The Bandwagons

These are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek in order

Dann

Not often a defender leads the transfers in but indeed the £5.4m Crystal Palace CB does do that this week after a clean sheet in the win over Southampton.  No defender has scored more goals, only Kolarov has more bonus points and only Alderweireld and Smalling have more FPL points.  To be honest his underlying goal threat stats could be better but there’s no doubt he looks like a total menace in the box at set pieces.  Still only 4 clean sheets for Palace although the underlying defensive stats are good.  He’s just quite a chunky price for a Palace defender is the only negative and it’s whether he’s worth the £1.0m more than say RB Joel Ward.  That depends on your view of premiums for attacking defenders

Lukaku

Every week the £9.2m forward seems to come in the transfers in and every week I think really??  He’s scored in the last 6 games totalling 7 goals and 2 assists.  I feel I’ll be insulting you by saying more.  Could have easily had a hat trick at the weekend as he continues his run

Alderweireld

Hard to rationalise the transfers in after the late collapse that saw Spurs concede 2 goals to lose to Newcastle.  However the £5.7m Spurs CB is the 2nd highest points scoring defender.  Spurs have some very strong defensive stats.  However that hasn’t translated into clean sheets with only 5.  To put that into context thats 2 less than Watford and the same as West Ham.  However pretty good fixtures ahead should help

Ighalo

Impossible to underestimate the £6.0m Watford forward who leads the line with Deeney behind.  10 goals and 5 assists in 16 games is some record.  An FPL point every 12.8 mins is incredible as is consistency return rate of a goal or assist in 10 of those 16 games (63%).  This has been no fluke either.  His underlying shooting and creating chances are excellent.  He also has pedigree with 20 odd goals last season in the Championship.  However we now will witness a good form vs fixtures test as the fixtures are now going to turn for Watford.

Butland

GK’s very rarely appear in this table but the Stoke £4.9m GK has now accumulated 7 clean sheets in the last 9 games and that is nothing short of unbelieveable.  Only Man Utd’s 9 is more.  Along that run he’s got 9 bonus points, the most of any GK and has made only 1 save less than the leader Pantilimon.  To be honest there’s nothing fancy about Stokes underlying defensive stats.  It seems a 1 man goal stopping show.  Can it continue is the unknown.  A mixture of fixtures ahead

The Sinking Ships

These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek

Smalling

The £6.9m Man Utd CB is now the most expensive defender and rightly so on form and the 9 clean sheets accumulated by Man Utd to date.  2 more than any other team and he’s also the top points scoring defender.  He also has good attacking threat although thats only translated into 1 goal this season.  The issue is his groin injury althoughh he is expected back this weekend.  However this is a difficult period with the games coming thick and fast for injuries not only from the rotation point of view but also any delay in recovery can really mean games lost.  I assume this is the effect Smalling is facing as well as the dismantling of the defence by Bournemouth showing that the huge amount of defensive injuries United face questions his future clean sheet tally.

Kane

It really was a pretty disturbing performance by the £9.8m Spurs forward against Newcastle.  What position was he playing?  Was Alli the striker and Kane the number 10?  No shots in the box and not a single pen box touch.  It was a pretty disturbing performance.  After being rested in the Europa League too.  However to be fair the season underlying stats aren’t bad.  However the actual returns aren’t good at all.  No returns in the last 3 games.  An FPL point every 19.7 mins is terrible and returning a goal or assist in 5/16 games at 31% is worse than terrible.  If you’re holding on it’s because the season long underlying stats are good and there’s some good fixtures in there.  Has pens.

De Bruyne

The £10.9m Man City midfielder was rested due to fatigue which doesn’t bode well for the Xmas period where in Germany he would traditionally have his feet up.  The sales seem a little harsh and 4 goals and 6 assists is pretty good form in 12 games.  His minutes per FPL point is an impressive 13.1 and his consistency rate is 50%.   As well as good creating chances stats.  Doesn’t have much in the way of shooting stats though.  Away to Arsenal is a good time to sell though if you’re going to.

Pelle

The £8.1m Southampton striker has had a knee problem for several weeks now which has lead to him starting only 1 of his last 3 games.  He’s also returned a single goal in 1 of his last 7 games.  Add to that some tough games ahead and sales are no surprise

Spurs (H)
Arsenal (H)
West Ham (A)
Norwich (A)
Watford (H)
West Brom (H)

Darmian

I could pretty much write the issues with Smalling in this bit here for Darmian the £5.6m Man Utd RB.  He is also expected to be back for GW17 although I’m even more sceptical of hamstring injuries on return time.  To make it worse Darmian isn’t even guaranteed a place in the fit line up although with the amount of injuries he should be ok for some time.
