fantasy premier league gameweek 5 – the early bandwagons and sinking ships

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league gameweek 5 bandwagons and sinking ships article where we look at the 5 most transferred in and out players so far in the gameweek.  You may want to at least wait until the transfer window closes on September 1st before making those transfers though.  Thats obviously unless you’re on a wildcard.

The Bandwagons

These are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek

Callum Wilson

The £5.7m Bournemouth forward added a spectacular overhead goal against Leicester at the weekend to his hat trick the week before against West Ham.  Its now 4 goals in 4 games and a consistency rate (the % of games that he has acheived a goal or assist) of 50%.  Add that to his excellent year last season in the Championship where he scored 20 goals and 7 assists in 45 games.   The fixtures coming up are good thats for sure.  The only shadow is the lack of underlying shooting and creating chances stats to back this up.  Don’t get me wrong you can be successful in the long term without them as Harry Kane  demonstrated last season but it’s more likely you’re successful with them than without.  Could have pens.

Andre Ayew

The £7.1m Swansea midfielder got a goal and an assist plus the maximum bonus in the 13 point FPL haul in the 2-1 win over Man Utd.  It’s a very impressive start with 3 goals and 1 assist in his first 4 games which gives him a 75% consistency rate.  Thats on the back of a pretty good record at Marseille last season of 10 goals and 6 assists in 28 games last season.  Very good underlying shooting stats are there to back up his good start.  Good fixtures coming up as well.

Aston Villa (A)

Gomis

The £7.3m Swansea forward scored the winner against Man Utd to make it 4 goals in 4 games and a 100% consistency rate.  Good shooting stats and good fixtures to come make him an attractive signing at the moment.  Has pens as a bonus.

Pedro

The former Barca player and now £9.5m Chelsea midfielder kept his 100% consistency rate with an assist in the loss to Crystal Palace with his cross for Falcao.  Its now 1 goal and 2 assists in the 2 games since joining.  Last season with Barca he got a goal or an assist every 129 minutes in a bench ridden season.  Thats very good but hard to compare to the premier league.  What is clear though is that his underlying shooting and creating chances stats are excellent and overall probably the best of any midfielder in the premier league.  Fixtures are mixed at best:

Newcastle (A)
Southampton (H)
Aston Villa (H)
West Ham (A)

Kolarov

After being a bit of a defensive disaster area last season Man City now lead the league in clean sheets and the £5.8m defender is one of the beneficiaries.  All of the Man City defence will be rotated during the season so there’s no obvious gametime secure player unless you go for GK Hart.  The short term prospects of Kolarov though are helped by the injury to Clichy for 6-7 weeks.  Attacking wise only Cedric of Southampton has better underlying creating chances stats.

The Sinking Ships

These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek

Coutinho

Sent off against West Ham and will miss the Man Utd away game in GW5 as a result. 1 goal in his first 4 games and a resultant 25% consistency rate.  Pretty good underlying shooting stats too.  My question against selling him is the home games of Norwich and Villa after that game?

Aston Villa (H)

Hazard

The £11.4m Chelsea midfielder was deservedly player of the season last year and for midfielders was pretty much up there in all categories of consistency, returns and the most explosive.  However this season it’s all gone horribly wrong with only 1 assist in his first 4 games.  Whats more although his creating chances stats could be worse his shooting stats have fallen off a cliff.  To put it into context CDM Victor Wanyama has better shooting stats.  This is all about whether you believe the current position is temporary or permanent.  However you may have to ride out a few price falls in doing so.  The fixtures are a bit mixed and don’t really help either and neither does a natural cheaper replacement of Pedro. Does have pens.

Benteke

A blank in a pretty shambolic performance from Liverpool in the 3-0 home loss to West Ham can’t have helped the situation for the £8.5m Liverpool forward.  Man Utd next either gives little incentive to hold.  Very poor shooting stats so far also doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.  It’s just whether you can ride it out for the GW6 and GW7 home games against Norwich and Villa respectively which are attractive

Man Utd (A)
Norwich (H)
Aston Villa (H)
Everton (A)
Spurs (A)
Southampton (H)

Kane

No returns at all so far for the £9.4m Spurs forward hardly inspires a reason to hold.  Personally I think he’s been a little unlucky in the games I’ve seen him and interestingly his underlying shooting and creating chances stats could be worse which gives some hope. Fixtures are a bit mixed to say the least.

Ivanovic

The £6.8m Chelsea RB is probably the most extreme example of Chelsea’s fall from grace giving a series of diabolical performances with rumours he may even be dropped and Azpilicueta moving to RB since LB Baba Rahman has joined.  He’s probably been unlucky to have to meet Montero, Sterling and Bolasie in the first 3 games though.  However at £6.8m you have to do better than no clean sheets in the first 4 games.  Incredibly only Sunderland have conceded more goals and in terms of underlying defensive stats arguably on Palace and Sunderland have stats that are worse.  To make matters worse there’s been no attacking returns and his underlying attacking stats have fallen off a cliff.  Again it’s a question over whether this is temporary as Chelsea were undoubtedly the best defensive team last season and arguably Ivanovic one of the best attacking defenders.  Or is it a permanent shift.  As I said above with Hazard the fixtures could be more helpful.
