FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW24 – THE BANDWAGONS AND SINKING SHIPS

BACKGROUND

Postponed in GW26

Southampton v Arsenal
Man City v Man Utd

These are related to the clubs that are in the EFL final and will have their fixtures postponed.

Those certain of fixtures in GW28

Bournemouth v West Ham
Everton v WBA
Hull v Swansea

These are the fixtures where both clubs are out of the FA Cup and therefore their fixtures should stand in GW28 while others could potentially be postponed depending on 5th round results

THE BANDWAGONS

These are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek. The fixt ease column shows the easiness ranking of the next 4 fixtures to GW27.  Thats due to the distortion that the potential mass postponements for the FA Cup quarters in GW28 could bring.   See the full article on this weeks fixture ease. Values are as per Thursday.

Colemans stats is a clean sheet odds stat

GABRIEL JESUS

Man City have a blank in GW26 and are likely to have a blank in GW28 with their 5th round FA Cup fixture away to Huddersfield

There’s no doubt that his performance against Spurs and West Ham was absolutely fantastic.  As was his performance against an albeit under strength Palace team in the FA Cup.  However it’s only 1 starting appearance against one of the worst defences in the league.  He is Brazils CF but he’s only 19 and the premier league sometimes needs an adjustment period.  He also maybe have managed minutes by Guardiola and his understudy is one of the best premier league strikers ever.  However the fixtures are fantastic apart from the blank and potential blank and it has been a very impressive start.  There are also 3 competitions that Man City are competing in with an already rotation minded manager.

Swansea (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Blank GW26
Sunderland (A)

COLEMAN

Everton have a guaranteed fixture in GW26 and GW28 (West Brom (H) .

Coleman certainly helped his case against Stoke in GW23 in the battle of him vs Baines.  3 very good fixtures next.  4 clean sheets in the last 6 and 3 consecutive attacking returns is a pretty amazing stat and with the good fixtures and the guaranteed GW28 a Everton defender is a good bet.

Bournemouth (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Sunderland (H)
Spurs (A)

ZAHA

C Palace have a guaranteed GW26 game.  Their GW28 fixtures is home to  Spurs who will have a tricky FA Cup game away to Fulham as Spurs will definitely rotate.

The Palace RAM is back from AFCON.  He plays in a very advanced position and always looks lively as he did against Bournemouth.   However you can’t ignore it’s 1 goal in the last 6 only.  There’s also no underlying stats to give you hope that this will change.  Fixtures are good

 Sunderland (H)
Stoke (A)
Middlesbrough (H)
West Brom (A)

COSTA

Chelsea have a guaranteed fixture in GW26.  They face Wolves away in the FA Cup 5th round who Liverpool lost to.  However I would back them to win and then have a blank GW28

£10.4m forward Costa unfortunately blotted his copy book by missing a late penalty in the  draw with Liverpool.  So instead of 3 goals in his last 4 it’s 2.  However he has been the model of consistency returning a goal or assist in 16/21 games this season. Great underlying stats back that up as no fluke either.  Even with Arsenals defensive frailties it’s a tricky fixture next to buy him in

Arsenal (H)
Burnley (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)

MANE

Liverpool have a fixture in GW26.   Their home fixture to Burnley in GW28 depends on Burnley losing to Lincoln City in the FA Cup which is unthinkable

Mane has that ability to get behind teams with his pace and stretch the game so his return from AFCON is of benefit to the team as well.  2 goals in his last 4 before AFCON and he is a 90 minute player.  Not much in the way of underlying stats though. Mixed fixtures.

Hull (A)
Spurs (H)
Leicester (A)
Arsenal (H)

THE SINKING SHIPS

These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek. The fixt ease column shows the easiness ranking of the next 4 fixtures to GW27.  Thats due to the distortion that the potential mass postponements for the FA Cup quarters in GW28 could bring.   See the full article on this weeks fixture ease. Values are as per Thursday.

GIROUD

Arsenal have a blank in GW26 and with Sutton their opponents in the FA Cup 5th round then they are almost certain to have a blank GW28

So likely blanks in GW26 and GW28 plus Chelsea away next it’s hard to believe that if you’re ever going to sell him there will be a better time than now. 2 consecutive blanks and a 45 minute substitution against Watford and it starts to get even more compelling.  Also while the season underlying stats have been strong his recent ones have dropped off.

Chelsea (A)
Hull (H)
Southampton (A)
Liverpool (A)

DANIELS

Bournemouth have a fixture in GW26.  Bournemouth have a guaranteed fixture in GW28

A tricky one this.  One the one hand he has a guaranteed fixture home to West Ham in GW28 when there could be massive blanks but he’s quite expensive with very difficult fixtures at the moment. No clean sheet in the last 4 doesn’t help either.  It may come down to how desperate you are to fill GW28

Everton (A)
Man City (H)
West Brom (A)
Man Utd (A)

LALLANA

Liverpool have a fixture in GW26.   Their home fixture to Burnley in GW28 depends on Burnley losing to Lincoln City in the FA Cup which is unthinkable.

It’s now 4 consecutive blanks with fixtures against Swansea and Sunderland within that.  He’s also never had any underlying stats on which to point towards a revival either.  Returned a goal or assist in 8/21 games.

Hull (A)
Spurs (H)
Leicester (A)
Arsenal (H)

IBRAHIMOVIC

Manchester United have a blank in GW26 and you’d have to back them to best Blackburn away in the FA Cup to give them a blank in GW28

You get a goal or assist in 6 consecutive games and then blank in 2 and you get sold without mercy it seems. There is some justification with the potential 2 blanks.  However he could have had a hat trick easily against Hull and his underlying shooting stats continue to hold up.  The fixtures though are good apart from the blanks

Leicester (A)
Watford (H)
Blank GW26
Bournemouth (H)

VAN DIJK

Southampton have no fixture in GW26 and their GW28 opponent Man Utd play Blackburn away so a blank looks likely

Van Dijk is out injured for 2-3 months according to his manager. His previous CB partner Fonte has now left for West Ham.  That leaves the partnership as being £4.2m Yoshida and £4.0m Stephens.  However the manager has also said that LB Bertrand is also a CB option which would probably see Stephens taken out of the side.  The question is how much defensive solidity is left with the 2 CBs gone.  Certainly the 5 goals against by Arsenal and 2 from Swansea suggest that there has been an impact
