FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW19 PLAYER PICKS BY ROB REID (THE FPL VET)

Hi and welcome to Gameweek 19 Player Picks. For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.

Player categories

One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.

One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.

One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!

I’ll keep a tally each week of how things are going – I’ll analyse the Banker over 4 GWs, the other 2 will just be on a weekly basis. Wish me luck and here goes!

Gameweek 18 Review

GW15 Banker – Jonjoe Kenny

GW15 – 5 points (clean sheet, yellow card)
GW16 – 2 points (1 goal conceded)
GW17 – 6 points (clean sheet)
GW18 – 4 point (1 assist, yellow card, 1 goal conceded) – A slightly fortuitous return to finish his banker stint, but owners won’t worry about that. Tough fixture against Chelsea next but great value at £4.4m

GW16 Banker – Eden Hazard

GW16 – 2 points
GW17 – 3 points (midfield clean sheet)
GW18 – 6 points (1 assist, midfield clean sheet) A quieter FPL match again, Morata’s position on the bench leaving him in the false 9 spot. The same fate unfortunately awaits him this week with Morata now suspended.

GW17 Banker – David De Gea

GW17 – 11 points (clean sheet, 2 save points, 3 bonus points)
GW18 – 3 points (1 save point, 1 goal conceded) United were coasting until they conceded a sloppy goal from a set piece, costing owners clean sheet points. It’s a trip to The King Power next, Vardy and co. will be keen to test a United team smarting from their League exit. Could be a tough game.

GW18 Banker – Nicolas Otamendi

GW18 – 1 point (1 goal conceded, yellow card) – Ugh, another likely clean sheet disappears to some lazy late defending. Bournemouth visit the Ethiad this week, with the clean sheet odds looking favourable for The Citizens.

GW18 Ace – Riyad Mahrez

2 points – A tough day at the office for Leicester, outfoxed by the Eagles at home. It was an untidy game from the Algerian and as mentioned above, it’s a tough fixture versus Man United next.

GW18 Joker – Willian

3 points (midfield clean sheet) –  A blank for the Brazilian after his impressive GW17 haul. Would expect him to start this week with Morata missing.

Gameweek 19 Picks

Banker – Laurent Depoitre (HUD £5.3m) sou

Hear me out on this one! There is a shift happening among some managers towards a power midfield 5 combined with budget strikers. If you’re looking to do this, I reckon you can do a lot worse than Huddersfield cover. Mounie is arguably their best striker but is £0.5m more. £4.5m Quaner is the cheapest but returns are more scant. I think Depoitre gives a balance – good price that you don’t mind benching, decent game time and a chance of a return. The fixtures are good for the Yorkshire team and they’ve hit some form again so now looks a good time if you’re looking to invest.

Ace – Sergio Aguero (MCI £11.5m) BOU

FPL hero Kun has been a slightly forgotten man this season, with his game time being managed by rotation king Guardiola. He looks a good bet for a start this week though with Jesus completing 120 minutes in midweek, allowing Kun to put his feet up. Bournemouth shipped 4 to Liverpool last weekend and had a tough game at Stamford Bridge in midweek, so this looks primed for City to be on the goals with Aguero at the fore. What can go wrong, right?

Joker – Angelo Ogbonna (WHM £4.4m) – NEW

West Ham seem to have settled under David Moyes’ stewardship, especially in defence. This week’s visitors Newcastle are in terrible form and won’t be enamoured by the long trip to the capital I’m sure. At £4.4m, Ogbonna looks a great budget option, with the added bonus of a double gameweeks on the horizon soon. There is a blank the weekend prior remember though so ensure you have ample squad coverage for this.

That’s it from me on Player Picks – best of luck this week everyone and a very Merry Christmas to you all!
