FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW21 TIPS – ANALYSING 10 TOP FPL MANAGERS

Here’s our regular feature where we analyse the teams of 10 top FPL managers who in the last 3 seasons none have finished outside the top 10k. The top 10 Managers have played 30 times in the last 3 years and none have finished outside the top 10k in that time. Considering how variable the last 3 years have been this is remarkable consistency and shows an ability to adapt strategy in different seasons. It also gives you a view other than my own on strategy and player selection. A mixed week with 6 of the 10 having green arrows.

GAMEWEEK SUMMARY

A mixed week for the top 10 FPL managers. 6 of the 10 had green arrows.

The average score of the managers in GW20 was 60 compared to the average of 49. Thats 11 points and 22% above the average score. The high score of the 10 was 87. The low score was 43. A very high spread of 44 for the gameweek.

The average overall rank of the top 10 FPL managers stayed steady at 300k compared to the last gameweek of 299k. A worsening of rank of 1k. The best rank is 100 and the lowest 954k. A couple of scores are distorting the average. If you calculated the median rank then that is improved to 146k compared to 173k last gameweek. An improvement of rank of 27k. At the moment 3 have overall ranks inside 100k. 1 is inside the top 10k.

The average value is steady at £104.8m slightly down from £104.9m last gameweek

If you’re interested my score was a poor one of 46. Only 1 of the managers had a worse gameweek score. My overall rank is now 432k compared to 348k last gameweek. A worsening of rank of 84k. I’m still only ahead of 2 of the top 10 managers. My team value is low though in comparison at £102.1m down slightly from £102.4m last gameweek. My total score is 1025 points.

COMPARISON WITH THE TOP 10K

Here’s a comparison with the how the top 10k overall rank average team looks like. The information is provided by the excellent site FPL discovery.

The top 10k average score was 58 compared to the Top FPL managers of 60.

The top 10 fpl managers I follow have some big differences (30% difference is the benchmark) with the top 10k rank. Here are the main ones:

The top 10k favour the following significantly more than the managers I follow:

None

The 10 Managers I follow favour the following more significantly than the top 10k

Foster Pickford, Heaton, Alonso, Amat, Holebas  Ibrahimovic, and Sigurdsson

FOCUS ON 1 MANAGERS TEAM

Again we focus on the managers team who last season finished the highest of my then top 10 FPL managers ending up in 1,400th position. This manager is the closest thing to a fantasy football celebrity there is due to his consistent results so we’ll keep an eye on him. At present he is in 108k overall rank an improvement  in rank from the last gameweek of 27k. His total points are 1077 after a good score of this gameweek.. Just to give you a bit of context his last 3 years overall rankings have been 1,450, 277 and 90.

He has 2 transfers this week so not sure what he’ll be doing

THE HIGHEST SCORING AND LOWEST SCORING MANAGERS IN GW20

Highest scorer

This guy is totally on fire.  An 87 takes him to just outside the top 100.  He is an interesting case.  He’s had Alli for sometime and Baines recently was obviously an inspirational pick

Lowest scorer

a low score of 43 taking him to around 322k

This is one case where the teams are quite different.

There were 43 points difference between the 2 teams. 16 of those were in defence. 3 players made a difference of 28 points incredibly.  14 was Alli over Lallana, 5 Siggy over Can and 9 Lukaku over Costa.

Again defence makes a difference and a few players in the attacking team.

TOP 10 MANAGERS COMBINED TEAM

Here’s a team to represent the top 10 managers. Those highlighted are where it’s different to my team. It’s unaffordable at around £106m.

Here’s the core team of players owed by more than 50% of the FPL managers

As you can see there’s only 6 and one of them is a benchwarmer.  That means there are alot of variable gaps to fill.  This with the variable captain choices we’ve seen explains the wide range of scores and ranks

I am no longer buying into owning both Hazard and Sanchez. It’s been rather disappointing owning both of them, usually when they were in a lull and not producing, only to be lured back by big returns. For the combined 22.0 I am beginning to think I am better off with a more well rounded stating XI. Obviously sticking with 4 big guns; Hazard, Sanchez, Costa and Zlatan has really been productive, especially in the midfield. Up front is another story, I don’t see transferring either out anytime soon. But my midfield is soon to be overhauled.

Not sure if Spurs will entice me enough to pick up both Eriksen and Alli, now that I have missed the price increases, they along with Lallana would be three of the new midfielders I would introduce along with Phillips or Cabaye and Stanislaus.

I am a bit torn at not having Arsenal coverage and with my budget I fall short to get Giroud. Iwobi is too much of a rotation risk, which leaves Chamberlin, another rotation risk of Xhaka, who’s only returned a goal and assist all year.

My other concern, doubling up on WBA and Bournemouth. BOU has 3 good fixtures but the schedule is mixed during the following 6 weeks. Rode WBA much of the earlier part of the year with Foster and McAuley, but both dropped out of favor, after Spurs 5 out of the next 8 weeks appear to be worthwhile match ups.
