Fantasy premier league – GW2 match analysis – Spurs v Swansea & Man Utd v Chelsea

Gameweek analysis

Here’s my GW2 fantasy premier league analysis for the GW2 games Man Utd v Chelsea and Spurs v Swansea.  I’ll be giving views from a fantasy premier league perspective on the lineups, the game itself and the “winners and losers” in terms of players from the game.

Spurs 1 Swansea 0

Goal:  Soldado  Assist:  Townsend

Lineups

Ratings from the Daily Mail

Tottenahm: Lloris 7; Walker 5, Dawson 7, Vertonghen 7, Rose 6; Capoue 6; Townsend 7 (Sandro 87), Paulinho 6, Dembele 5 (Sigurdsson 63, 5), Chadli 5; Soldado 6 (Defoe 79).
Subs not used: Kaboul, Naughton, Friedel, Carroll.
Booked: Soldado.
Goals: Soldado (pen) 58.  Assist:  Townsend
Swansea: Vorm 8; Rangel 6, Flores 7, Williams 6, Davies 6; Shelvey 5 (Bony 68, 4), Canas 6, De Guzman 5; Hernandez 5, Michu 5, Routledge 5 (Pozuelo 58, 5).
Subs not used: Tremmel, Amat, Britton, Lamah, Richards.
Booked: Davies, Vorm, Michu, Williams.

Spurs:  Capoue instead of Siggy.  Townsend in for the injured Lennon

Swansea:  Bony on the bench.  Michu leads the line

The Match

Spurs dominated the game with the emphasis in attack, again, mainly down the right but this time through Townsend and Walker.   Spurs were denied and an early pen when Shelvy bought down Townsend but both players repeated the action and this time a pen was awarded which Soldado dispatched.  Swansea came back  after the goal but the Spurs defence again held solid

The winners

The Spurs defence:  Another excellent defensive performance with very good underlying stats kept a good attacking team under wraps

Paulino:   A much higher average position and murdered everyone in the shooting stats.  This has to bring him on to our radar.  Really should have scored

The losers

Michu:  Lead the line as a striker but didn’t get a look in.  Will  he lead the line again?

Bony:  Didn’t start and needs clarity over role before investment from fantasy premier league managers

Other comments

Soldado:  Another game another pen.  But while the Palace game he had decent underlying stats, here had very little chance to score and it will be interesting to see if Spurs can create more chances for him at home.

Man Utd 0 Cheslsea 0

lineups

Ratings from the Daily Mail

Man Utd:  De Gea 6, Jones 6, Ferdinand 7, Vidic 7, Evra 6, Valencia (Young 67, 6) 8, Cleverley 6, Carrick 6, Welbeck (Giggs 78) 6, Rooney 7, Van Persie 6.

Subs: Anderson, Smalling, Lindegaard, Kagawa, Buttner.

Chelsea: Cech 6, Ivanovic 6, Cahill 6, Terry 7, Cole 6, Ramires 6, Lampard 5, De Bruyne 5 (Torres 60, 6), Oscar 7, Hazard 6 (Azpilicueta 93), Schurrle 6.

Subs: Essien, Mikel, Lukaku, Schwarzer, Mata.

Booked: De Bruyne, Torres

Man Utd:  Rooney started behind the striker.  Welbeck and Valencia on the flanks with Cleverley and Carrick the CMs

Chelsea:  No recognised striker.  Schurrle lead the line.  No Mata.    De Bruyne and Oscar the attacking midfielders.  Lamps played 3 in a row.  Defence unchanged with Luiz injured and Azpili presumably out of favour or not match fit

The match

Chelsea only came for a point.  The much vaunted Mourinho counter attack didn’t exist as they continually slowed it down when in possession.  The form of attack was to try and get Schurrle in behind the Utd defence.  Utd tried to win the game but just couldn’t get the break through

The winners

Both defences:  Chelsea conceded a reasonable amount of chances but you have to give credit to any team that can keep Utd from scoring.  Utd neutralised the space between the lines and were very compact.  Chelsea had virtually no scoring chances.  6 sets of bonus points in fantasy premier league given to the defence

Rooney:  The man of the match and showed how much better Utd are with him.  The creator behind RVP that Utd need

RVP:  Didn’t return but in my mind emerged with credit as the main scoring force in the game.  Best shooting stats

The losers

Mata Azpilicueta and Lukaku:  Have to be out of favour with 3 games and minimal involvement.  I would sell all of them

Thats it.  A little brief with time pressure but hope the main messages got through
