So I feel a bit robbed to be honest.  6 of the 11 players return a goal or assist, 2 of those in double figures and I’m -81k OR worse off.  I guess that’s inevitable after an 8 point hit in a big scoring gameweek but it still feels a little rough.

The 8 point hit did pay off though.  Aguero got 11 points vs Firmino who got 2 and De Bruyne who got 3 and posted some really horrible expected goal and assist stats.  Salah got 7 vs Tadic’s 2.  Loftus Cheek who was on the bench anyway but put in an impressive performance vs Man City as a CAM.  Things would have looked a lot better but for Mendy’s early injury v Palace.

On other players, while Mee got a clean sheet he’s yet to get a bonus point for 2 clean sheets which is disappointing.

Bailly has made not getting bonus points an art form.   5 clean sheets and the only bonus point received is v Swansea when he scored and that combination is virtually impossible not to get 3 bonus points.

I had to check after the highlights of the Burnley game that Brady did indeed play as he was that non existent.  Choupo Moting didn’t exactly cover himself in glory either but a 0-4 loss to Chelsea is a forgivable context.

I was disappointed in Spurs inability to Mourinho out a 2-0 lead and you can’t be anything but disappointed when Elliot doesn’t get a clean sheet against a team as insipid as Brighton.

I guess I’m reasonably happy with the rank at the moment compared to where I see others.  Especially when I still lead the points in the top 10 FPL managers article.  However it’s hard to be happy when 4 of the 5 arrows you’ve seen have been red. Anyway on to next week

Likely transfers

It’s always a tough week when the 2 Burnley lads have a tough away game although whether Everton constitutes that at the moment is arguable.  However the lineup below before any transfers isn’t an easy one.

Good fixtures for Foster, Davies, Bailly, Salah, Kane and Lukaku.  Tricky ones for Mendy, Aguero, Brady, Mee and Choupo Moting.  So the gameweek has some potential issues thats for sure

Transfer plans

I’m hoping to hold my transfer this week and hope that Mendy is fit.  He was going to be assessed for the UCL game although didn’t make the bench which is hopeful although I continue to get annoyed at the rubbish managers feed the public about injuries so I’m not sure why I’m taking anything at face value.  I’ll leave it until later in the week but I am a believer in the City defence and any transfer, if necessary, of Mendy will be like for like.  I could even hold my transfer if the news is positive.

Other than that I’m definitely holding my transfer subject to further injuries.  2 gives much more flexibilty.  I’m tempted to run permanently with 2 transfers until I wildcard as it would have avoided the 8 this week and gives you so much more flexibility.

Other problems coming over the hill

Mason desperately needs upgrading for weeks such as these when the Burnley defence doesn’t look great.

Brady should be replaced as well although the even numbered gameweeks continue to provide good fixtures with West Ham, Newcastle and Swansea for 8,10 and 12 respectively.  That may urge me to keep Mee even though Burnley aren’t pulling up trees defensively in the underlying stats department.

Choupo Moting is worth a run as his stats are so good.

The issue will always be do you keep your premium players and look to find good fixtures for the cheaper players or vice versa.  Most managers seem to be in camp 1 but I’m not so sure.  When you’ve got Kane, Aguero, Lukaku and Salah plus Utd, City and Spurs in defence do you need to flit around to Arsenal and Chelsea and back again.  I’m not so sure.  However you do need to find good fixtures for your cheaper players if you’re ever going to get returns from them.

Captain choice

I really like 3 captain options each week.  Lukaku looks the best here although the travelling to Russia isn’t helpful and unless there some speculation about resting him then I can’t see anyone else being picked.

BTW Have I mentioned how much I like slow price changes?

You may have read an earlier article about how I like the slow pace of price change.  Well this week I really enjoyed it.  In no other year could I have waited until Friday to do Firmino and De Bruyne out and Aguero and Salah in with barely £0.1m spare on Monday.  I’d like to moan about the procrastination and angst it caused me but actually the thinking time just solidified what I was going to do and by Friday night I was certain of my transfers. Long may it continue.  In fact the prices can stay the same all season as far as I’m concerned.

That’s it.  I’ll do another article when my team is settled which should be Friday assuming nothing changes
