fantasy premier league gameweek 33 tips – analysing 10 top FPL managers

Fantasy Premier League

9 green arrows for the 10 FPL managers this week. Bellerin, Fuchs, Payet, Siggy and Sanchez made the difference.  We also try and figure out how many have used their 2nd wildcard as this gameweek has opened

Ok so here’s our fantasy premier league gameweek 33 tips article. If you haven’t seen this before, this article includes the scores of the top 10 FPL managers as well as the team selection points. These are just not the current top 10 but 10 managers who’ve been successful over the last 3 years. The 10 managers have never finished outside the top 10k in the last 3 years (30 times playing FPL). The article is all about giving you another view point other than mine. Also the managers I have picked have been consistent showing they can adapt to different seasons.

The 10 managers FPL stats

I’ll give the FPL managers stats, their GW30 scores and then outline their teams and structure. The stats of the top 10 managers are incredible.

1. The overall average finishing position of the top 10 managers is 1,464

2. The top 10 FPL managers have not been out of the top 10k in the last 3 years (ie 30 times playing)

3. 9 of the 10 have finished in the top 1,000

4. 5 of the 10 managers have finished in the top 100

GW32 average score and rank

The average score of the managers in GW32 was 75 compared to the average of 47. Thats 28 points and 60% above the average. The high score of the 10 was 92. The low score was 63. A very high spread of 29.  9 of the 10 had green arrows

The average overall rank of the top 10 FPL managers took a big upwards step to 81k from 108k in the last gameweek. An increase of 27k. The best rank is 4k and the lowest 224k.

If you’re interested my score was ok in the context of the average of 64.  However a low one in the context of the above managers.   A small increase in rank to 197k from 213k in the last gameweek. An increase of rank of 16k. I remain ahead of only 1 of the top 10 managers. My team value is a disaster though at £101.3m. It reduced after using my wildcard as you obviously lose half of your increase in value.  My aim at the moment would be the top 100k which is around 30 points away. I’ve narrowed the gap by about 5 points from last week. So still no need to panic as thats not unobtainable.

The average team value

The average team value of the FPL managers decreased to £106.0m from £107.6m last week.  That will be for similar reasons to me as their wildcard would have been used

Simpson and Bellerin is in 7/10 of the FPL managers teams

McCarthy is in 5/10 FPL managers teams

Hennessey Van Dijk, Wollscheid, Williams and Fuchs are in 3 of the FPL managers teams

Comparison with the top 10k overall rank

Here’s a comparison between the players that make up the top 10 FPL managers and the top 10k overall ranked teams in FPL. The information is from the excellent site FPL discovery. We’ll show you the info and then talk through some thoughts on the meaning. Obviously with the 10 top managers the percentages are always going to be a factor of 10.  % at or greater than 100% could mean that 1 team has more than 1 player in that defensive team

Alot of what I’ll say now I said last week, It’s hard to do a comparison from the defensive side as alot of the FPL managers don’t have a specific player such as Alderweireld but may have a Spurs defender so get Spurs clean sheet coverage if not the specific attacking coverage.

From an attacking standpoint everyone over 50% in the top 10k ranked teams is represented in the top 10 FPL managers teams.

In terms of team structure then if you follow that as a rule your attacking team will have to have Mahrez, Ozil, Payet, Vardy, Kane and Aguero. That leaves 1 spaces for a differential or 2 if you have a 5 man midfield. The 10 FPL managers have filled that with Siggy, Sanchez and Arnautovic.

This is also why I speak about defence as a differential as the pool of players and even the pool of teams is far more diverse. This is especially so if you have the funds for attacking defenders.

GW32 Captain Choice

Aguero was the captain in 6/10 teams

Sanchez was captain in 2/10 teams

Kane and Ozil was a captain in 1/10 teams

Hits

1 of the managers took a 4 point hit.

How many have used their wildcard/chips

Prior to the gameweek no one has used their 2nd wildcard as yet. 1 used their all out attack chip so now 8 of the 10 have used their all out attack chip. Now you can’t tell until the new gameweek opens if a manager is using their chips.

Who have now activated their 2nd wildcard?

As I said there is no explicit way of telling if managers have activiated their wildcard.  However as you saw from my team when managers sell players that have increased in value they lose half that gain in value. As I keep records of the managers values I compared them to the last gameweek and it appears that 8/10 managers have activated their 2nd wildcard

Transfers

All 10 FPL managers made a transfer

Transfers out

Butland was transferred out 3 times

Alderweireld was transferred out twice

No one else was transferred out more than once

Transfers in

Payet was transferred in 6 times

Bellerin was transferred in 5 times

No one was transferred in more than once

When were the transfers done?

There were 19 transfers in total

1 were done on Sunday 20 March

2 were done on Monday 21 March

2 were done on Thursday 31 March

10 were done on Friday 1st April

4 were done on the 2nd of April

Formation

3-4-3 was done 9 times

2-5-3 was done once by the manager using all out attack

Team structure

I haven’t done this this week

Focus on 2 players team

I’ve often talked about defence as a differential for FPL managers in this season.  Here below is an incredibly good example of this.  The 2 managers gameweek score is 29 points difference.  However of the 7 attacking players there are only 2 differences and 9 points difference.  The other 20 came from the defence.  That meant a gameweek difference rank of over 500k.  Incredible and maybe an extreme example.  However as teams attacking lineups look the same defence has become a major point of difference.

Thats it.  I’ll be getting out an early article next week so we can see their wildcard teams
