FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW23 PLAYER RANKINGS – BEST DEFENCES AND DEFENDERS

THE BEST VALUE AND ATTACKING DEFENDERS

So here’s the table. Effectively I’ve ranked the defences taking into account their defensive stats strength. Added to the table is the rank of easiness of the upcoming next 6 fixtures. Use this link to see the full article on fixture ease. I’ve then given you the best value defender and the best attacking defender. Values are as of Wednesday. If you’re interested in what the top 10 FPL managers I follow have as defenders use this link.  Also you need to consider whether it’s worth waiting for the FA Cup fixtures to be over so the blank gameweeks become clearer.  See my FPL calendar for this.

BEST TRANSFERS

Looking at the optimum combination of strong defence at an appropriate value, good fixtures and good odds then the best transfers for this gameweek are

Jones Man Utd £5.0m

Yoshida Southampton £4.2m

Brunt WBA £5.0m

Rose Spurs £6.1m

Again I’m personally waiting until after the FA Cup games to see the effect of those results on the blank gameweeks

A FEW COMMENTS

Value punts and gametime issues

Bournemouth – Just need to see how Francis coming back affects the team to decide on a cheapie.

Spurs:  – Getting a cheapie in is difficult at the moment.  Vertonghen isn’t back to March so there is another CB spot.  A back 4 will see Dier who’s a midfielder in FPL and a back 5 could still see either £4.6m Wimmer or £4.7m Davies as Wimmer was subbed fairly early on in GW22 which can’t help his place.

Sunderland – £5.0m LWB Van Aanholt is surprisingly linked with Palace which needs to be assessed the impact as LWB Schlupp has also just joined.  RB Jones at £4.4m is probably the cheapie but could do with seeing he starts the next couple of games.

Man City:  Just impossible to guess who will play consistently at the moment apart from the GK Bravo

Everton:  Holgate £4.1m and Funes Mori £4.6m both Everton – both are good value and Holgate started GW21 and GW22 but still remains a rotation risk. Funes Mori has started 7 of the last 9 and all of the last 3 but is liable to come on in the last few minutes if he is rotated

West Ham:  Young £4.2m Sam Byram started at RB and is worth monitoring as a cheapie.  Still to early for any gametime security.

Injuries

2 players who could have been in their teams attacking column are Liverpool RB Clyne, Southampton’S CB Van Dijk are both injury risks for GW23

Form comments

I’ve based the schedule on stats but here’s a few comments on recent form

It’s worth noting that both Swansea and especially Hull have shown some defensive improvement recently.  Middlesboro have had 2 bad defensive performances which need monitoring.

Liverpool conceded 3 against Swansea which is always going to get alot of criticism.  The game was symptomatic of their season errors and set pieces but they do have some strong underlying stats so I think there are some reasons to think things could improve.

Everton have shown strong recent defensive improvement with their 3-5-1-1 formation.

Burnley continue to show good home and terrible away form.
