fantasy premier league lineup comments:

Man Utd:  Smalling got the RB spot and Evans CB.  Valencia and Kagawa got the flanks with Jones and Carrick CDMs.  Cheapie Januzaj was on the bench.  RVP and Rooney were up front.

Arsenal:  Mertesacker was missing so Vermaelen took the CB spot. Arteta and Flamini were the CDMs with Ramsey Cazorla and Ozil the 3 attacking midfielders

Player analysis

Defences

A tight game with not that many chances.  Arsenals defensive stats were excellent and Uniteds pretty good as well considering some of the disastrous defensive performances recently

RVP

Interesting this.  Like Fulham a 1 shot 1 goal performance from RVP.  Making up for the low conversion rate.  The stats give some hope to fantasy premier league managers that he’s not going to return to last years scoring form. The question with RVP is not whether he will keep scoring, History says he will even if he wont get as many assists, its just with the alternatives  is it worth paying that cash.  Suarez and Aguero look nailed on.  So what of the 3rd spot with Lukaku, Benteke and Giroud all having a little dip?  Rooney is the cheaper alternative and I have ranked him higher in my “ones to watch” articles but RVP looks more of a prospect with the others having a little dip.

By the way its now 4 goals and 2 assists in his last 4 and a 100% return rate in those games

Rooney

Got an assist again.  It was a pretty quiet game though for Rooney in terms of attacking output and like RVP it was 1 chance created 1 assist received.

Still you cant argue with form and Rooney certainly does have it.  last year also showed his ability to get returns over and above what you would expect from the underlying stats and that certainly has been the case so far this season.  Interesting that again his average position was higher than RVP.

Ramsey

Pretty quiet game.  1st game in the last 4 he hasn’t returned in though so you cant really complain.

Ozil

A lot of involvement in the final third and created a couple of chances but no goal threat.  Likes his home comforts and its still only 1 assist away from the Emirates

Giroud

Had the chance to score and had the best shooting stats of anyone plus the most pen box touches.  Has been mercilessly sold in fantasy premier league for other options.  Its only 2 goals without returns and those against Liverpool and Man Utd

Sunderland 1 Man City 0

SUNDERLAND: Mannone 7; Celustka 6, O’Shea 7, Brown 8, Bardsley 7; Ki 7; Giaccherini 5 (Gardner 73, 6), Larsson 6, Colback 7, Johnson 6 (Borini 87); Fletcher 6 (Altidore 77)
Subs not used: Cabral, Westwood, Diakité, Mavrias
Booked:
Scorer: Bardsley Assist: Brown

MAN CITY: Pantilmon 6; Richards 6 (Zabaleta 71, 6), Demichelis 5, Lescott 6, Kolarov 6; Garcia 5 (Navas 46, 6), Yaya Toure 6; Milner 6, Aguero 6, Nasri 5; Negredo 5 (Dzeko 71, 7)
Subs not used: Hart, Navas, Rodwell, Clichy, Boyata
Booked: Garcia
Fantasy  premier league lineup comments:

Sunderland played 2 FBs with Celustka at RB and Bardsley at LB.  Poyet  played 5 in midfield with Ki, Colback and Larsson the CMs and Giaccherini and Johnson on the flanks. Fletcher was the lone striker.

Man City showed that you can’t be safe with any defensive picks with Richards and Kolarov the FBs and Lescott coming in for the injured Nastasic.  Will their be an agreed CB partner for Kompany or will that be rotated as well?  The midfield was predictable apart from Milner starting instead of Navas.  Negredo and Aguero started up top.

 Player analysis

Defences

Sunderland had very few chances and the City defensive stats were good.  Sunderlands stats have been alot worse but ultimately City had more than enough chances including, some good ones to score

Fletcher

Very quiet game which was understandable given the opposition and the nature of the game

Aguero

Had alot of penalty box touches and enough shooting chances to score (plus he created chances for others) but it just didn’t happen for him today.  Not one of the away day problems.  Apart from this game he’s returned a goal or assist in every away game he’s started.  1st time he’s not returned in a game he’s started since GW3 so can be forgiven overall

Negredo

Very quiet game in contrast to Aguero who at least had chances to score.  He is one of the homers having only scored away as a sub against Cardiff.

Nasri

Alot of the reasons for this loss will centre around Silva not playing.  Nasri though created a host of chances for others and the explanation looks to simple for me.  Doesn’t present much of a goal threat though is his main issue
