FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW25 REVIEW – SATURDAYS GAMES

ARSENAL 2 HULL CITY O

Sanchez.

2 goals.  1 was a pen.  90 mins.  CF  Played as the lone striker.  Goal should have been ruled out for hand ball and the other was a pen but he was a constant menace and should have had more

Ozil.

Blanked.  90 mins.  CAM.  Although seemed to pop up advanced wide on the left.  Not much direct threat but involved early in both goals.

Markovic

Blanked.  90 mins.  RAM  A very impressive performance.  Very quick on the counter and played quite forward waiting for the transition.  Niasse should have been in a better position to finish a close in cross of Markovic’s

Grosicki

Blanked.  59 mins.  LAM  With Markovic the most advanced midfielder and joined Markovic on the counter.  1 cross for a Niasse header but otherwise little threat

Defences

Arsenal had most of the chances by far but Hull were also dangerous primarily on the counter attack

MAN UTD 2 WATFORD 0

Ibrahimovic

1 assist.  90 mins.  CF.  Another game when it was hard to imagine how he didn’t score.  The 1 assist did not reflect, again, the chances he had.  3 really good chances to score including a header inside the 6 yard box which hit Gomes.  Hold up play was brilliant and no surprise he got an assist which was a brilliant first time touch to Martial on the counter.

Mkhitaryan

Blanked.  88 mins.  CAM.  Wasn’t always as further forward as you would have liked with Mata and Martial often ahead of him.  Had 1 real clear cut chances when Ibrahimovic put him through 1 on 1 with Gomes which Gomes saved

Deeney

Blanked.  90 mins.  CF.  Starved of service and did nothing

Defences

Man Utd were always in control and Watford had few chances with Man Utd having many

SUNDERLAND 0 SOUTHAMPTON 4

Defoe

Blanked.  90 mins CF.  No service, did absolutely nothing

Gabbiadini

2 goals.  72 mins.  CF.  1st goal basically just him him and went in from a cross and the 2nd Kone just watched him turn and go past him from close in.  Could have had more though.

Defences

Southampton defended well after some difficult games.  Sunderland were terrible again

One to watch

Man Utd LWM Martial and RAM Mata need to get some consistent starts.  Martial got a goal and an assist and Mata scored but Mata has only started the last 2 and this was Martials 1st start for a while.  Get through the GW26 and GW28 blanks first

STOKE 1 C PALACE 0

Arnautovic

Blanked.   90 mins.  One good chance when put through by a Crouch header but apart from that did little

Crouch

Blanked 90 mins.  CF.  Little direct attacking threat

Benteke

Blanked.  90 mins.  CF.  Did nothing

Zaha

Blanked.  90 mins.  RAM.  Did nothing

Defences

Stoke gave very little away.  Palace didn’t defend well and gave away a greater number of chances

MIDDLESBOROUGH 0 EVERTON 0

Here’s the Everton pass and position map.  These are from the excellent 11tegen11 site

Lukaku

Blanked.  CF.  90 mins.  Missed a 1 on 1 with the GK.  Other than that did little

Barkley

Blanked.  CAM.  86 mins.  Seemed more advanced than usual.  Set up a great chance for Lookman for a 1 on 1 which Valdes saved.  However disappointing lack of goal threat

Negredo

Blanked.  CF.  90 mins.  May as well have not bothered. Did absolutely nothing.

Defences

Both defences played well although Everton definitely had the best chances

One to watch

Everton LAM Lookman.  Impressed with 2 good chances to score but has only started twice and both only for 70 odd minutes.  Needs monitoring

WEST HAM 2 WBA 2

Here’s the West Ham pass and position map

Antonio

Blanked.  90 mins.  CF.  So close to scoring after heading a corner out of Fosters hands and then airshoting what would have been an open goal.  Otherwise didn’t have much threat.

Snodgrass

Blanked.  86 mins.  CAM.  Good proportion of set pieces.  Created a ton of chances.  Unlucky not to get an assist.

Phillips

Blanked.  66 mins.  RAM.  Very advanced but did very little.

Morrison

1 assist.  78 mins.  CAM.  A very basic short pass assist for Chadli.  Otherwise quiet.

Rondon

Blanked.  90 mins.  CF.  Hit the bar with a volley from just outside the box (assisted by Phillips).  That was pretty much it.

Defences

Neither defence performed well to be fair but West Ham had the most chances.

Ones to watch

West Ham’s LAM Lanzini and RAM Feghouli got a goal and assist each.  This was really the Lanzini and Feghouli show.  Both were results of Lanzini shooting from distance which isn’t always productive.  I suspect one won’t be in the front 3 AM’s though when Carroll returns.  Needs monitoring.  If Chadli could get some decent minutes under his belt before his routine substitution he would also be an option.

LIVERPOOL 2 SPURS 2

Here’s the Spurs pass and position map

Firmino

1 assist.  90 mins.  CF.  The assist came from a block/save from Lloris which bounced to Mane. No clear goal threat

Coutinho

Blanked.  76 mins.  LAM.  Should really have scored 2 on the counter but poor shots from quite close in spoiled it

Mane

2 goals.  90 mins.  RAM.  Was absolutely sensational.  The guys pace is frightening.  Could have so easily have a 3rd when 1 on 1 with Lloris.  Davies will be having nightmares for weeks.  Great finishes in both instances.

Lallana

Blanked.  90 mins.  CM.  Does get forward very well especially on the counter.  Had the chance to score as part of the Mane 2nd goal melee

Kane

Blanked.  90 mins.  CF.  Ht the post from an offside position other than that did nothing

Alli

Blanked.  90 mins.  CAM.  Did very little except try to get a yellow card.  Son in the team seems to have pushed him back somewhat

Eriksen

Blanked.  67 mins.  RAM.  Set pieces.  A couple of shots but no real threat

Son

Blanked.  81 mins.  LAM.  His movement in behind defences is the key.  Should have scored when 1 on 1 with Mignolet.
