fantasy premier league gameweek 4 player picks by Rob Reid (the FPL Vet)

Hi and welcome to my Gameweek 4 Player Picks. For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.

One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.

One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.

One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!

I’ll keep a tally each week of how things are going – I’ll analyse the Banker over 4 GWs, the other 2 will just be on a weekly basis. Wish me luck and here goes!

Gameweek 3 Review

GW1 Banker – Fraser Forster (Southampton)
GW1 – 6 points
GW2 – 3 points
GW3 – 11 points (clean sheet, 2 save points, 3 bonus points) – a strong display from the Saints stopper, a nice surprise picking up full bonus points.

GW2 Banker- Romelu Lukaku (Man U)
GW2 – 6 points (1 goal)
GW3 – 0 points (1 missed penalty) – disappointing Blankaku this week leaving many of us with 0 captain points. Played well for Belgium in the international break though so I’d expect him back on form against Stoke this week.

GW3 Banker – Christian Eriksen
GW3 – 3 points (midfield clean sheet) – subbed before Burnley’s late equaliser, first blank of the season for the Dane. Similar to Lukaku, had a good international window.

Ace – Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 5 points (1 assist, midfield clean sheet, yellow card) – 5 assists in 3 games now makes him the joint highest points scorer in the game after 3 weeks. Price has risen again this week, now £8.3m – get him while he’s hot!

Joker – Richarlison (Watford) – 3 points (midfield clean sheet) – Watford in general suffered following Britos’ red card, their attacking threat waning after this and in the end they hung on for a 0-0. No return for the Brazilian as a result.

Gameweek 4 Picks

Banker – Craig Dawson £5.0 (WBA – bri)

Tony Pulis has marshalled his defence well over the first 3 GWs with only Hegazi’s error costing The Baggies a 3rd consecutive clean sheet in GW3. Fixtures look good coming up, an away trip to Arsenal being the only big team they face in the next 4. It’s Brighton away this week and with the hosts looking very goal-shy so far, I think West Brom defensive cover is a great option at the moment. Dawson still looks the best pick to me, he’s slightly more expensive than Hegazi and Evans, but I think he’s more gametime secure and still offers attacking threat at set pieces.

Ace – Alexandre Lacazatte £10.4m (Arsenal – BOU)

I’m with FFG in that GW4 is a tricky one with regards to picking an obvious high scorer (and therefore captain.) I don’t trust anyone enough outside last years top 6 yet. Of last seasons Top 6, City play Liverpool, Man U away to Stoke doesn’t scream a massive return and Spurs have an awkward trip to Everton. Of the big teams, the Gunners therefore have the standout fixture and despite their poor start to the season, I fancy them to kick-start things against a less than watertight Cherries defence. It was between Lacazette and Sanchez for this pick. Both have issues – Lacazette hasn’t really fired since the 2nd minute of the first game and was left on the bench versus Liverpool. Then there’s the usual post-Chile game time worries regarding Alexis. Tough one, but I’m backing Lacazette here and he may even be worth a cheeky punt with the armband if you have him.

Joker – Eden Hazard £10.5m (Chelsea – lei)

An odd joker pick maybe? High priced and yellow flagged? Think again! The arguments here are: 1.6% ownership, the fact he looked pretty fit playing for Belgium last week and of course some great fantasy football history over previous seasons. Add to this set pieces and penalties and that Chelsea’s opponents this week have already conceded 6 this season( looking weak on set pieces) and I think he’s a great differential pick. If you’re looking for a big money replacement for De Bruyne, or if you’re on your Wildcard, Hazard could be your man. Remember also, with his ownership so low, when he fires his price is going to rise when people start to transfer him in.

That’s it from me on Player Picks this week. Good luck everyone!
