fantasy premier league gameweek 4 – some early thoughts on the FFGeek team

Fantasy Premier League, ffgeek teams

So it’s going to be a long 2 weeks before fantasy premier league gameweek 4 so I’ll start this article with the FFGeek team performance in GW3 and then some thoughts on gameweek 4 ahead.

FFGeek team performance

GW3 points:  43 (average 43)  Overall Rank:  317k (red arrow 97k)  Team Value: £100.3m no hits taken

Here’s the teams points:

So to only have only 1 attacking player getting a goal or assist is a sign of a bad gameweek and that was the situation here.  When that happens you need some serious defensive points going on and 2 clean sheets out of 4 is ok but not enough to repair the damage.  The only positive is that I didn’t take any hits to get this score and that I have 2 free transfers for GW4.

One thing to remember though is just a few points are alot of overall rank.  There’s only 24 points or so between 300k and 1.3 million for example so it’s important to get your rank now in context.

Thoughts for gameweek 4

So before I get too far I thought it would be worth starting with the fixtures for GW4

GW4 Captain issues

If you come to the site regularly you’ll be bored of me talking about GW4.  It has been on my mind for a while due to the tricky fixtures for all the captain potential teams except Arsenal.  So I rolled over a transfer for GW3 and I now have 2 free transfers to deal with it.  When I did this I thought that would give me a free path to Lacazette or Sanchez as the potential captain options.  However the disastrous performance at Liverpool has changed alot.  Lacazette didn’t even start and Sanchez was pretty ineffective and frustrated on the left.  Sanchez will also probably go into a saga about returning from South America after the break and whether he will start etc.  It seems unlikely that either of these 2 will either be captain favourites or have enough ownership to do any damage.  The reverse is whether either are worth getting in as a gamble to increase my rank.   On that performance is pretty dubious.

So who else could be captain potential?  I don’t think the Man City Liverpool game has it.  Liverpool have shown their ability against the top sides but to rely on someone as your captain in such a tough fixture is tricky.  Who knows what team Pep will even put out let alone putting the captain armband on anyone.  Both these teams are sharing points around between players too.

Spurs away at Everton looks like a tricky fixture and a no no for me at the moment.

I only have Willian from Chelsea at Leicester and he is no captain option and again the fixture isn’t a good one.

So lastly that leaves Lukaku at Stoke.  That’s the main option at the moment although hardly ideal and means that I can use the transfers in team repairs rather than Captain cover.

What needs fixing immediately?

The immediate problems are De Bruyne, Ward Prowse amd Mason of Watford

There’s definitely an issue with De Bruyne’s positioning and the deeper role doesn’t seem to have stopped against the half game against Everton.  It was evident in the Bournemouth match.  He’s just too deep for comfort and although he is creating chances he needs to be doing more further up the field for £9.9m.  Silva is doing more at £8.0m if City cover was needed.

Ward Prowse has lost his place so he’s a problem and has to go

Mason is just a £4.0m defender and I’d like to upgrade him for further flexibility.

What are the problems coming over the hill?

Willian is a potential problem when Hazard’s back.  Hazard still has no return date although bizarrely called up by Belgium over the International break.  So what we make of that who knows.

Davies is also a problem if ever Rose is back.  However the last statement was that it will be a few weeks before Rose is back in training so there’s still a few gameweeks there at least.

Tadic could be an exit in gameweek 6 when Southampton play Man Utd if he doesn’t earn points before then.

There’s also a watchout on Stephens for new CB Wesley Hoedt who was signed recently.  That may have been to allow Van Dijk to go which would at least take him out of the picture.

So alot to think about

what about GW4 transfers?

So at the moment I’m going to see what unfolds in the captain polls to see if a firm favourite emerges.  I’m not going to start the FFGeek poll until next week so the voting information is fairly current.

Also potential injuries over the International break mean it’s wise to hold onto your transfers to the last minute anyway.  So no early transfers that’s for sure.  I’m just going to take any price drops on the chin.  De Bruyne in particular is the main risk.

There’s no thought of a wildcard at the moment.  Things are too changeable and too little data for decisions.

All things elsewhere being equal and with no captain acquisition required, De Bruyne will go and Ward Prowse will go it’s just a matter of who they go for.  I don’t have any particular thoughts on who at the moment it’s too much of a variable situation.

That’s it plenty of posts to come over the International break.  Hope you had a good gameweek.
