Fantasy premier league GW22  – “ones to watch” best defenders/GKs

I’ve tried to balance out attacking potential vs the premium price you pay for that player rather than just going for the attacking player automatically.  The attack vs value decision is really a matter of personal choice so in the narrative I talk about both options.   I’ve put together a table of stats with a key below it to rank the 10 best defenders.  Below that I’ve put some narrative on each player plus their next 6 fixtures.   I’ll also try and talk about the GK option.

Key:

Last 5 games:  Clean sheets in the last 5 fixtures

Mins per FPL point:  How long it takes a player to earn an FPL point.  The lower the better obviously

Goals/Assist;  Goals/Assists so far in the season

CS – H/A:  The clean sheets so far this season.  Home/Away

Fixture ease:  The easiness of the next 6/(3) fixtures.  Done from an attacking point of view but does give an indication of fixture ease

Top 10 FPL managers own:  How many of the 10 top FPL managers I follow have the player in the team

Terry

There’s no doubt Chelsea with Southampton have the best defence in the league.  Terry for value over Ivanovic.  The GK Courtois is injured but too expensive for a GK anyway.

Next 6 fixtures:

Swansea (A)
Man City (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Everton (H)
Burnley (H)
Leicester (A)

Bertrand

Southampton are an excellent defensive team especially at home.  With Alderweireld injured there’s no cheap option.  Forster is a reasonable option £5.5 option as a 1 stop GK.

Newcastle (A)
Swansea (H)
QPR (A)
West Ham (H)
Liverpool (H)
West Brom (A)

Kompany

The problem with Kompany out is rotation.  However Komapny is so crucial to their defence that he should be relatively safe.  However injury is his enfored rotation.  Everyone else is rotatable including the GK.  2 tricky fixtures next so now may not be the best time to buy

Arsenal (H)
Chelsea (A)
Hull (H)
Stoke (A)
Newcastle (H)
Liverpool (A)

Koscielny

No cheap option with Debuchy and some doubt over whether Chambers or Bellerin will play RB.  Gibbs is good value and should play LB although he is rotatable with Monreal.  New GK Ospina is good value at £4.8m if he can hold his spot

Man City (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Spurs (A)
Leicester (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Everton (H)

Jones

Man Utd have a reasonable home defence record and CB Jones is as good value as anyone.  No real attacking premium player or value.  De Gea is a little expensive in comparison at £5.8m.  Good fixtures

QPR (A)
Leicester (H)
West Ham (A)
Burnley (H)
Swansea (A)
Sunderland (H)

Wisdom

The Pulis effect has started for WBA albeit against a strikerless Hull.  Baird having started at LB is a potential £3.9m bargain if he could hold his place.  Lescott is probably the best attacking option at £4.9m

Everton (A)
Spurs (H)
Burnley (A)
Swansea (H)
Sunderland (A)
Southampton (H)

Cameron

Another cheapie in a Stoke side that should be doing better given the underlying stats.  Cameron is the cheapie option.  There’s no real premium attacking option.  GK Begovic is more expensive in comparison.

Leicester (A)
QPR (H)
Newcastle (A)
Man City (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Hull (H)

Van Aanholt

A lack of striking options has meant a very defensive approach from Sunderland which has seen a excellent clean sheet return.  Whether that will change with Defoe joining remains to be seen.  LB Van Aanholt is probably the cheapest and the best attacking option.  GK Pantilimon is one of the better  cheap GK options

Spurs (A)
Burnley (H)
Swansea (A)
QPR (H)
West Brom (H)
Man Utd (A)

Mee

The Burnley LB is the cheapie choice and Trippier the attacking option although with an injury doubt.  GK Heaton is ok value at £4.6m

Crystal Palace (H)
Sunderland (A)
West Brom (H)
Man Utd (A)
Chelsea (A)
Swansea (H)

Kelly

Palace have got some fixtures which give some clean sheet hope.  Kelly is the cheap option and Dan at £4.9m the attacking option.  GK Speroni is not too bad an option at £4.8m

Burnley (A)
Everton (H)
Leicester (A)
Newcastle (H)
Arsenal (H)
West Ham (A)
