fantasy premier league gameweek 33 tips – FFGeek picks

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my picks for fantasy premier league gameweek 33.    If you haven’t seen the post before, its just a team for this gameweek.  No other fixtures are taken into account.    The point of the GW33 picks post is just to help you with any last minute transfer decisions.  If you think that someone has a good chance of points in GW33 over someone else than maybe that will swing the argument.  The teams not meant to be affordable either by the way.  Its the best for GW33 despite cost.    The comments are very brief but there’s more stats and details on players in my “ones to watch” articles

Here’s my FFGeek picks for GW33:

Harper

Hull have had one of the best budget defences this season with only 16 goals conceded at home and 7 clean sheets.  Swansea have only scored 16 goals away and blanked 7 times.  A mirror image almost.  Harper is great value as a GK given the season ending injury to Mc Gregor

De Gea

Given that United have nothing left to play for in the premier league and are still in the game (at least in Moyes mind) against Bayern then any back 4 could be put out.  The safety of De Gea as a GK selection is like an oasis in a desert of uncertainty.  Since losing at Stoke, United have not conceded an away goal in 4 games.  Newcastle have only scored 2 goals in their last 7 home matches and as for their 2 stars, Cabaye is sold and Remy injured

Kaboul

Sunderland really are one of the poorer attacking sides in the league.  They’ve only scored 14 goals in 15 games away.  They’ve blanked 7 times and only scored more than once 3 times.  Last week they played Connor Wickham which says alot.  Spurs have 3 clean sheets in their last 6 home games and despite the defence having injuries and Sherwoods more attacking approach any side facing Sunderland have to fancy themselves for a clean sheet.  With Vertonghen just coming back and not a guaranteed starter and Rose a midfielder in fantasy premier league then Kaboul offers a better attacking option than the only other gametime option of Naughton

Skrtel

Liverpool away from home are still hit and miss.   They got a clean sheet at Old Trafford but conceded 3 at Cardiff.  Skrtel though is the top scoring defender with Coleman and always offers a chance of attacking returns.  West Ham actually don’t have 2 bad a home record attacking wise but Skrtels attacking form and Liverpools ability to turn on a defensive performance when it suits them is enough to give him the vote.

Azpilicueta

Stoke have only scored 15 goals away from home in 16 games.  They’ve blanked 8 times away and only scored more than 1 on 4 occasions.  They are having a little mini run with goals from Crouch and Odemwingie but the Chelsea defence is the best in the league at home and I’m banking on a clean sheet.  Either of the CBs could be rested for Luiz so I’ve gone for the safety of Azpilicueta who should hold his place with Cole only just returning to fitness.

Vlaar

I won’t kid you, Villa really dont have a great home defence.  However Fulham have only scored 12 goals away this season in 16 games.  They’ve blanked 9 times and only scored more than once on 3 occasions.  They also seem to have abandoned Bent and Rodellega and have given 2 young strikers debuts in recent weeks.  Any side has to fancy their chances of a clean sheet against them.  Vlaar is the most certain selection gametime wise and the run away Villa bonus point attraction.

Kompany

Southampton have a reasonable away attack although in 16 games they’ve only scored more than 1 on 4 occasions.  The City defence though is very strong at home.  They’ve only conceded 9 goals in 14 games at home and have 8 clean sheets.  Kompany offers certainty of selection at a similar price to the other defenders with similar gametime security.  He’s also reasonably dangerous at set pieces and capable of scoring.

Hazard

Could in theory be rested given this game is sandwiched between the 2 PSG fixtures.  However, only not started 1 premier league game all season and with Eto’o injured then Mourinho maybe willing to risk it given the lack of faith in Torres scoring.  He’s the 2nd highest % owned midfielder with nearly 40% ownership.  Capable of big scores at anytime.   This is exactly the sort of fixture he can explode.  Stoke have tightened up away from home recently but this is a great fixture for Hazard.

Mata

With Krul and Debuchy injured and Santon maybe having to play at RB then Newcastle are really in a defensive mess.  They’ve conceded 12 goals away in their last 6 home games including 4 against Spurs.  Mata finally scored against Villa although it was his only shot.    Looked far more comfortable playing behind Rooney than out on the left and should get some quality opportunities if given that position again

YYT

With Aguero out tomorrow YYT will keep penalty duties.  He’s been a very consistent performer  and is  also getting pushed up in latter parts of games behind the striker. Southampton have been a bit hit and miss away from home recently defensively conceding 8 goals in their last 6 away games.  Also don’t forget at  46% the highest % owned midfielder.    Will kill your ranking if you don’t own him and he returns by the way.

Gerrard

While West Ham have defensively been sucessful this season they have conceded 3 at home to City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton.  With pen and indirect free kick duties plus an extremely consistent return rate this season he has to have a good chance of featuring in the goals.

Eriksen

Only 1 return in his last 5 games but has looked a constant threat even if being played out of position.  Also has a good share of set pieces.  Sunderland have conceded 9 goals in their last 5 away games.

Dzeko

With Aguero out this week Dzeko is a great pick at home to Southampton.  3 goals and an assist in his last 3 games.  Southampton haven’t been that good defensively conceding 8 goals in their last 6 away games

Rooney

4 goals and an assist in his last 3 away games.  The most advanced forward and also has pen duties.  Also has one of the leagues chief chance creaters behind him in Mata.  Newcastle have conceded 12 goals away in their last 6 home games including 4 against Spurs.

Suarez

60 fantasy premier league points in his last 5 games says it all.   West Ham have conceded 3 at home  to City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton.
