fantasy premier league gameweek 4 – the early bandwagons and sinking ships

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my bandwagons and sinking ships for the early part of  fantasy premier league gameweek 4.  This is the 5 nost transferred in and 5 most transferred out players of the gameweek so far.  Should be of special interest to the many who are using their wildcard over this international break to make as much money as possible for their team

The Bandwagons

This is the 5 most transferred in of the gameweek so far

Diego Costa

The injury sagaof last week and the will he won’t he play soap opera I’m sure got many to sell and this will be the buy back for that.  Even with Remy joining he still is probably the least rotatable player in the attacking squad of Chelsea.  The abundance of attacking midfielders makes them all rotatable but Costa isn’t really.  He’s also looks like he will be a reliable captain option which is good news in these Suarezless days.  His ownership is also 41% which makes him someone who will really hurt your ranking when he scores.  If you don’t have him home to Swansea next is a good time to buy.  Fixtures are a little mixed but Chelsea look like they will score no matter what.

Next 6 fixtures:

Swansea (H)
Man City (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Arsenal (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Man Utd (A)

Naismith

With the move to 3-5-2 and the high ownership of midfield players then everyones looking out for the cheap striker to go with Rooney and Costa.  Naismith, who’s found a place in the Everton side through the long term injury to Barkley has now scored 3 goals in 3 games.  He’s playing in the central position behind Lukaku in the attacking 3.  He’s certainly had a reasonable number of shots and got into the penalty area alot.  However, at the moment he’s gaining points way above his average at an FPL point every 11 minutes.  Last 2 seasons it’s 17 and 18.  It all depends on whether you think he can keep it up and whether there are better alternatives for the budget striker position.  Owned by 1 of the top 10 FPL managers I follow.  2 good fixtures next

West Brom (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)
Man Utd (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Burnley (A)

Sigurdsson

With the 2 home games of Burnley and WBA gone then you’ve probably missed the boat with Siggy a little if you don’t own him.  It’s 1 goal and 4 assists in the first 3 games and a 100% return rate so the start couln’t be better.  He’s also held the central advanced attacking midfield rate and has shown a creative side that wasn’t particulalrly expected.  He’s quite high up in the chances created table thats for sure.  Certainly for the price he’s great value and he has done it before with Swansea.  Now has a 34% ownership so starting to look like someone you would buy defensively anyway.  Away to Chelsea could give you 1 more week breathing space but you will probably pay £0.3m more for him after that game.  After Chelsea the fixtures are ok.  Owned by 8 of the top 10 FPL managers I follow.

Chelsea (A)
Southampton (H)
Sunderland (A)
Newcastle (H)
Stoke (A)
Leicester (H)

Dyer

An incredible start from Dyer with 3 goals and 3 games and a 66% return rate.  As I said for Siggy you can probably defer a purchase 1 week if you’re thinking about it with Chelsea next. You’ll just have to take the value increase on the chin.  Certainly his previous years form is more in the 18 minutes per FPL point rather than the amazing 8 minutes per FPL that it is now.  He’s also scored 3 goals from 3 shots.

Chelsea (A)
Southampton (H)
Sunderland (A)
Newcastle (H)
Stoke (A)
Leicester (H)

Ivanovic

Has been in incredible attacking form with 2 goals and an assist in his first 3 games.  Also has an equally incredible 100% return rate.  No defender has had more shots or shots in the box or penalty box touches than Ivanovic.  He’s also well up there with chances created.  However at £7.1m can attacking returns alone sustain him?  Chelsea certainly haven’t covered themselves in defensive glory with 1 clean sheet from 3.  Mourinho at least recognised the defensive problems as an issue in interviews over the weekend.  To me his values depends on whether Chelsea can return to clean sheets.  Mixed fixtures from a defensive standpoint

Swansea (H)
Man City (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Arsenal (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Man Utd (A)

The Sinking Ships

This is the 5 most transferred out in the gameweek so far

Rooney

After a goal start it’s been 2 games and 2 blanks.  The blanks haven’t been just unlucky loads of chances blanks they’ve been very quiet blanks.  To give you a feeling of the loss of faith he’s been sold in nearly 3 times the numbers of others.  The arrival of Di Maria didn’t change things much positionally.  The weekend was about the Burnley defence sitting deep and crowding the middle.  Rooney is a proven premier league goal scorer and his ownership is 42% even with the huge sales.  Home to QPR next seems a risky time to sell

QPR (H)
Leicester (A)
West Ham (H)
Everton (H)
West Brom (A)
Chelsea (H)

Mata

1 goal and no assists incredibly despite having Rooney and RVP for at least 2 games as targets.  The goal against Sunderland was a bit of a mirage as he really has been quiet in all 3.  He’s not got any shot stats or creating chances stats to hang your hat on.  What he does have is fixtures and he did at least keep his place centrally with Di Maria coming into the side.  Like Rooney home to QPR even with Uniteds home form it is a risky time to sell.  He at least doesn’t have the huge ownership Rooney does though.  You might have to suffer price falls to hold him.

QPR (H)
Leicester (A)
West Ham (H)
Everton (H)
West Brom (A)
Chelsea (H)

Jovetic

The Liverpool game where he scored 2 and the promise of travel shy Stoke saw him a popular choice.  However the City loss and his completely anonymous display means that his place has to be at risk even if you ignore the tough fixtures coming up.  Dzeko was far better when he came on and a far more natural partner for Aguero as he allows Aguero to drift back into the midfield to pick the ball up.  2 very difficult games next.

Arsenal (A)
Chelsea (H)
Hull (A)
Aston Villa (A)
Spurs (H)
West Ham (A)

Giroud

Injured until the new year.  A definite sell

Bojan

On the bench the last 2 away games when Hughes decided his team needed a more physical approach.  However if you still own him then you might be tempted to hold on as the next 3 games couldn’t be much kinder.  Did play reasonable well in the first home game so there are positive signs it just seems the introduction to English football may not see 100% gametime immediately.

Leicester (H)
QPR (A)
Newcastle (H)
Sunderland (A)
Swansea (H)
Southampton (A)
