fantasy premier league GW20 player picks by Rob Reid (The FPL Vet)

Hi and welcome to Gameweek 20 Player Picks. For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.

Player categories

One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.

One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.

One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!

I’ll keep a tally each week of how things are going – I’ll analyse the Banker over 4 GWs, the other 2 will just be on a weekly basis. Wish me luck and here goes!

Gameweek 19 Review

GW16 Banker – Eden Hazard

GW16 – 2 points
GW17 – 3 points (midfield clean sheet)
GW18 – 6 points (1 assist, midfield clean sheet)
GW19 – 3 points (midfield clean sheet) 3 out of 4 blanks now has owners wary, he’s a lot of money for little returns. Morata’s return for GW20 should see him return to his more effective role behind the main striker.

GW17 Banker – David De Gea

GW17 – 11 points (clean sheet, 2 save points, 3 bonus points)
GW18 – 3 points (1 save point)
GW19 – 1 point (1 goal conceded) Another sloppy defensive display from United. With Smalling possibly injured as Well, owners will be carefully monitoring this downturn in defensive form.

GW18 Banker – Nicolas Otamendi

GW18 – 1 point (1 goal conceded, yellow card)
GW19 – 7 points (clean sheet, 1 bonus point) A tidy defensive display no doubt helped by the returning Kompany. A handy bonus point as well. Another favourable fixture against Newcastle this week

GW19 – Laurent Depoitre

GW19 – 9 points (1 goal, 3 bonus points) A good start to his Banker stint with Huddersfield showing their resilience. It’s Stoke at home next and the Frenchman will surely fancy his chances against the leaky Potters defence.

GW19 Ace – Sergio Aguero

16 points (2 goals, 1 assist, 3 bonus points)  – A bumper haul for the FPL favourite rewarding both long-standing patient managers and those who gambled on bringing him in for Morata. Game time might be a worry this week but City do have an extra day’s rest.

GW19 Joker – Angelo Ogbonna

1 point (3 goals conceded) A surprisingly lacklustre display from the recently solid Hammers. Hopefully this is something they can remedy prior to their upcoming double gameweek.

Gameweek 20 Picks

Banker – Mo Salah (LIV £10m) SWA

A second banker stint for the massively owned Egyptian and for good reason. He’s got struggling managerless Swansea up next and will be heavily backed as captain. Friday’s 10 pointer was his 8th double digit return this season, incredible form. If you don’t own him why?!

Ace – Alvaro Morata (CHE £10.6m) – BRI

Fresh back from suspension, he should be chomping at the bit for a favourable home game against the Seagulls. Chelsea haven’t been the most convincing in previous weeks but are great when they fire and Morata will be keen to get in the goals after netting the winner in the Carabao Cup last week.

Joker – Jessie Lingard (MAN – £6m) – BUR

2 returns in the last 2 despite United being a bit inconsistent of late. Burnley have Tarkowski and likely Ward out and were torn apart by Spurs in GW19. Lingard is a good value asset in a premium team and could be in the points again this week.

That’s it from me on Player Picks – best of luck this week everyone and a very Merry Christmas to you all!
