fantasy premier league GW10 player picks by Rob Reid (the FPL Vet)

Hi and welcome to my fantasy premier league GW10 player picks. For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.

Player Categories

One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.

One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.

One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!

I’ll keep a tally each week of how things are going – I’ll analyse the Banker over 4 GWs, the other 2 will just be on a weekly basis. Wish me luck and here goes!

Gameweek 9 Review

GW6 Banker – Sead Kolasinac

GW6 – 6 points (1 clean sheet)
GW7 – 6 points (1 clean sheet)
GW8 – 1 point (1 goal conceded)
GW9 – 1 point (1 goal conceded) – a disappointing defensive display again from the Gunners to finish his banker stint. Swansea at home next, so I’d still hold if you’re unsure what to do with him.

GW7 Banker – Sergio Aguero

GW7 – injured
GW8 – 0 points (didn’t play)
GW9 – 7 points (1 goal, 1 bonus point) – Pep’s rotation bingo gave the now fit Kun 75 minutes and he bagged a penalty as well as missing a couple of other good chances. Played 120 minutes in the Carabao Cup in midweek so whether he starts this weekend is anyone’s guess.

GW8 Banker – David Silva

GW8 – 7 points (1 goal)
GW9 – 3 points (midfield clean sheet) – another 90 minutes for the Spaniard but no returns this week. His place looks secure as he was rested in midweek, if this means anything!

GW9 Banker – Rob Elliot

GW9 – 7 points (clean sheet, 1 bonus point) – a nice return as Benitez showed his strength in defensive organisation at home. Interestingly burgled a bonus point without making a save, which I suspect must have been down to a good pass completion rate when compared with his defensive colleagues. Burnley away next.

Ace Raheem Sterling

0 points (didn’t play) – benched for the Stoke game, with Sane and Aguero stealing the FPL headlines. Played 120 minutes in the Carabao Cup along with Aguero so his game-time has to be a concern this week. The only crumb of comfort was that he didn’t produce a 1 point cameo like Jesus, so managers who had given Sterling the armband had the safety net of their Vice; some of whom were fortunate enough to pick Harry Kane!

Joker Tammy Abraham

2 points – a home blank as the Swans were turned over by manager-less Leicester City. Arsenal away next, but after that Chelsea are the only one of last season’s top 6 that Swansea face until GW17 so he looks a good player to hold.

Gameweek 10 Picks

Banker – Mohamed Salah £9.1 (LIV) – HUD

I’m a bit confused by his price drop this week. I know Liverpool were thumped last Sunday, but Salah was the shining light in red and took his goal superbly. His xG stats are consistently good and his pace is just frightening – he gave one of the best defences in the league some real problems despite ending up on the wrong end of a 4-1 socreline. Liverpool’s fixtures are brilliant now as well, they only face 2 of last seasons top 6 in the next 13 Gameweeks. I’d say it’s a great time to invest in someone who is close to becoming a core FPL player. He plays Huddersfield at home this week and although the visitors will be flying high after beating United last weekend, I can’t see them getting a surprise result for a second week in a row.

Ace – Richarlison £6.3m (WAT) – STO

The Brazilian has proved a fine acquisition for Watford this season as well as a breakout asset for FPL managers. It’s 3 goals and 4 assists so far and this guy certainly knows how to get into good positions. The only slight flaw is that his finishing could be better – he missed 2 great chances against Chelsea last week that would have essentially put the game to bed. He has great statistics for shots in the box, but his conversion rate is low compared to some of his counterparts and this is probably why he’s only picked up 4 bonus points so far. He has 4 great fixtures coming up though, before The Hornets face Man United in GW14 – it’s a great time to buy and I reckon he’ll do the business this week against a struggling Stoke defence.

Joker – Pascal Groß £5.8m (BRI) – SOU

If anyone is going to make this Sunday’s opening game a bit more interesting it has to be the German, right? It does have 0-0 written all over it, so let’s put some positivity into this fixture! I actually like the look of Brighton to be fair – Chris Hughton is doing a great job. And if the home side create anything it will surely come through the impressive Groß, who has scored or assisted 6 of his teams 8 goals so far this season. (Or you could be really boring and just put a Brighton defender in and back the 0-0…!!!)

That’s it from me on Player Picks – best of luck this week everyone
