FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW28 BUDGET MIDFIELDER TIPS – PLAYER RANKINGS

First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.

Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player and their next 6 fixtures.

This is the 3rd player rankings article. There’s a defenders player rankings article and a premium midfielder player rankings article . You may also find it interesting to see who the 10 top FPL managers I follow have and who the GW28 bandwagons are

STATS DEFINITIONS

Fixt Ease: The ease of the mentioned fixture range from an attacking perspective. See our GW28 fixture ease article.

Mins per FPL Pt. The amount of minutes a player takes to earn an FPL point. The shorter and obviously lower the number is the better

ATGS – the bookies anytime goalscoring odds for GW28.

xG and xA per 90 – the expected goals and assists per 90 minutes played from the better than excellent site understat.com. I’ve used the midfield underlying stats ranking for the top 100 midfielders in our expected goals article. You can see last weeks results in Joseph Crilleys GW27 review

THE SCHEDULE

Firstly I’d like to say it’s impossible to rank every cheap player but here’s a few.

Also it’s important to remember the context of your own team.  So for example if you’re planning on free hitting in GW31 and then wildcarding in GW32 you will only be interested in the next 3 fixtures and that will get you focusing on players in a different order than I’ve put them

Deulofeu

Difficult to assess as he’s only played 3 games with Watford.  2 away games were blanks and then there was the goal and assist in the 4-1 win at home against Chelsea.  The underlying stats in those 3 games were a bit mixed

Has taken up an attacking right sided position and the next 2 home games are very good.

Has a fixture in the blank GW31 but unfortunately away to Liverpool

Ward Prowse

The Southampton set piece man has suddenly become the favoured right sided attacking midfielder for the Saints.  Those last 7 games have seen 3 goals and 2 assists returning in 3 of those games.   Importantly in 5 of the 7 he’s lasted 90 minutes.  His underlying stats are pretty good for the price and they have been especially good in those recent fixtures.  He is also ok for bonus points collection.

The main criticism is that he hasn’t been that consistent, only returning in 5 of his 15 starts but as you see above that can be balanced by recent form

No fixture in GW31

Richarlison

The left sided attacking player for Watford started the season strongly and in total it’s a good picture for the price.  In 26 starts plus 1 sub appearance he’s scored 5 goals and 8 assists.  He’s returned a goal or assist in 12 of those 26 starts which is a good level of consistency again for the price.  His underlying stats for the season are especially strong.  The major blight over the season is the lack of bonus points.  To have only 4 bonus points when you’ve returned in 12 games is pretty dire.

There is a big however though to that season when viewed overall.  Everything seems to have gone wrong in the last 6 games.  He’s blanked in all 6 and his underlying stats have collapsed as well. Can he get it back.  He’s a young player in a demanding league so there could be a natural tailing off  due to that.  However the next 2 fixtures are good and give an opportunity to set himself back on the good path again

West Brom (H)
Arsenal (A)
Liverpool (A)
Bournemouth (H)

Gross

The Brighton CAM has alot of favourable aspects.  He has a good set piece representation, he plays in an attacking central position and he does have some good fixtures on the horizon.  He also has an incredible ability to get bonus points.  So far this season he’s got 20.  Only De Bruyne, Hazard and Salah have more as midfielders.  In fact on the 8 times he’s returned a goal or assist only once did that not see some sort of bonus.

So overall 25 starts and 2 sub appearances for 5 goals and 6 assists doesn’t look bad.  There are some serious however’s though.  He’s only returned a goal or assist in 8 of those 25 games and in the last 13 games he’s only returned twice.  While his underlying stats are reasonably good for the price he offers little goal threat and 3 of his 5 goals have been from outside the box.  Now we can assume De Bruyne can keep doing that.  Can we assume that Gross will?

No fixture in GW31

Shaqiri

Tough fixtures coming up for the right sided attacking midfielder are the main issue.  However if you’re just interested in him for the blank GW31 the fixture v Everton at home is good.

The fixtures are a shame as there are alot of positives.  He’s started 24 games plus 1 as sub scoring 6 goals and 6 assists.  He’s also played 90 minutes in the last 5 which have seen 2 goals in the last 2 games plus 1 assist thrown in there.

Unusually at this price he’s been reasonable consistent returning a goal or assist in 11 of those 24 games and accruing a very respectable 14 bonus points

Leicester (A)
Southampton (A)
Man City (H)
Everton (H)
Arsenal (A)
Spurs (H)

Albrighton

The Leicester left sided midfielder has made 23 starts plus 4 as sub and scored 2 goals and 6 assists.  He’s been pretty inconsistent though only returning a goal or assist in 7 of those 23 starts.  His underlying stats are also pretty ordinary with little goal threat and look very poor in recent matches.

On the positive side he’s started the last 10 and played 90 minutes in 8 of those so at least you’re getting good minutes to have a chance of returns.  The upcoming fixtures are also excellent

No GW31 fixture

Izquierdo

The Brighton left sided midfielder has been eased into the premier league but has played 90 minutes in the alst 3 and scored in the last 2.

It’s 13 starts overall and 9 as sub scoring 4 goals and 2 assists.  His returned in 5 games in total which is a pretty low ratio for 13 starts.

His underlying stats are ok but pretty patchy and rather bolstered by his 2 assist match v Bournemouth.

Pretty good fixtures if no game in GW31

Swansea (H)
Arsenal (H)
Everton (A)
Blank GW31
Leicester (H)
Huddersfield (H)

Ibe

The Bournemouth CAM/RAM has come to the fore in starting the last 10 games for Bournemouth playing 90 minutes in 6 of those games.  He scored once and got 3 assists in those games and has produced some decent underlying stats for the price.  Does have competition and quite a tinkering prone manager.

Has a GW31 good fixture

Newcastle (H)
Leicester (A)
Spurs (H)
West Brom (H)
Watford (A)
Crystal Palace (H)

Tadic

Our favourite under performer returns to the frame mainly on the basis of some reasonably decent fixtures.  As is quite usual his underlying stats are quite promising but he never seems to quite deliver them.

He has blanked in his last 4 games although 2 were against Spurs and Liverpool. The last 3 of which have seen some pretty dire underlying stats.

Burnley (A)
Stoke (H)
Newcastle (A)
Blank GW31
West Ham (A)
Arsenal (A)

Choupo Moting

The Stoke attacking midfielder doesn’t play as a striker as he did earlier in the season and that has hurt his returns.  Over the season it’s 4 goals and 5 assists in 22 starts and 4 as sub.  However he’s only returned in 7 of those starts which is less than you’d hope for even for the price.

His recent form has been pretty ordinary too with 1 returning game in his last 7.

The only real positives is the blank GW31 game and he does still sprinkle his games with some good underlying stats

Leicester (A)
Southampton (A)
Man City (H)
Everton (H)
Arsenal (A)
Spurs (H)
