Aguero

Has returned quickly from the rib injury sustained in his midweek jaunt to Amsterdam a few weeks ago.  Scored the penalty in the win over Burnley last weekend taking it to 7 goals and 3 assists in 7 starts and 1 sub appearance.  Anyone with a mins per FPL point of under 10 is going some that’s for sure.  That means on each 90 minutes played you’re likely to get 10 FPL points.

His underlying stats are fantastic and the best of any forward.  Not only are they great from a shooting perspective but he’s also creating chances at a high level as well.

On current form the only inhibitor is gametime.  It’s impossible to predict what Pep will do but if I speculate for a minute I can’t see why he would revert to 2 strikers when he’s only got 2 out and out strikers and the lone striker system has been so successful.  However who would have forseen his team sheet on the weekend?    After I  wrote this I now see that both Aguero and Jesus have started in the EFL cup.  I will never try and guess Pep again

I think you either try the futile game of trying to second guess Pep week to week or go for who you think is the best and stick with it.  BTW should have penalty duties.

Sane

The young German is producing stats on a per minute basis that I don’t think I’ve ever seen before although I would have to go back to the Ronaldo and Suarez days to be sure.  It’s 5 goals and 4 assists having only started 5 games plus 75 minutes in 4 sub appearances.  Those are phenomonel returns.

His underlying stats are also fantastic and what’s more show a fairly rare all round ability to score and assist.

As ever gametime is the issue although if Pep does stay with the lone striker system and a back 4  then his prospects improve immensely

As I said above, as I write this I now see that both Aguero and Jesus have started in the EFL cup.  I will never try and guess Pep again

Richarlison

To some extent Richarlison is the Sane of Watford. Plays as an LAM.  Great returns with 3 goals and 4 assists in 8 starts and his underlying stats like Sane show the ability to be a goal scorer and a provider.  Could have had 2 goals against Chelsea to add to his assist if it wasn’t for 2 inexplicable misses.

Stoke (H)
Everton (A)
West Ham (H)
Newcastle (A)
Man Utd (H)
Spurs (H)

Otamendi

Only Monreal has more Bonus System Points than Otamendi although due to the attacking quality he’s only seen that translate into 5 bonus points.  In my mind Man City are the best defensive team in the league and Otamendi has the best attacking underlying stats of the 4 defenders. 2 goals this season in his 9 starts as well as Man City’s 6 clean sheets

West Brom (A)
Arsenal (H)
Leicester (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Southampton (H)
West Ham (H)

Kane

2 goals against Liverpool officially lifted the Wembley curse off Harry Kane.  Although for curse you really mean the bizarre way that fantastic underlying stats resulted in hitting the post rather than going in the net. 8 goals in 9 starts is fantastic, although those goals have come in 4 braces meaning he’s blanked in 5 games of the 9.  However the underlying stats are pretty much consistently good.   In my view he’s produced an acceptable or better goal threat in 7 of those 9 games.  Only the Swansea and Chelsea games I would say were disappointing.  Tricky fixture next.  Also has pens.

Crystal Palace (H)
Arsenal (A)
West Brom (H)

Watford (A)

THE SINKING SHIPS

These are the 5 most transferred OUT players so far in the gameweek.

4 of the 5 players are in my FPL team.  Here I was thinking I had a reasonably good week although these 4 players did contribute 6 points between them

Jesus

Again:  As I write this I now see that both Aguero and Jesus have started in the EFL cup.  I will never try and guess Pep again.

It’s pretty rare that you see someone who’s £1.65 to score and not injured being top of the sinking ships section but that’s Jesus’s fate this week after being left at the weekend.  Nothing to do with his excellent 6 goals and an assist in 7 starts backed up by excellent underlying stats.  It’s all about gametime perception.

West Brom (A)
Arsenal (H)
Leicester (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Southampton (H)
West Ham (H)

Mkhitaryan

4 games now with no returns and the substitution magnet he had become has got worse as he himself was on the bench in GW9.  The underlying stats don’t give you any hope.  In fact it’s worse than that, they’ve fallen off a cliff in the 4 game barren run. 2 tough fixtures next give FPL managers even more reason to sell if they needed it

Spurs (H)
Chelsea (A)
Newcastle (H)
Brighton (H)
Watford (A)
Arsenal (A)

Lukaku

9 goals and 2 assists in his 9 starts all of which saw him play the full 90 don’t exactly scream sell.  However the attraction to FPL managers of Kane and Aguero this week is strong as Lukaku faces 2 tough fixtures.

After the first 7 games where every game he turned up as a goal threat,  the last 2, and especially the Huddersfield game have been disappointing.  No player doesn’t have the occasional wobble (if you call 1 assist in 2 games a wobble) but the success of Aguero and the 2 tricky fixtures next have made FPL managers faith wobble

 Spurs (H)
Chelsea (A)
Newcastle (H)
Brighton (H)
Watford (A)
Arsenal (A)

Davies

No defender has scored more goals and only Azpilicueta and Trippier have more assists in FPL.  Add to that 3 clean sheets in his 6 starts and it looks like a good record.  However it’s the 3 games missing and in particular the last 2 that are the problem.  Obviously none of this was communicated in any effective way as you’d expect from Pochettinho.  The man who’s made an art form out of miscommunication of Rose and Lamela’s injury now seems to have moved his PR skills on to Davies and I imagine Wanyama to come

Who knows what’s going on really? Pochettinho is to injuries what Pep is to team selection

Man Utd (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Arsenal (A)
West Brom (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (A)

Sterling

Incredibly the 5th Manchester City out of 10 players in this article. At least it makes copying and pasting the fixtures easier.  Great returns, great underlying stats.  It’s just perceptions over gametime.  He missed out last week so that seems to be enough to get rid at the moment. Started in the EFL cup tonight whatever that means

West Brom (A)
Arsenal (H)
Leicester (A)
Huddersfield (A)
Southampton (H)
West Ham (H)
