FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW1 – PRE-SEASON CATCH UP AND POTENTIAL GW1 LINEUPS PART 1
In this article we’ll look at the main issues for each team in the pre-season as well as the form players and then give the potential GW1 line up on the information so far.
We’ll start by identifying the major injuries, then the lineup issues including where were looking for value. Then we’ll identify the form players of pre-season
Arsenal
Ozil, Ramsey and Sanchez all look doubtful starters for GW1 without any being particularly serious. Koscielny is suspended for 2 games.
The Arsenal lineup in itself is straightforward if everyone is available but participation in the off season competitions and injuries has clouded that. Sanchez, Mustafi, participated in the Confed Cup and have to be considered a doubt as a result. When everyone is fit and available the back 3 should be Monreal, Koscielny and Mustafi but that’s a few games away. Holding has the talent to hold his place but it’s a big ask.
Ramsey, Iwobi and Monreal are the form players
Potential GW1 lineup on current information
Bournemouth
CB Cook is a slight doubt for GW1. Stanislas has no return date.
The man who think’s he’s Pep hasn’t given us much to work with in pre-season in terms of pattern. He’s helpfully even managed to cloud the GK selection. The flanks are also a big question. I would think £5.5m mid Fraser should take the RW but who really knows. The left flank is even more of a mystery all of which is strange given his poor transfer activity.
Afobe has been in good form but I can’t see him starting
Brighton
Hughton’s words on £6.0m Knockaert make it seem unlikely he’ll start. I can’t see new CM Propper starting so close after signing but imagine he’ll take over the Kayal spot when ready.
Dunk is the obvious £4.5m defender and should start. The same should be said £4.5m Suttner at LB and he has good attacking potential. The striker position looks confused with Murray not playing the last game and having too many sub appearances for confidence. Huenemeier, Rosenior and Goldson are the £4.0m defs. None look likely to start. Rosenior the closest for me
Burnley
Mee looks the most solid £4.5m defensive option. £4.0m Long looks unlikely to start. You’d think Vokes would be certain to start but there’s been alot of rotation in pre-season.
Gray has been in good form although his place is by no means certain. £5.5m mid Brady has also been in good form and has some set piece duties.
Chelsea
Hazard is out until GW5. Bakayoko until GW2 which makes Fabregas a gamble for anything past GW1. Moses is suspended for GW1. Pedro isn’t despite the Comm Shield.
I suspect Batshuyai after an excellent pre-season will start at CF but its not certain and how much longevity it has remains to be seen. £7.0m mid Willian has also been in good form.
C Palace
Cabaye is out with no return date
We were hoping for a £4.5m defender but that now looks very unlikely. £4.5m mid Loftus Cheek may struggle to hold his place when Cabaye returns. Townsend had promise as a cheap Mid but is now an RWB and therefore redundant. Lokilo isn’t on FPL as yet.
Everton
Barkley is out until GW3 and likely to move
You’d think the Europa League would make it easier until Koeman changed formations for the 2nd leg. I’m assuming he will play 4 at the back for this which can’t be guaranteed.
Holgate or Martina are the prize £4.5m defenders although early fixtures according to my fixture ease article give them the hardest start of anyone. I can see Holgate starting in a back 4 but not a back 3.
Rooney has been in good pre-season form
Huddersfield
See Matthew Browns analysis of Huddersfield article
£6.0m midfielder Ince seems the logical target here. He’s done himself no harm with 4 goals in preseason games. New striker Mounie has also scored 4 goals. They have been the form players of pre-saeson. The defence has a number of £4.5m players. Schindler is probably the safest. £4.5m LB Lowe who could have some set piece or even penalty responsibilities. He seems safe but new signing Malone is a very able replacement. None of the £4.0m defs look likely to paly. Mooy got 60 minutes in the last pre-season game so difficult to think he wont start.
Leicester
Huth (GW4) and Drinkwater (GW2) wont start for GW1.
£4.5m Simpson at RB looks like he will start at least until Huth is back and the question of Maguire as an RB is raised. Hard to see £5.5m Albrighton not starting although Gray could cause an issue at some stage. How £7.0m forward Iheanacho fits in is the question as he’s not the scrapper that Okazaki is
Liverpool
Clyne is out until at least GW2.
£4.5m def Trent Alexander Arnold looks like he will start in his place and it’s not out of the question that he could hold his place. At LB £4.5m Moreno has some chance of starting but so does £5.0m Robertson. I personally can’t see Milner starting.
It seems certain that Coutinho will play the withdrawn role in a 4-3-3 but that hasn’t blunted his output previously. The Barca stuff is the distraction
Salah, Coutinho and Firmino have been providing the goals and assists. Mane hasn’t had much gametime but looked lively even on the left
