fantasy premier league GW16 player picks by Rob Reid (the FPL Vet)

Hi and welcome to Gameweek 16 Player Picks. For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.

You might also want to take a look at Rob’s November review which was posted today and covers a number of hot topics and player ratings.

Player Categories

One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.

One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.

One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!

I’ll keep a tally each week of how things are going – I’ll analyse the Banker over 4 GWs, the other 2 will just be on a weekly basis. Wish me luck and here goes!

Gameweek 15 Review

GW12 Banker – Wilfred Zaha

GW12 – 7 points (1 goal)
GW13 – 2 points
GW14 – 3 points (midfield clean sheet)
GW15 – 3 points (midfield clean sheet) – another blank as Palace ground out another goalless stalemate. Still nice fixtures until the Arsenal game on the 28th.

GW13 Banker – Leroy Sane

GW13 – 1 point (yellow card)
GW14 – 0 points (didn’t play)
GW15 – 2 points – the points of dried up for the City winger, with concerns about the xG and xA that have dropped off in the last few weeks.

GW14 Banker – Cesar Azpilicueta

GW14 – 0 points (didn’t play)
GW15 – 2 points (1 goal conceded) – Chelsea disappointingly conceded early, scuppering clean sheet points but played several key passes including in the build-up to the second goal.

GW15 Banker – Jonjoe Kenny

GW15 – 5 points (clean sheet, yellow card) – a good start to his banker stint. A tough derby fixture this weekend but then 2 nice ones afterwards and a nice £4.3m price tag.

GW15 Ace – Mo Salah

5 points (1 assist) – yet another return for the league’s top goal scorer and the leading points scorer in the game. A must-own at the moment.

GW15 Joker – Xherdan Shaqiri

8 points (1 goal, 1 bonus point) – another return for the Swiss, proving instrumental in Stoke’s comeback to beat the ailing Swans.

Gameweek 16 Picks

Banker – Eden Hazard (£10.8m CHE) – whm

His second double figure haul in 4 gameweeks has served serious notice of his form and captain potential. He’s still a relative differential with 12% ownership but don’t expect this to last if he continues in this vein which the stats suggest he will. A plum fixture against struggling West Ham this week is a good bet for another decent haul for the Belgian.

Ace – Harry Kane (£12.8m TOT) – STO

Perhaps this is a foolish call in view of Spurs stuttering displays against the lower teams, but surely Kane won’t blank against one of the worst defences in the league! Are we brave enough to captain him again though? He should go in hungry and well-rested after sitting out the UCL in midweek, the bookies certainly like his chances this week as well.

Joker – Marc Albrighton (£5.5m LEI) – new

It’s 2 returns in the last 3 for the budget Foxes winger and next up is a visit to the north-east. The hosts have some injuries to key defensive players and have been struggling at the back of late so I fancy there will be some goals in this for the away team. Albrighton carries a far more budget friendly price tag than the more popular options of Vardy or Mahrez; he could be worth a punt this week.

That’s it from me on Player Picks – best of luck this week everyone.
