Newcastle

Not really fair to judge Newcastle players on a game against Spurs especially when they played nearly half the game with 10 men.  Therefore hard to move away from the 2 main men in the championship last season in £6.0m RW Ritchie and £6.5m CF Gayle.  Ritchie is the set piece man and a good shout for pens.  If you want to gamble £5.0m LW Atsu played 90 minutes in an advanced position and posed some attacking threat.  He does have competition for his place but 1 to think about if you’re looking to throw the dice cheaply.

Southampton

It was more of the same from last season for Southampton.  29 shots and no goals and you’re wondering how Tadic didn’t score.  Ironically this game it was more Yoshida who deserved that dubious accolade

While the fixtures are good though the temptation to roll the dice will always be there.  £7.0m Gabbiadini was the biggest goal threat but failed to deliver.  Even while he starts Austin will always take minutes and yesterday Gabbiadini only got 68.  £6.5m mids Redmond and Tadic are the 2 attacking mids to consider.  Redmond plays wider than Tadic but was more of a threat shot and creative wise than Tadic against Swansea.  Incredibly between the 3 of them they only got 1 shot on target. Both of them have terrible returns last season but keep in view due to their high shot volume.   If you want to go cheaper then set piece man £5.5m CAM Ward Prowse is the option.  He does have minutes and starting place risk from Boufal if Boufal ever adjusts to the Premier League.  Yesterday was a case in point and Ward Prowse was subbed after 70 minutes.  He did play in an advanced central position which is a big plus for a player of his price and fixtures

Man Utd

Obviously the main man here is £11.5m forward Lukaku who shone on hi debut with 2 goals.  In midfield there’s £8.0m RAM Mkhitaryan who finished yesterday with 2 assists and 11 points.  Mkhitarayan was absolutely brilliant and is such a strong creative force.  He’s probably the most advanced of the midfielders as he will flank Lukaku with Rashford on the left.  However £7.0m CM Mata, who was unlucky to blank, also got forward as Mourinho put Herrera to the bench.  Mata will be a minutes and gametime risk and could actually be sacrificed at the wrong time during games as he’s not as effective on the counter.  Mkhitaryan has to be considered a gametime risk after last season until he proves he’s turned the corner which he may already have in Mourinho’s mind. £8.0m CM  Pogba is the safest minutes was and was fantastic with a goal being his reward.  Whether he will still be forward enough is questionable although that didn’t seem a problem yesterday.

Swansea (A)
Leicester (H)
Stoke (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)

West Ham

Like Newcastle yesterday was a difficult day to judge West Ham.   Enfant terrible £7.0m LAM Arnautovic is my choice in the midfield with £7.0m Chicharito also an option.  I’m not sure the first game I would transfer them in is away to Southampton but the next 2 are good even if away.  Arnautovic will play in a very advanced  position and make good runs plus have set pieces.  He just often promises more than he delivers though and last season couldn’t have been a better example..  Chicarito is a finisher if he can get the service.

Newcastle (A)
Huddersfield (H)
West Brom (A)
Spurs (H)
Swansea (H)

WBA

2 options here for me both have their drawbacks.  £6.0m Fwd Rodriguez started the game as a CF and was very threatening but got shunted to the wing when Rondon came on which isn’t ideal.  £6.0m RM Phillips who has some share of set pieces can also be an option.  He was quiet and quite wide in this game and last season went 8 consecutive games blanking so he doesn’t come without risk.

Burnley (A)
Stoke (H)
Brighton (A)
West Ham (H)
Arsenal (A)
Watford (H)
