Newcastle 4-1-4-1
Krul 6.5; Janmaat 7, Williamson 6, Coloccini 7, Dummett 7; Anita 7 (De Jong 70’); Cabella 7, Colback 7, Sissoko 7, Gouffran 6.5; Riviere 6 (Perez 77’ (Taylor 90’))
Sent off: Williamson

Lineup comment

No surprises in Villas lineup.  Senderos started over Baker.  For Newcastle Gouffran started over De Jong but that will surely be a fitness thing only.

Player comment

Another clean sheet for Villa although the jurys still out for me and Newcastle had a number of chances.  Hutton does look like a vaible cheapie though at £4.1m.  Williamson despite being sent off won a number of balls in the air which gives him attacking potential.  Whether he has the bonus potential of Coloccini at the same price is very questionable.

Cabella apart from a few tricks and creating a few chances was a little disappointing  after his bright start last week.  Riverere looks like he needs some adjustment period

Both teams have good home games in GW3 though

Chelsea 2 Leicester 0

Goals: Costa and Hazard

Lineups: (ratings from the Daily Mail)

CHELSEA: Courtois 8, Ivanovic 7, Cahill 6, Terry 6, Azpilicueta 6.5, Matic 6, Fabregas 7, Oscar 7 (Willian 6, 70), Hazard 6.5, Schurrle 6.5 (Ramires 6.5, 64), Costa 7 (Drogba 6.5, 80).
Subs not used: Cech, Luis, Zouma, Mikel.

LEICESTER CITY: Schmeichel 8.5, De Laet 7, Konchesky 6.5, Morgan 6.5, Hammond 8 (Taylor-Fletcher 6.5, 73), King 6.5, Schlupp 7, Mahrez 7.5 (Albrighton 6, 68), Nugent 7, Ulloa 6.5 (Wood 84).
Subs not used: Hamer, Hopper, Knockaert, Wasilewski.

Lineup comment:

Mourinho amazingly played the same team as last Monday.

Player comment:

Costa showed what a good finisher he is with his 2nd goal in 2 games.

Schurrle continued to get into the box and make chances for himself.  He’s a bargain at £7.6m if he can hold his place.  The team for Everton away will be interesting.

You can never ignore Hazard at home to low placed opposition.  He was outstanding yesterday.

The Chelsea defence was better but still conceded big chances.

Ivanovic may even be worth the £7.0m cash if the Chelsea defence is solid.  He was a constant attacking threat.  He’s the top Chelsea point scorer with 22 from a goal, an assist and 5 bonus points

Fabregas went a long way towards being an attacking threat apart from assists getting into the box and having some shooting chances.

£4.5m mid Albrighton may have a difficult job getting into the side as Mahrez was excellent on the right flank

Crystal Palace 1 West Ham 3

Goals:  Chamakh.  Zarate  Cole  Downing

Lineup:

Crystal Palace XI: Speroni, Kelly, Hangeland, Delaney, Ward, Bannan (Williams 71), Jedinak, O’Keefe (Murray 83), Bolasie, Chamakh, Campbell (Gayle 70)
Unused subs: Mariappa, McCarthy, Guedioura, Hennessey

West Ham XI: Adrian, O’Brien, Tomkins, Reid, Cresswell, Noble, Downing (Diame 90), Zarate (Poyet 83), Vaz Te, Cole (Sakho 68)
Unused subs: Morrison, Demel, Jaaskelainen, Valencia

Lineup comment:

O’Keefe replaced Ledley who was injured in the warmup.  Bannan got the nod to replace Puncheon while he’s suspended

O’Brien held the RB spot with Jenkinson not fit.  Zarate got the nod over injured Nolan

Player comment:

The Palace defence looks nothing like the Pulis inspired defence and conceding 3 goals to West Ham is a very bad sign.  West Ham only scored 3 goals away once last season

Zarate was excellent but seems expensive at £6.4m

Southampton 0 WBA 0

Lineup:

