Lineups:  Rodgers went to a back 4 surprisingly and there was no place for Toure or Sakho as Agger came back into the side.  Coutinho started in behind Suarez and Sturridge with a midfield 3 of Gerrard, Lucas and Henderson

Hangeland didn’t start for Fulham with Hughes on the bench again.  Dejagh and Kacaniklic got the flank positions with Ruiz left out as Kasami played up front with Berba

Player analysis

Defences

A clean sheet for fantasy premier league holders of Liverpool defensive assets at last at the 8th attempt.  They were never troubled.  The Fulham defence which has been better away than home, were their usual hopeless self

Suarez

2 goals and an assist.  His average position was far higher up the pitch than Sturridge and he had 3 times the penalty box touches plus some of the best shooting stats you will ever see.  His all round game led to him creating numerous chances as well for team mates

Sturridge

A surprising blank.  I don’t think anyone really needed to know that Suarez was the better option but if they didn’t this game would have shown it.  Shooting stats were ok but very little done to create chances for others and got into the penalty area disappointingly few times.  2 blanks in a row now

Gerrard

Last year Gerrard was a consistent returner despite abandoning his box to box game.  This is primarily due to set pieces and pens and can sustain a fantasy premier league midfielder.  Today.  After 5 opening round blanks it 2 goals and 4 assists in 6 games and returns in 5/6 and could come into fantasy premier league managers reckoning

Coutinho

If you were going to buy him now was the time but he surprisingly disappointed.  Had alot of shots and got into the box but just didn’t finish.  Created very few chances for others which was a surprise.  The underlying stats looked promising but have to be looked at the in context of the opposition.

Kasami

You would surely have had this cheapie on your bench this week and he certainly lived up to the role with a quiet game in common with his  attacking colleagues.  He wouldn’t have been bought for these games so nothing to worry about

Crystal Palace 0 Everton 0

Crystal Palace: Speroni, Ward, Gabbidon, Delaney, Moxey,
Dikgacoi (O’keefe 45), Jedinak, Bannan, Bolasie, Chamakh (Jerome, 63), Thomas (Puncheon, 85).
Subs not used: Mariappa, Gayle, Kebe, Price.
Booked: Jedinak.

Everton: Howard, Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Barry,
McCarthy, Mirallas (Deulofeu, 56), Osman (Barkley, 56), Pienaar, Lukaku.
Subs not used: Robles, Heitinga, Jelavic, Naismith, Stones.

Lineups: The back 4 seems settled under the new caretaker manager.  In midfield Bolasie returned to the side the rest being as last week.

Everton kept the same side as last week and Barkley remained on the bench.

Player analysis

Defences

Although Palace didn’t have many chances the ones they had were excellent and they really should have scored.  This really showed the route of their problems.  15 players in but no goal scorer.  Unfortunately quality premier league goal scorers don’t come cheap and far off Palaces budget.  Palaces stats were ok but Everton also had enough chances to win

Lukaku

Another disturbingly quiet game from Lukaku where he didn’t even get a shot in the box and only created 1 chance for a team mate.  That’s now 2 consecutive blanks and 3 blanks in the last 4 which is a worrying sign.  With the alternatives available in the striking positions he will come under some selling pressure no doubt.

Barkley

My gamble of starting him totally misfired.  Came on in the 56th minute so had time to contribute but in reality did very little.  Made worse by the fact that Osman had the better shooting stats.  With Liverpool next this maybe a good selling point

Mirrallas

Subbed after contributing virtually nothing.  3 consecutive blanks and 1 goal and 3 assists in his first 11 games isn’t particularly comforting

Southampton 4 Hull 1

Southampton: Boruc, Clyne, Lovren, Fonte, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Wanyama (S Davis 55), Ward-Prowse, Rodriguez, Lallana, Lambert. Subs not used: K Davis, Osvaldo, Cork, Chambers, Hooiveld, Gallagher.
Booked: Schneiderlin.
Goals: Schneiderlin 16, Lambert 30 (pen), Lallana 37. Davis Assists:  Clyne lambert 2 Lallana

Hull: Harper, Rosenior, Davies, McShane, Figueroa, Elmohamady (Koren 45), Meyler, Livermore, Huddlestone, Boyd, Sagbo. Subs not used: Bruce, Graham, Jakupovic, Gedo, Quinn, Proschwitz.
Booked: Harper, Davies.
Goal: Sagbo 55. Assist:  Liverlomre

Lineups:

Osvaldo didn’t make the starting line up so JWP and Rodriguez started.  One of these will make way if Pocettinho decides to play 2 upfront.  Otherwise no surprises

For Hull McShane took the CB spot that will presumably go to Chester when he returns.  Brady was not deemed fit enough to start and Meyler took his spot.  Boyd continued in the absence of Aluko.

Player analysis

Defences

No clean sheet for Saints which was a disappointment.  However defensively their stats were excellent and they deserved a clean sheet.  Hulls stats were terrible which was a surprise given good defensive efforts against City and Spurs

Lallana

A goal and an assist giving him 3 each for the season.  I was a little concerned here due to his inconsistency and the fact that Hull had shown good ability at times to defend away from home.  However he was excellent in this game and apart from the returns had  very good shooting stats and reasonable creating chances stats and a very high central average position.  2 tricky games now away to Arsenal and Chelsea may just be enough to wait rather than jump on the bandwagon

Lambert

A pen and 2 assists taking his total 4 goals and 3 for the season.  Interestingly, all bar the penalty at WBA were at home.  Also only returned in 4/11 games and again apart from the pen at WBA against 2 promoted sides Palace and Hull plus Fulham.  Again with Arsenal A and Chelsea A next it would be better to hold than jump on any bandwagon
