fantasy premier league gameweek 4 review – Saturday and Sundays games

Arsenal 2 Man City 2

  • Debuchy’s ankle sprain could be a bonus for those still holding £4.5m Arsenal cheapie Chambers.  No time frame yet for Debuchy return

Wenger:  “Debuchy has a bad ankle sprain. I don’t know how long he will be out for, but it does not look too good. They [the medical staff] need more time to assess how long he will be out.”

Debuchy:  “I have to pass a medical exam on Monday. No fracture. Hope to be back asap!”

  • Aguero shows how deadly he can be with his goal no matter what the opposition is.  3 goals in 4 games.
  • Welbeck started as the lone striker.  For those peole who believe he just isn’t deadly enough he gave loads of ammunition.  Loads of chances no return.  Great price though and his FPL points per minute is good for last season.

Chelsea 4 Swansea 2

  • Costas importance to the side was emphasised.  Not only with his fantastic hat trick but the fact that he started with an injury concern irrespective of Schalke on Wednesday and Man City in GW5.  If he ever was going to be rested it should have been this week.
  • The Chelsea defence agains failed to justify the minimum £6.5m investment and there could be some major selling this week of Chelsea defenders including myself.  Terry to Chambers could be an option
  • Hazard blanked but it was an excellent performance and he caused havoc
  • Fabregas kept up his 100% return rate with 2 assists to make it 6 assists in 4 games.  Only 1 shot and no shots in the box.  Can he keep it up?  With 43% ownership I decided to take no chances and bought him prior to GW4
  • Siggy created a few chances but blanked and had no shot threat

Palace 0 Burnley 0

  • 2 consecutive clean sheets for Burnley.  Another clean sheet and 2 bonus points for cheapie £4.0m Duff.  In both games they were under the kosh for long periods but it will be interesting to see how their defence continues
  • Puncheon was the attacking star with no return though as well as Arfield despite missing the penalty

Southampton 4 Newcastle 0

  • Pelle with 2 goals and an assist was the star of the show.  The goals were no fluke though as he had great shot stats.
  • Tadic got an assist to make it 2 in 4 games but was fairly quiet considering the score with little shot threat
  • Schneirderlin did it again with his 3rd goal in 4 games.  Could he be the next box to box sensation I ask again?  He did little attacking wise except score though so it’s a leap of faith rather than something backed by shooting and pen box touch stats.  But so was Ramsey and YYT last yaer
  • Another great defensive performance from Saints.  2 home games and 2 deserved clean sheets.  Shame no one under £5.0m after Alderweireld ousted Yoshida as expected
  • The Sunderland/Newcastle defensive rotation took another huge setback as Newcastle were awful defensively

Stoke 0 Leicester 1`

  • Leicester keep a clean sheet and only 7 teams have conceded less goals despite the difficult schedule.  Underlying stats are poor though so continuation is questionable. However at the rotation with Southampton is looking strong.  £4.0m Moore is the cheapie option
  • 3 goals from 4 games for £5.5m Ulloa looks like a great cheapie option.

Sunderland 2 Spurs 2

  • A game dominated by Spurs that they couldn’t kill off
  • Chadli scored and an overall performance which was very good.  3 goals in 4 games with a 50% return rate.
  • Eriksen scores for his first return this season.
  • No return for Lamela, now 2 assists for the season at a 25% return rate

WBA 0 Everton 2

  • Everton finally keep a clean sheet.
  • Mirallas scores in 2 consecutive games.
  • Lukaku scores his first goal

Liverpool 0 Villa 1

  • Villa get their 3rd clean sheet.  Difficult schedule coming up though
  • Worringly little goal threat from Liverpool including Ballotelli.
  • Liverpool have 1 clean sheet and didn’t look defensively secure especially at set pieces

Man Utd 4 QPR 0

  • A good offensive game from Man Utd.  Rooney (2 goals 1 assist in 4 games 50% return rate)  Mata (2 goals in 4 games 50% return rate) and Di Maria (1 goal 1 assist in 2 games 50% return rate) all starred.
  • Falcao off the bench so no resolution to how he will be accomodated.
  • Herrara (£7.3m) played further forward in a box to box role with Blind sitting.  1 goal and 1 assist.  Still seems quite expensive at the moment
  • Another clean sheet making it 2 in 4 games.  Opponents have been kind but United have excellent defensive underlying stats.
