fantasy premier league gameweek 8 – the early bandwagons and sinking ships

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league gameweek 8 early  bandwagons and sinking ships.  That’s the 5 most transferred in and the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek.  Remember it’s an international break and nearly 2 weeks before GW8 so early transfers will incur more than usual injury risk.

The Bandwagons

That is the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek in that order.

Di Maria

A great goal and a rather fortuitous assist for Falcao against Everton continued his great start in the premier league for Man Utd.  It’s now 3 goals and 3 assists in 5 games since he joined Man Utd.  We all knew he would get assists from his record in La Liga but the 3 goals in 5 games have been a pleasant surprise.  Despite 1 goal being rather lucky his shot stats give some backing to the record.  He’s also doing ok in pen box touches and his average position is regularly high as the forwards which is negating his supposed deep starting position.  At 36% ownership and rising he’s now becoming a dangerous player not to own.  The only positive if you dont want to buy is that the fixtures generally aren’t easy with Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal are in the next 6

Next 6 fixtures:

West Brom (A)
Chelsea (H)
Man City (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Arsenal (A)
Hull (H)

Bertrand

A goal and an assist plus 3 clean sheets in the first 6 have been the reasons behind the Southampton LBs popularity.  He’s also been popular as a slightly cheaper alternative to  Clyne.  Southampton also probably have overall the best defensive stats as I showed in my earlier “ones to watch” article.  2 good home games next and decent fixtures overall also help the reasoning behind purchasing. Should have had another assist against Spurs but for Mane’s unbelieveable miss against Spurs.

Sunderland (H)
Stoke (H)
Hull (A)
Leicester (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Man City (H)

Siggy

The Swansea CAM returned from his 3 game blank to 2 assists and 2 bonus points against Newcastle.  He’s become less of a goal scoring CAM to a creative one which is a bit of a surprise.  He doesn’t really have that great underlying shooting or creating chances stats but his 44% ownership makes him a dangerous player not to own.  After the next 2 games there are 3 tricky games which if for some reason you’re thinking of doing it is probably the time to do so.

Stoke (A)
Leicester (H)
Everton (A)
Arsenal (H)
Man City (A)
Crystal Palace (H)

Welbeck

After his hat trick in the Champions League it was a quiet game against Chelsea where he didn’t have a shot.  He was lucky to be on the pitch after a bad tackle.  It’s only a goal and an assist in 4 games since joining Arsenal which is nothing special but his value at £7.2m for a nailed on Arsenal forward and his Champions League exploits are the reasons behind his purchase.  The fixtures are now looking good as well

Hull (H)
Sunderland (A)
Burnley (H)
Swansea (A)
Man Utd (H)
West Brom (A)

Chadli

An assist against Southampton make it 4 goals and an assist in his first 7.  He’s playing an increasingly forward role and is excellent on the break.  It’s no flash in the pan as well as he has very good shooting stats.  Man City away is probably not the best time to buy though

Man City (A)
Newcastle (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Stoke (H)
Hull (A)
Everton (H)

The Sinking Ships

The 5 most transferred out players in the gameweek so far in order

Ramsey

Out for 4 weeks according to Wenger.  That would have him back for gameweek 10.  Alot of money to hold for that time for a guy who’s form had skowed down a little and who has a questionable record in returning from injury when expected

Hull (H)
Sunderland (A)
Burnley (H)
Swansea (A)
Man Utd (H)
West Brom (A)

Rooney

2 games to go in his 3 game suspension and no Capital One Cup to shorten it.  Had moved back behind the 2 strikers  which could blunt his returns anyway and the cash involved plus the alternatives make him a natural sale.

West Brom (A)
Chelsea (H)
Man City (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Arsenal (A)
Hull (H)

Ulloa

The 2nd consecutive quiet game for Ulloa.  He didn’t have a shot and only had 1 pen box touch.  Against Burnley that isn’t great.  Has reasonable shooting stats overall since the start of the season.  However it’s now 2 quiet games against Palace and Burnley and when there’s a number of alternatives at the moment sales aren’t surprising.  2 away games although the fixtures are good.

Newcastle (A)
Swansea (A)
West Brom (H)
Southampton (A)
Sunderland (H)
QPR (A)

Dier

Seemingly lost his place to cheapie Spurs RB Naughton he ironically came on as a sub after Naughton had to go off with an ankle injury.  There’s no return date at the moment for Naughton but the position should be clearer in a couple of days.  So Dier at least has the chance to stake his claim at RB over the injury period.  At £5.5m he’s expensive for that risk with Rose and Kaboul and others at £5.0m.  Away at Man City is a good time to sell a defender though

Man City (A)
Newcastle (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Stoke (H)
Hull (A)
Everton (H)

Balotelli

Was a sub for Liverpool at the weekend.  With Sturridge coming back his place could be in doubt especially if Rodgers only plays with 1 striker which is a possibility. Has yet to score in 5 games although 2 assists in that time.  Has reasonable shooting stats but really doesn’t provide the movement and energy that Rodgers demands from his forwards.  If you’re planning on gambling and holding the fixtures are good

QPR (A)
Hull (H)
Newcastle (A)
Chelsea (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Stoke (H)
