FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW19 FORWARD TIPS – PLAYER RANKINGS

First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.

Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player and their next 6 fixtures.

I’ve just finished a cheap forwards article if you’re looking to downgrade your forwards to go 3-5-2- or 4-5-1 You may also find it interesting to see who the 10 top FPL managers I follow have and who are the bandwagon transfers this week.

STATS DEFINITIONS

Fixt Ease: The ease of the mentioned fixture range from an attacking perspective. See our GW19 fixture ease article

Mins per FPL Pt. The amount of minutes a player takes to earn an FPL point. The shorter and obviously lower the number is the better

ATGS – the bookies anytime goalscoring odds for GW19.

xG and xA per 90 – the expected goals and assists per 90 minutes played from the better than excellent site understat.com.

THE SCHEDULE

I’ve not included Morata due to his suspension for GW19

Kane

It says alot about the state of the forward market that Kane remains the number 1 option in my mind.  On the positive side he has a double gameweek 22 coming up and he, as a forward. is the most explosive option capable of double figure FPL point hauls at any time.  He also has good if not exceptional underlying stats and is gametime secure and unless rested will normally play 90 minutes each game.  Kane also has pen duties.

However there are a multitude of negatives.  He is part of a stuttering Spurs side which have struggled this season and in particular he and Spurs have struggled in home games against lower placed sides.  He is also alarmingly inconsistent, only returning a goal or assist in 7 of 17 games and his overall returns are poor for the value at an FPL point every 15.2 minutes.

His returns and inconsistencies are such that he really is a difficult captain choice.  What is the point of someone at that price if he can’t be captained?  Many FPL managers have him in a holding pen until DGW22 for Spurs is over and will reassess then

Lukaku

In some ways Lukaku is the reverse of Kane.  He’s very consistent returning a goal or assist in 12 of 18 games or 67%.  However he isn’t anywhere near as explosive and unlike Kane seems to have a problem accumulating bonus points.  Whereas with Kane you worry about whether you will get a return, with Lukaku it’s more can he get more than 5 or 6 points if he does return.

Like Kane’s inconsistency it’s not an ideal captain trait and at the cost of £11.3m that’s not what you want

Aguero

Aguero for me is the best striker in the league.  He has the returns, the consistency, the underlying stats and penalty duties.  He just doesn’t have the 1 thing you need and that’s gametime security.  This is not just the occasional rest this is a job share with Jesus as Pep continues his quest to win all 4 competitions.  With Jesus playing midweek in the EFL Cup you would expect Aguero to start this week vs Bournemouth.

Firmino

Firmino is an interesting one.  His returns are pretty good for the price mainly helped by an ability to win bonus points.  However how you benefit from him depends on when you own him.  He’s very inconsistent returning a goal or assist in 6 of 16 qualifying fixtures which is a terrible 38%.  However he is explosive and only Kane gets a higher percentage of 10 + FPL points.  His underlying stats suggest an attacking midfielder rather than a striker.  Maybe the result of his false 9 position.  Does have gametime security although subject to Klopps rest and rotation team sheets

Lacazette

It’s been a pretty ordinary start to the PL for Lacazette.  His returns are pretty ordinary and he can’t earn a bonus point for love nor money or finish 90 minutes.  That may change with Giroud’s injury but there’s still Welbeck to steal minutes from him

Liverpool (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
West Brom (A)
Chelsea (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Crystal Palace (H)

Jesus

I can pretty much replicate what I said for Aguero.  If he had gametime security rather than a job share with Aguero he would be gold.  Penalised compared to Aguero though for not having Pens and having played midweek which increases his risk of a rest this week

Bournemouth (H)
Newcastle (A)
Crystal Palace (A)
Watford (H)
Liverpool (A)
Newcastle (H)

Austin

Austin is a natural born goal scorer full stop.  He has the underlying stats and the returns when on the pitch to prove it.  It’s just a shame that former Pep team mate Pellegrino thinks like Pep, despite not being in Europe or the EFL cup, and seems to think he needs a job share with 2 quite obviously inferior goalscorers.  Tough fixtures but great entry point fixture home to Huddersfield

Huddersfield (H)
Spurs (A)
Man Utd (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Watford (A)
Spurs (H)

Rooney

The revival is remarkable and 10 goals and 3 assists even allowing for 3 pens is some goalscoring record for a guy who plays as a midfielder or number 10 most of the time.  It’s hard to fault him.  He’s consistent his underlying stats are good an his minutes are also good.  You just wonder how he’s doing it from the position’s he’s playing in

Chelsea (H)
West Brom (A)
Bournemouth (A)
Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)
West Brom (H)

Murray

The Brighton striker has kept things ticking along although his returns and consistency are pretty ordinary and he really struggles to pick up bonus points.  Does have pens though.  Rotation over the 3 games over Christmas in 7 days maybe an issue.

Watford (H)
Chelsea (A)
Newcastle (A)
Bournemouth (H)
West Brom (A)
Chelsea (H)

Vardy

He must be doing something right to have such secure gametime under tinkerman Claude Puel but whatever it is it isn’t good or consistent returns or underlying stats.  However secure gametime is such a rare commodity at the moment that it counts for alot.
