. Again against Everton his ability to get into the box and his radar to find the ball gave his 2nd goal in 2 games. Both were from inside the 6 yard box.
Leicester (A)
Man City (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Spurs (H)
Chelsea (A)
Hull (H)
Ivanovic
Even at £7.1m people are still buying. It’s not surprising after what was an incredible rampaging attacking performance from the defender. To give you some context he had more pen box touches than Schurrle and Oscar and only 1 less than Hazard. It’s now a goal and an assist to add to his clean sheet. He may still be worth the high price. He certainly is a menAce at set pieces in the air and Fabregas’ delivery helps him. He also attacks well down the flanks so is one of the few defensive players who can score from set piece headers as well as get assists from crosses. The only negatives are the price and whether Chelsea are the strong defensive team they were last year. A few tricky fixtures in the next 6 including GW3 away to Everton
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
Man City (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Arsenal (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
And for 1 extra
Fabregas
3 assists and a 100% return rate is a great start to life back in the premier league for Fabregas. He’s also got the domination of set pieces including a share of direct free kicks. He also dispelled any worries that he might not get into the box and getting shooting chances by getting a few chances to do that against Leicester. Away to Everton should be a good test for the entire Chelsea team including Fabregas. He continues to make chances for others though as a basic point scoring source.
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
Man City (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Arsenal (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
The sinking ships
These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek
Sanchez
Playing as a central striker as he did for Arsenal in the first half was something his owners would have been waiting for. In the end it was a failure as he failed to provide any focal point and went off after 70 minutes odd without a single shot or chance created. There’s no doubting the class his contribution can make though. After this it looks more likey as a winger than a central striker. Away to Leicester is a good fixture to hold for 1 more game though
Leicester (A)
Man City (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Spurs (H)
Chelsea (A)
Hull (H)
Filipe Luis
Mourinho made no changes to the team for the Leicester match and those thinking maybe Luis was being saved for a home fixture against lower placed opposition were given a nasty surprise. Hard to justify holding at the minute thats for sure. Tricky defensive fixture next doesn’t help either
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
Man City (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Arsenal (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Giroud
Sold after not starting against Palace and against a backdrop of talk about not being match fit yet. He came on and absolutely transformed Arsenal against Everton giving them the focal point and the crossing option they so desperately needed. Scored the equaliser and could have had more. If you haven’t sold after that performance then Leicester next looks a good hold fixture
Leicester (A)
Man City (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Spurs (H)
Chelsea (A)
Hull (H)
Herrera
The Man Utd midfielder is injured until gameweek 4 and looks expensive at £7.4m considering he hasn’t looked like a box to box player but more of a deep lying passer which doesn’t immediately shout out FPL returns
Burnley (A)
QPR (H)
Leicester (A)
West Ham (H)
Everton (H)
West Brom (A)
Cameron
Bardlsey started again at RB which makes holding Cameron a difficult task. Doesn’t appear to be related to World Cup fatigue. Away to Man City next seems as goosd a time to sell as any
Man City (A)
Leicester (H)
QPR (A)
Newcastle (H)
Sunderland (A)
Swansea (H)
Hope that helps you with any early transfer decisions. Remember there are Capital One cup fixtures this week although not for Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. These often involve premier league secondstring teams though. There are also games for the European qualified teams of Arsenal, Spurs and Hull having qualifying fixtures for the Champions league and Europa League proper. Therefore some early transfers will include game related risk.
