fantasy premier league GW12 – the early bandwagons and sinking ships

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW12 bandwagons and sinking ships article where we outline the 5 most transferred in and out players so far in the gameweek.  By the way I get a few comments as to the make up of this list.  I don’t determine it if you didn’t realise. It’s solely on the number of transfers.  Hopefully that makes sense to everyone and clarifies that

The bandwagons

Ozil

The £8.7m Arsenal CAM got 2 assists and a 10 point haul in the win over Swansea at the weekend.  That makes it a goal and 9 assists for the season.  7 of those assists and the goal have come in his last 5 games.  Given his central attacking midfield position and the form of Arsenal it gives him every opportunity to add to this.  Unsurprisingly given the returns to date and the emphasis on assists he has got fantastic creating chances stats but little in the way of shooting stats.  Fixtures are a little mixed but fixtures mean little to Arsenal in their current form

Vardy

Again I’m staggered that there are still people doubting the £7.3m Leicester striker as he scored in the 8th goal in a row making it 11 goals and 1 assist for the season.  His underlying shooting and creating chances stats are excellent showing that it’s no fluke either.  Fixtures are a little mixed and thats why some people are getting nervous over the Leicester double up with Mahrez.  The 3 goals against the WBA team who equally had the most clean sheets showed that this may not be the impediment people are thinking of.

Smalling

3 consecutive clean sheets makes it 7 in the first 11 games of the season.  The underlying defensive stats back up their defensive solidity.  The £6.5m Man Utd CB maybe the most expensive but with a lot of selection changes by LVG Smalling becomes a haven of security with only the GK having any certainty elsewhere.  The fixtures now look pretty good as well.

Benteke

A goal and an assist in 27 minutes as a sub in the win over Chelsea for the £8.2m Liverpool forward made it 4 goals and an assist in his 8 games so far this season.  That makes it an impressive minutes per FPL point of 14.5 minutes and a consistency rate of 4 returns of a goal or assist in 8 games ie 50%.  You would think he will start given his impact although if and when Sturridge is fit and how he fits into the pressing system probably still need to be navigated.  Fixtures aren’t too bad in patches.

Mahrez

If you thought a few tougher fixtures coming or an away game to Pulis’ WBA were ok to bench him then you were bought back to reality with his 2 goal 15 FPL point haul with a thump.  He’s now on an incredible minutes per FPL point of 9.1 minutes and a consistency return rate of 8 returns from 10 games or 80%.  None of this is luck as his underlying stats are fantastic.

The sinking ships

Martial

The £8.1m Manchester United forward’s shunting to the left wing coupled with his 4 games without a goal or assist have seen him sold in numbers.  There’s also no underlying shooting or creating chances stats on which to keep the faith with.  Even with the excellent fixtures coming up it’s a difficult hold.  Interestingly he was sold by all 4 of the top 10 FPL managers I follow

Darmian

Above I spoke about Man Utd’s clean sheet record, excellent underlying stats and great fixtures coming up.  So why is the Man Utd £5.7m RB being sold in numbers.  Firstly he has reached the 5 yellow card threshold for a 1 game suspension and will be suspended for the GW12 home game to WBA.  Secondly he hardly has LVG’s confidence given a number of early substititutions, criticisms and even being dropped for the Man City game.

Hazard

It’s hard to believe that the £11.0m Chelsea attacking midfielder was last years player of the season with 14 goals and 10 assists as he now sits after GW11 with only 1 goal and 3 assists.  His minutes per FPL point of 24.3 mins and a consistency return rate of 36%.  He’s also been dropped in 1 game.  The underlying creating chances stats have held up to some extent but the shooting stats have fallen off a cliff so this is not just bad luck.  If you’re determined to hold on though now is the time as the fixtures are very good.

Jagielka

Injured and not expected back to 26 December.  An obvious sale.  Unfortunately the replacement of CB Funes Mori doesn’t give any value as he’s surprisingly even more expensive at £5.5m.  To make it worse he really struggled in the win over Sunderland which was not a great sign.  If you can afford it I would probably invest the extra cash in Coleman at £5.9m if you’re sold on the Everton defence.

Mata

Incredibly the £8.8m midfielder is the 3rd Man Utd player in the sinking ships.  With some good fixtures coming up and a position of 4th in the table you would think that there would be someone in the attacking frame for FPL managers.  Mata looked to be that person after 3 goals and 2 assists in the 4 games between GW4 and GW7.  However, 4 blanks afterwards and not getting past 81 minutes in any of the 4 games has brought this to a thundering halt.  No shooting or creating chances stats either to make you think things will improve at all.
