fantasy premier league GW10 match analysis – part 3

Gameweek analysis

Here’s the fantasy premier league match analysis for Saturday gameweek 10  – part 3.  The games are West Ham v Villa, WBA v Crystal Palace, Stoke v Southampton and Hull v Sunderland

West Ham 0 Aston Villa 0

WEST HAM: Jaaskelainen 6, Demel 5, Rat 5 (Diame 90’), Tomkins 6, Reid 6, Downing 5, Noble 8, Collison 5 (C. Cole 63’ 5), Morrison 5, Jarvis 5 (J. Cole 63’ 7), Nolan 6
Subs not used: Adrian, O’Brien, Potts, Maiga
Booked: Lowton

ASTON VILLA: Guzan 6, Lowton 6, Vlaar 6, Baker 6, Clark 6, Bacuna 5, Sylla 5, Westwood 6, El Ahmadi 5, Weimann 5 (Kozak 57’ ), Benteke 5
Subs: Steer, Helenius, Herd, Bowery, Tonev, Johnson

Lineups: West Ham lined up in their now well self publicised 10-0-0   formation, sorry, I mean 4-6-o formation with Nolan as the false 9 (I still can’t believe I’m writing this) Diame dropped to the bench and Collison came into the midfield 3 and Jarvis and flanked Nolan.

Villa played 3-5-2- or 4-4-2 depending on whether you believed Bacuna was an LB or LM (assuming he knew).  Sylla came into the team.

Defences

The 2nd game that West Ham had the better of the opposition but couldn’t score.  Very good stats from West Ham.  Pretty poor ones from Villa.

Nolan

Had the best shooting , creating chances and pen box touches stats of any player on the field.  The sort of game at home against the more defensively challenged teams that you expect him to score against.  Had enough chances to.

Benteke

Had a relatively quiet game with just a couple of chances to score which was testament to the West Ham defence with him showing little in the way of underlying stats

Joe Cole

Came on with purpose and was impressive in his 30 odd minutes.  Hard to see him getting much gametime especially when Carroll is back

WBA 2 Crystal Palace 0

WEST BROM (4-2-3-1): Myhill 7; Jones 6 (Berahino, 31 mins, 8), McAuley 7, Olsson 7, Ridgewell 7; Mulumbu 7, Morrison 6 (Yacob, 73 mins, 6); Amalfitano 6, Sessegnon 7 (Vydra, 8), Brunt 6; Long 6.
Subs not used: Daniels, Popov, Rosenberg, Lugano.
Goals: Berahino 44, McAuley 83  Assists:  Sessegnon Brunt

CRYSTAL PALACE (4-4-1-1): Speroni 7; Ward 5, Gabbidon 6, Delaney 6, Moxey 7; Bannan 5 (Bolasie, 65 mins, 6), Dikgacoi 6 (Gayle, 68 mins, 5), Jedinak 7, Thomas 7; Guedioura 6 (Puncheon, 22 mins, 7), Chamakh 5.
Subs not used: Price, Mariappa, Phillips, O’Keefe.
Booked: Thomas

Lineups:  Yacob was on the bench with Morrison taking his place.  Amalfitano was fit and Brunt came into the side.  With Anichebe and Anleka having  injury doubts Long lead the line.

The back line was the same for Palace.  Dikgacoi and Jedinak were the CDMs.  Bannan and Thomas were the flank players and Guerdiora supported Chamakh.

Player comments

Defences:  Interestingly Palace had the better defensive stats.  Considering the opposition WBAs  weren’t great but a CS is a CS.

Amalfitano

The popular cheapie was fit but disappointed in a game where he had little threat.  Its now no returns in his last 3

Sessegnon
Finally got a return with an assist after 4 consecutive blanks.  No shooting stats at all but the  creating stats and very good pen box touches make him an interesting punt over the reasonable WBA fixtures to come

Puncheon

Came on after 20 or so minutes and had good stats and threat when that happened.  However can’t ignore the gametime issues and the fact that its 1 assist in 7 games this year so far.

 Bolasie

Made an impression with 40 minutes to go with good shooting stats but no returns.  Played some part in the last 4 games but its still no returns in 172 minutes so hard to consider at the moment

Stoke 1 Southampton 1

STOKE CITY: Begovic, Cameron, Shawcross, Huth, Pieters, Whelan (Palacios 46), Nzonzi, Walters, Ireland (Assaidi 65), Arnautovic, Crouch.
Subs not used: Jones, Adam, Etherington, Sorensen, Wilson.
Booked: Walters, Huth, Cameron.
Goals: Begovic 1.

SOUTHAMPTON: Boruc, Clyne, Fonte, Lovren, Shaw, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Ward-Prowse, Rodriguez (Ramirez 69), Lallana, Lambert.
Subs Not Used: Kelvin Davis, Steven Davis, Cork, Lee, Chambers, Hooiveld.
Booked: Lovren.

Line ups:  Only surprise was Whelan coming in for Palacios.  For Saints, JWP held his place over Steven Davis was the only surprise.

Defences

Both defences performed well in a tight game.

Arnautovic

Not really sure on the guy who has no shooting stats but it was a blank for the Austrian albeit with some comfort that there was good shooting stats.

JWP

An assist for the specialist free kick taker who’s delivery means that you can effectively forget the need for underlying stats.

lallana

Got into the penalty area well but really no attacking output again for the 2nd week in a row and I did warn you he is frustrating

Lambert

It was back to earth with his goal and assist as he did absolutely nothing in this game.  3 goals and 1 assist in 10 isn’t great but not the end  although the current alternatives and trickier fixtures means he wont get a look in to any fantasy premier league teams

Hull 1 Sunderland 0

HULL CITY: Harper, Rosenior (Proschwitz 70), Figueroa, Davies, McShane, Huddlestone, Livermore, Elmohamady, Boyd (brady 76), Aluko, Meyler (Koren 57).
Subs not used: Jakupovic, Gedo, Koren, Faye, Quinn.
Booked: Brady, Figueroa.
Goals: Cuellar (og) 25.

SUNDERLAND: Westwood (Mannone 43), Bardsley, O’Shea, Cuellar, Dossena, Cattermole, Colback, Larsson, Borini (Brown 45), Altidore (Johnson 45), Fletcher.
Subs not used: Ki, Gardner, Celustka, Giaccherini.
Sent off: Dossena, Cattermole.

Line ups:  McShane came into the defence instead of Faye as expected. Boyd started on the left flank and Meyler in the right mid position in what appeared to be a 4-3-3.

For Sunderland Borini came into what looked like a 3 man attack with Fletcher and Altidore.

Defences

Excellent Hull defence.  Sunderland not as convincing stats.  The sending offs distorted the stats though

Sagbo

Got the assist for the OG  winner but a relatively quiet game.  Started the last 3 and its 1 goal and 1 assist in that spell.  But lets be serious, there are far too many options to go for a cheapie forward

Brady

Only 17 minutes and I can feel everyones frustration given the fixture and especially if you waited for his injury to heal.

Fletcher

The supposed relegation saver had a quiet day.  Its 2 goals in his last 6 starts and its the same comments as for Sagbo except not quite as extreme.
