Fantasy premier league GW26 – “ones to watch” best defenders/GKs

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s our fantasy premier league article where we rank the best defenders and GK’s for GW26.  There’s a table of stats plus some narrative and the next 6 fixtures to help you make your decision.  Plus we look at a range of alternatives in the team depending on value and attacking ability.  We also look at the GK option in the team

I’ve tried to balance out attacking potential vs the premium price you pay for that player rather than just going for the attacking player automatically.     I’ve put together a table of stats with a key below it to rank the 10 best defenders.  Below that I’ve put some narrative on each player plus their next 6 fixtures.   I’ll also try and talk about the GK option.

Key:

Last 5 games:  Clean sheets in the last 5 fixtures

Mins per FPL point:  How long it takes a player to earn an FPL point.  The lower the better obviously

Goals/Assist;  Goals/Assists so far in the season

CS – H/A:  The clean sheets so far this season.  Home/Away

Fixture ease:  The easiness of the next 6/(3) fixtures.  Done from an attacking point of view but does give an indication of fixture ease

Top 10 FPL managers own:  How many of the 10 top FPL managers I follow have the player in the team

Ivanovic

With Southampton by far and away the best defence in the league and a potential DGW28 coming up.  Only Terry and Ivanovic are nailed on in the Chelsea defence.  Ivanovic has the best attacking stats but is £0.5m more.  GK Courtois hasn’t even got a secure place and is 17th in points per game for GKs.  Still a possible DGW28 after a blank GW27.  Or a DGW later.

Burnley (H)
– Gameweek 27 –
West Ham (A)
Southampton (H)
Hull (A)
Stoke (H)

Clyne

With Bertrand still suspended and Alderweireld not fit the only options are Clyne and Fonte.  Neither of whom is cheap.  GK Forster at £5.6m is an option and 4th in PPG for GKs

Liverpool (H)
West Brom (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
Burnley (H)
Everton (A)

Bellerin

The Arsenal defence has really started to perform with Koscielny back and Bellerin is an absolute bargain and too good value to consider anyone else.  He does however have some injury doubt for this GW and needs monitoring.  Ospina is great value as well at £4.8m but with some questionable performances can’t be secure in his gametime

Crystal Palace (A)
Everton (H)
QPR (A)
West Ham (H)
Newcastle (A)
Liverpool (H)

Zabaleta

Incredibly 8 games without a clean sheet despite good fixtures.  There are some good defensive underlying stats and the fixtures continue to be good so the clean sheets surely must arrive at some stage.  However the Champions League coming up means the rotation problems facing the defence will get even worse.  Even GK Hart isn’t safe

Newcastle (H)
Liverpool (A)
Leicester (H)
Burnley (A)
West Brom (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

Lescott

The Pulis effect with 3 clean sheets in 5 games since he became manager is well underway.  The problem is that Lescott and McAuley are the only safe options with the FBs being changed around.  GK Foster is a great option at £4.6m and has a £4.0m back up in Myhill.

Sunderland (A)
Southampton (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Stoke (H)
Man City (A)
QPR (H)

Moreno

Incredible to believe that Rodgers has turned the Liverpool defence around to the extent of 4 clean sheets in the last 5.  Moreno has started the last 7 and looks the best attacking option.  GK Mignolet is also an option at a similar price.  Fixtures are very difficult though

Southampton (A)
Man City (H)
Burnley (H)
Swansea (A)
Man Utd (H)
Arsenal (A)

Van Aanholt

A very popular cheapie with good attacking potential in a strong defensive side.  GK Pantilimon is the 3rd ranked GK in PPG at £4.6m and a great option.

West Brom (H)
Man Utd (A)
Hull (A)
Aston Villa (H)
West Ham (A)
Newcastle (H)

Naughton

Another good cheapie option (cheaper than anyone else in the Swansea defence)  in a team that seems to be able to achieve clean sheets.  Reasonable fixtures coming up.  GK Fabianski isn’t good value in comparison

Man Utd (H)
Burnley (A)
Spurs (A)
Liverpool (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Hull (H)

Rose

You may have seen my article on the Spurs defence in anticipation of DGW28 (although they have a blank in GW27). Vertonghen and Walker are more secure but far more expensive at around £5.9m.  Lloris at £5.6m is expensive at least compared to Rose.

West Ham (H)
– Gameweek 27 –
GW 28 Swansea (H)
GW 28 QPR (A)
Man Utd (A)
Leicester (H)
Burnley (A)

Wollscheid

Good value but the Stoke defence don’t have a great defensive record.  However at £4.5m he is good value.  GK Begovic isn’t too bad value at £4.8m

Aston Villa (A)
Hull (H)
Everton (H)
West Brom (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Chelsea (A)
