FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW27 PLAYER PICKS BY ROB REID (THE FPL VET)

Hi and welcome to Gameweek 27 Player Picks. For each gameweek, I’ll be picking out 3 players in distinct player selection categories.

One Banker – this will take form and the fixture ease schedule into account and is a player who I think is a must for the next few gameweeks and should provide a steady stream of points.

One Ace – a player who I think has a good chance of scoring big this week. I’ll take form, this weeks fixtures and the bookies odds into account here.

One Joker – a player who is a bit of punt but I think may surprise a few people. Might be a low ownership player, someone coming back from injury or just a bit of a gut feeling on my part – there will be no evidence base on this one!

Gameweek 26 Review

GW23 Banker – Matthew Ryan

GW23 – 1 point (2 goals conceded)

GW24 – 0 points (4 goals conceded)

GW25 – 2 points (1 goal conceded)

GW26 – 2 points (1 goal conceded) – A poor Banker stint for Ryan, but a good result for The Seagulls last weekend and a couple of favourable fixtures before things start to get really tricky. It’s a horror stretch from GW29 till the end of the season so GW28 is probably a good time to be moving assets on.

GW24 Banker – Sergio Aguero

GW24 – 17 points (3 goals, 3 bonus points)

GW25 – 6 points (1 goal)

GW26 – 2 points – heavily backed in the captaincy stakes last week, so it was disappointing to see him blank. City have had a rare week off to regroup this midweek so I’d expect them firing on all cylinders this week.

GW25 Banker – Riyad Mahrez

GW25 – 0 points (didn’t play)

GW26 – 0 points (didn’t play) – Left out again and future now looks to be elsewhere. I’d be selling ASAP if you own him.

GW26 Banker – Phil Jones

GW26 – 0 points (didn’t play) – Owners left cursing as Jones was (we think) rested for what looked like and indeed was a certain clean sheet against Huddersfield. We await the Man Utd press conference eagerly for GW27 news.

GW26 Ace – Pierre Emerick Aubameyang

6 points (1 goal) – A nice (albeit offside) goal to start his Arsenal career. Definitely one to watch as he rekindles his partnership with Mykhitaryan, this pair were prolific at Dortmund. Likely to have some double gameweeks on the horizon, though we need to watch Arsenal for a GW28 fixture – this will be blank if Man City are taken to an FA Cup replay by Wigan in a couple of weeks.

GW26 Joker – Jay Rodriguez

1 point – Only came on as a sub surprisingly and a tough fixture against Chelsea next. Owners will need to watch his gametime with Daniel Sturridge arriving at The Hawthorns on loan.

Gameweek 27 Picks

Banker – Mo Salah (LIV £10.4m) – sou

3 lovely fixtures coming up, before United in GW30. I guess the question over the next 3 weeks is not whether you own him, but whether you captain him as your overall ranking will drop every time he returns if he’s not wearing the armband. He also has the added bonus of a guaranteed GW31 fixture at home to Watford, where he will also be the standout captain choice. I guess the main question now is will he be first player to break the 300 FPL point barrier?

Ace – Kevin De Buyne (MCI £10.3m) – LEI

With managers all over Aguero and Sterling, it’s easy to forget about the 3rd highest points scorer in the game. He’s Mr Consistent with guaranteed gametime and a steady stream of returns and bonus points and City will be keen to bounce back after the disappointing draw at Turf Moor last weekend. I’m expecting some goals in this one!

Joker – Alfie Mawson (SWA £5.1m) – BUR

A few weeks ago if you talked about Swansea being the league’s form team, you’d have been given some very funny looks. Fast forward to now and new manager Carvalhal has transformed fortunes at The Liberty stadium. The Jacks pulled out of the choppy waters of the relegation zone last week and backed this up with an 8-1 thrashing of lower league Notts County in their midweek FA Cup Replay. I don’t think there will be many goals in their clash with low-scoring and stubborn Burnley, but Mawson has a good chance of a clean sheet as well as offering some threat from set pieces, not to mention some great fixtures on the horizon.

That’s it from me on Player Picks. Good luck this week everyone!
