fantasy premier league gameweek 5 – cheap forwards “ones to watch”

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

wickham

The 3-5-2 formation  or playing 1 cheaper striker in 3-4-3 is becoming more common as  FPL managers transfer in the expensive midfield options. So here’s an updated “ones to watch” article for cheap forwards.   The idea being that the cheap striker either plays in a 3-4-3 or is rotated home and away with a budget midfielder or lastly is the benchwarmer for unexpected injuries.   I’ve given a similar table of stats that goes with the premium forwards to assist you in making a decision.  Ive also offered some rotation options in the narrative

Naismith

3 goals in his first 4 games and a 75% return rate.  If he hadn’t missed a sitter against WBA in GW4 then it would be 4 in 4 and 100%. It’s no fluke either as his shooting and creating chances stats have been good.  Currently playing behind Lukaku as the central attacking midfielder in 4-2-3-1.  2 hard fixtures after Palace at home away to Liverpool and Man Utd.  In too good a form to rotate.

Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)
Man Utd (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Burnley (A)
Swansea (H)

Ulloa

3 goals in 4 games for the former Brighton Argentinian.  An unbelieveable start considering the opposition.  After Man Utd this week the fixtures get far easier.  The question is whether he can keep up a phenomenal  conversion rate.  Would rotate well with a Southampton midfielder such as £5.7m Schneiderlin or £5.0m Davis

Man Utd (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Burnley (H)
Newcastle (A)
Swansea (A)
West Brom (H)

Austin

Can score goals after getting 17 goals and 3 assists in 31 games in the Championship.  However the translation of the Championship to the premier league is not guaranteed thats for sure. He has made an ok start with 1 goal in his first 3.  Mixed fixtures and probably too expensive to rotate

Stoke (H)
Southampton (A)
West Ham (A)
Liverpool (H)
Aston Villa (H)
Chelsea (A)

Long

Never been the most prolific of forwards in FPL and at the moment not getting the 90 minutes.  However it is a cheaper way of getting exposure to Southamptons good fixtures.  Again a little expensive to justify rotation

Swansea (A)
QPR (H)
Spurs (A)
Sunderland (H)
Stoke (H)
Hull (A)

Jelavic

A certain starter and has started well with 2 goals in 4 games.  Difficult fixtures and a low conversion rate are the negatives.  Is getting a lot of chances it’s just the eternal question of whether he can finish them off.

Newcastle (A)
Man City (H)
Crystal Palace (H)
Arsenal (A)
Liverpool (A)
Southampton (H)

Wickham

Finished the season off in some style last year and has good fixtures coming up.  Moved to the central striking position after playing on the flank in the opening games.  It’s just whether he holds that position is the only risk.  Fletcher has started poorly so it’s possible.  Too expensive to justify rotation

Burnley (A)
Swansea (H)
Stoke (H)
Southampton (A)
Arsenal (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

Berahino

Neither he or WBA itself has scored since his 2 goals in the opening fixture against Sunderland.  The fixtures are mixed at best.  However in terms of shots in the box and chances created he’s up there with the best strikers. That guarantees nothing but it does give some hope that things will improve.  A big leap of faith though is required.  Would rotate with an Aston Villa midfielder such as £5.3m Cleverley or £5.0m Richardson

Spurs (A)
Burnley (H)
Liverpool (A)
Man Utd (H)
Crystal Palace (H)
Leicester (A)

Gayle

Another player who finished last year strongly and with Warnock now in charge seems to be the first choice striker.  Tricky fixture next but the only one after that is Chelsea.  Would rotate with QPR midfielders £5.5m Fer or  £5.0m Krancjar

Everton (A)
Leicester (H)
Hull (A)
Chelsea (H)
West Brom (A)
Sunderland (H)