Southampton (4-2-3-1): Forster 6.5; Clyne 5.5, Yoshida 4.5, Jose Fonte 5, Bertrand 5; Wanyama 5, Schneiderlin 6; S Davis 5 (Long 46 5), Ward-Prowse 5.5 (Cork 78), Tadic 6; Pelle 5.
Subs not used: K Davis, Gardos, Taider, Hooiveld, Isgrove.
Bookings: Clyne

West Brom (4-4-1-1): Foster 6; Wisdom 5, Dawson 6, Olsson 5, Pocognoli 5.5 (Davidson 59 5); Dorrans 5, Gardner 5, Mulumbu 6.5, Brunt 5; Berahino 5 (Sessegnon 89); Anichebe 5 (Ideye 52 6).
Subs not used: Myhill, Baird, Yacob, McAuley,
Bookings: Gardner, Brunt

Lineup comment:

Southampton went for 1 forward which meant both JWP and Davis started which must still create some uncertainty over position for either

Morrison didn’t make it so no question around the other midfielders

Player comment:

After last week eyes were on Tadic and Pelle.  Tadic was probably the best of the Southampton players but Pelle and the rest of the Saints team were poor.  Both look expensive at £7.5m.  Away to West Ham next will be an interesting test

Swansea 1 Burnley 0

Goal;  Dyer

Lineups:

Swansea (4-2-3-1): Fabianski 6.5; Rangel 6, Amat 6, Williams 6.5, Taylor 5.5; Ki 6, Shelvey 5; Dyer 7.5 (Montero 65, 6), Sigurdsson 6.5, Routledge 7 (Tiendalli 90); Bony 6.5 (Gomis 64).
Subs not used: Tremmel, Bartley, Richards, Sheehan.
Booked: Shelvey, Sigurdsson

Burnley (4-2-3-1): Heaton 6; Trippier 5, Shackell 6.5, Duff 5, Mee 4.5; Arfield 5.5, Jones 6 (Sordell 90), Marney 5.5, Taylor 6 (Wallace 70, 6); Jutkiewicz 5.5 (Barnes 81), Ings 6.5
Subs not used: Gilks, Kightly, Reid, Ward.
Booked: Duff

Lineup comment:

No surprises here.  Gomis didn’t start for Swansea so Siggy lined up centrally

Player comment:

Another excellent game from Siggy who could have scored but ended up with an assist.  Bony put the quiet game against United behind him and also had chances to score.

Ings and Jutkiewicz both did everything apart from score and Burnley looked threatening generally.  Despite the clean sheet the Swansea defence certainly didn’t look steady at all.  However home to WBA next week certainly has clean sheet potential

Everton 2 Arsenal 2

Goals Coleman Naismith  Ramsey Giroud

Everton: Howard, Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, McCarthy, Barry, Mirallas (Atsu 85),Naismith,Pienaar (Osman 10), Lukaku (McGeady 76).
Subs Not Used: Robles, Besic, Stones, Alcaraz.
Booked: Baines.

Arsenal: Szczesny, Debuchy, Chambers, Mertesacker, Monreal, Flamini, Oxlade-Chamberlain (Campbell 74), Ramsey, Wilshere (Cazorla 74), Ozil,Sanchez (Giroud 46).
Subs Not Used: Koscielny, Rosicky, Martinez, Bellerin.
Booked: Mertesacker, Wilshere, Chambers, Flamini.
Lineup comment:

Everton saw Distin start instead of Stones and Mirallas instead of McGeady.  Lukaku played on the right with Naismith central.

With Koscielny injured Chambers held his place after Mertesacker started.  Giroud not match fit meant Sanchez started as a striker.  The Ox started instead of Cazorla.

Player comment:

Giroud was the star and transformed the game when he came on.

Ramsey again showed the ability to score with limited chances and constantly got into the box

Sanchez did not succeed as a striker.

Naismith is 2 goals in 2 games and becomes another option for 3-5-2 although Evertons games are extremely difficult.
