fantasy premier league GW1 player picks by Rob Reid
Hi everyone and welcome to the 1st edition of Player Picks for the 2018-19 season.
You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines.
The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.
I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week, I won’t be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks this week like I did last season though I may select them in consecutive weeks. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!
Here goes – wish me luck!
Gameweek 1 Picks
Banker – Sergio Aguero Man City £11.0m – ars
If you’re looking to get off to a solid start, I don’t think you can go far wrong with having Sergio Aguero in your side. He’s a tried and tested FPL superstar and his 2 goals in the Community Shield last weekend served notice that he’s got his eye in for 2018-19. It’s a testing trip to The Emirates for GW1 for Kun, but he can score against anyone and the fixtures are set very fair for the Champions after this – ignore at your peril!
Ace – Mo Salah – Liverpool £13.0m – WHA
It seems only fitting that we should start this season with last season’s top points scorer as the Ace pick. He’ll be looking to hit the ground running and a home fixture against a Hammers side under new management looks a good place to start. Heavily owned at over 50%, it would be a risky move not to hand the Egyptian star the armband this week.
Joker – Diogo Jota – Wolves £6.5m – EVE
Jota is a newcomer to the EPL, but was a huge asset to Wolves last season scoring 17 times and making 5 assists in their Championship winning campaign. Listed as a midfielder, he effectively plays as an auxiliary attacker and he’ll fancy his chances against an Everton defence that has flattered to deceive in pre-season.

That’s all from me this week folks and good luck!
