bandwagons and sinking ships, Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW22 article where we outline and give a view on the most transferred in players so far in the gameweek (the bandwagons) and the most transferred out (the sinking ships). There’s a table of stats on each as well as some narrative on their prospects and their next 6 fixtures

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW22 – THE BANDWAGONS AND SINKING SHIPS

THE BANDWAGONS

These are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek. The fixt ease column shows the easeiness ranking of the next 6/3 fixtures. See the full article on fixture ease. Values are as per Wednesday.

* Alonso is Chelsea’s clean sheet odds

HARRY KANE

If anything is going to make you the most transferred in player of the gameweek it’s going to be a hat trick as the Spurs striker managed against WBA in GW21.  6 goals in his last 4 games and 9 returns in 16 games shows his form and consistency.  He’s also got good underlying shooting stats, has pens and unless Spurs are well ahead pretty much always plays 90 minutes.  Tricky fixture next though even in Man Citys current form

Sunderland (A)
Middlesbrough (H)
Liverpool (A)
Stoke (H)
Everton (H)

LUKAKU

Scored in Everton’s 4-0 thrashing of Man City.  It’s now 3 goals and an assist in his last 4 games.  Been relatively consistent too with returns in 10/20 games this season.  Underlying stats are ok if not exceptional.  A guaranteed 90 minute player who is the attacking focal point of the team.  Excellent fixtures and now is the time to buy if you’re planning on it.

Stoke (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Sunderland (H)

ALONSO

2 goals as a defender is a rarity and is going to get you into the most transferred  in players list.  In addition, with Chelsea being the best defensive team in my view and Alonso being one of the most attacking wing backs in the league then you have a pretty decent combination.  The performance and Ake not even being in the 18 was a big boost to future his gametime prospects.  Hull next is a good time to buy even if the 2 after that are the worst 2 defensive prospects in the league

Hull (H)
Liverpool (A)
Arsenal (H)
Burnley (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)

COUTINHO

Liverpool LAM mid Coutinho is just coming back from an injury and has 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 4 starts before he got his injury. Before the injury he had become a 90 minute player and has 5 goals and 6 assists over the season.  He also has  good shooting and creating chances underlying stats and set piece responsibility.  Played 30 minutes as a sub in GW21.  Should have enough fitness to start in GW22 against Hull.  It’s just whether the midweek EFL semi to follow with Liverpool trailing will see his minutes curtailed as it maybe prioritised.  It’s hard not to think though that home to Swansea has to be a great time to buy

Swansea (H)
Chelsea (H)
Hull (A)
Spurs (H)
Leicester (A)
Arsenal (H)

DELE ALLI

The Spurs CAM is a great example of an attacking midfielder who has a great ability to get into the box and score goals.  Although his underlying shooting stats for the season have only been ok they have been excellent recently and seen him score 7 goals and an assist in his last 5 games.  Is susceptible to being subbed early.  Tricky fixture next even in Man City’s current form

Man City (A)
Sunderland (A)
Middlesbrough (H)
Liverpool (A)
Stoke (H)
Everton (H)

THE SINKING SHIPS

These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek. The fixt ease column shows the easeiness ranking of the next 6/3 fixtures. See the full fixture ease article where the teams with the best fixtures are ranked. Values are as of Wednesday

*Ake odds are for a clean sheet but it does assume he starts

COSTA

This isn’t about his form or returns.  Only Harry Kane, as a forward, has better points per match than the Chelsea forward.  No FPL player has a higher % of games with a goal or assist than the Chelsea player.

This is about the current saga around whether he is injured or if he’s on strike to force a lucrative move to China.  Whatever the reason there doesn’t seem to be significant doubt as to whether he will play in GW22. With Hull next I may have waited to later in the week to see if there was any further developments but that depends on your view of value as his price will fall during the week

Hull (H)
Liverpool (A)
Arsenal (H)
Burnley (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)

AKE

The £4.3m Chelsea defender who was out on a successful loan to Bournemouth was recalled ostensibly as cover for Alonso who had a minor but deteriorating injury.  Ake didn’t make the 18 in GW21 and Alonso scored twice in an emphatic Leicester win.

That has to really put question marks over Ake’s ability to get any serious gametime and sales in that context aren’t surprising although Hull next is a good clean sheet prospect if he does start

Hull (H)
Liverpool (A)
Arsenal (H)
Burnley (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)

LALLANA

The Liverpool box to box midfielder is a surprising choice to be sold given that it’s Swansea next although I guess a number could be a straight swap for Coutinho. It’s 1 goal and 1 assist in the last 5 which is nothing to write home about.  He also doesn’t really have any underlying stats which isn’t unusual for a box to box player but his season returns of 8 returns in 19 games is ok for the price.

Swansea (H)
Chelsea (H)
Hull (A)
Spurs (H)
Leicester (A)
Arsenal (H)

ZAHA

The Crystal Palace RAM is at AFCON for his country of birth the Ivory Coast. In his absence Palace seemed to play a 4-3-3 with Townsend and Puncheon flanking Benteke.  McArthur and Cabaye were then positioned centrally in front of Ledley as the CDM.   Palace have good fixtures but none of them have any form to speak of.

Everton (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Sunderland (H)
Stoke (A)
Middlesbrough (H)
West Brom (A)

CAPOUE

The Watford CM was the early season favourite cheapie mid. It’s no goal or assist in his last 9 or 1 goal in his last 15. No underlying stats and plays in a fairly deep position. If you’re just looking for someone cheap to sit on your bench then De Roon is better value at £4.4m and has more attacking prospects.  Very mixed fixtures are no bonus

Bournemouth (A)
Arsenal (A)
Burnley (H)
Man Utd (A)
West Ham (H)
Southampton (H)
