FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW28 FORWARDS TIPS – PLAYER RANKINGS

First it’s important to remember that each player is ranked as a transfer target for this week. So while we generally look at fixtures form and underlying stats a player who’s away to Man City is going to be ranked lower than someone home to Huddersfield for example. If possible a transfer should have a good fixture first up.

Firstly there’s a table of stats. Then there’s a bit of brief commentary on each player and their next 6 fixtures.

This is the 4th  player rankings article. There’s a defenders player rankings article  , a premium midfielder player rankings article and a budget midfielders article . You may also find it interesting to see who the 10 top FPL managers I follow have and who the GW28 bandwagons are

STATS DEFINITIONS

Fixt Ease: The ease of the mentioned fixture range from an attacking perspective. See our GW28 fixture ease article.

Mins per FPL Pt. The amount of minutes a player takes to earn an FPL point. The shorter and obviously lower the number is the better

ATGS – the bookies anytime goalscoring odds for GW28.  There are no odds for Man City so I’ve used the team to win stat.

xG and xA per 90 – the expected goals and assists per 90 minutes played from the better than excellent site understat.com. I’ve used the midfield underlying stats ranking for the top 100 midfielders in our expected goals article. You can see last weeks results in Joseph Crilleys GW27 review

THE SCHEDULE

It’s important to remember the context of your own team.  So for example if you’re planning on free hitting in GW31 and then wildcarding in GW32 you will only be interested in the next 3 fixtures and that will get you focusing on players in a different order than I’ve put them

Kane

Another fantastic season for the Spurs striker.  23 goals and 1 assist in 25 starts plus 1 sub appearance.  Returning a goal or assist in 13 of the 25 starts for a 52% return rate on the face of it is very inconsistent for the price.  However then you see that in 8 of those 13 games he’s got double figure FPL point hauls and you see how explosive he is. He’s certainly improved consistency though from the dark days of August and he’s now returned in 4 of the last 5 games.  Has pens btw.

Crystal Palace (A)
Huddersfield (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Likely Blank GW31
Chelsea (A)
Stoke (A)

Firmino

The Liverpool false 9 come CF has started 23 games plus 1 as sub for 12 goals and 7 assists.  His consistency return rate is poor with him only returning a goal or assist in 11 of those 23 starts which is less than the 50% which is a pretty basic level for a premium striker.  However like Kane who also hovers around that mark he is explosive with 7 double digit FPL point hauls.  Only 1 less than Kane and more than Aguero.

Now his big drawback is his underlying stats.  He does have some form in over performing them in the past but not to this extent.  An assessment of Firmino revolves around whether you put any weight on that negative or just say the proof of the pudding is in the eating and not in the mixture.

Has a GW31 fixture

West Ham (H)
Newcastle (H)
Man Utd (A)
Watford (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Everton (A)

Aguero

21 goals and 5 assists in 21 starts and 1 sub appearance is a pretty good start when introducing Aguero.  He’s also been very consistent returning a goal or assist in 14 of those 21 starts (67%) although only 5 have been double figure FPL point hauls.

However we all now how good he is.  The negative is potential gametime issues with Jesus now back in training

 Arsenal EFL Cup 25 Feb
Arsenal (A) 1 March
Chelsea (H) 4 March
Basel (H) 7 March
Stoke (A) 12 March
None
Everton (A) 31 March
Man Utd (H) 7 April

If you wanted to present an optimistic view on gametime you’d say that it’s unlikely Jesus would step into the next 3 difficult games given his long absence but would start in the dead rubber v Basel which would leave 8 days rest for Aguero v Stoke.  There is then a decent time for the International break after that.  Now Pep is totally unpredictable so anything could happen and that is the risk you carry with Aguero.

That’s before the risk for GW28 with him playing the EFL final before the PL fixture next Thursday.

Niasse

It’s been a funny old season for the Everton striker.  Started the season with 2 goals off the bench and then lost his place with Calvert Lewin being preferred.  Then looked back in the frame only for Everton to then spend aload of cash on Tosun to find out he was having a major adjustment issue.

So Niasse after coming on and scoring as sub in GW24 has started the last 3 with a goal and assist in GW27 v Palace.

His underlying stats have been quite phenomenal for the price and that has continued to now.   His last 6 appearances all of them have had very good underlying stats.

Has a GW31 fixture

Watford (A)
Burnley (A)
Brighton (H)
Stoke (A)
Man City (H)
Liverpool (H)

Vardy

His returns aren’t great and neither are his underlying stats but the fixtures are excellent

However he with the help of 4 penalties has kept the points ticking over with 13 goals and 2 assists in 26 starts.  He’s also returned a goal or assist in 14 of those matches which is a good consistency rate.

Just doesn’t seem to be able to get the big scores with only 1 double figure FPL point haul which was in GW1

Stoke (H)
Bournemouth (H)
West Brom (A)
Blank GW31
Brighton (A)
Newcastle (H)

Wilson

Scored 4 goals and 2 assists in an unbroken run of 9 games although blanked in his last 2 disappointingly against Huddersfield and Stoke.  Good underlying stats.  Defoe is back in training which could pose some minutes risk

Newcastle (H)
Leicester (A)
Spurs (H)
West Brom (H)
Watford (A)
Crystal Palace (H)

Lukaku

A few tricky fixtures in there for the man who’s been consistent but just can’t seem to accrue any bonus points.  12 goals and 5 assists in 25 starts plus 1 sub appearance is held back by only 10 bonus points and only 2 double figure FPL point hauls

Chelsea (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Liverpool (H)
Blank GW31
Swansea (H)
Man City (A)

Aubameyang

A bit of a leap of faith at the moment and you have to rely on his very impressive Dortmund days after just 2 games.  That included a completely invisible performance in the loss to Spurs by him and the entire Arsenal team

Man City (H)
Brighton (A)
Watford (H)
Blank 31
Stoke (H)
Southampton (H)

Deeney

Has the advantage of a GW31 fixture, 2 good fixtures next and penalties but little else.  Always near to a suspension.  Started the last 4 after some pretty in and out gametime previously.  Just the 1 penalty in that run v Chelsea.

Everton (H)
West Brom (H)
Arsenal (A)
Liverpool (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Burnley (H)

J Ayew

Another cheap option who’s started the last 8 for Swansea playing 90 minutes in 6 of those games.  Scored 3 goals in that run.  Very good next 3 fixtures

Brighton (A)
West Ham (H)
Huddersfield (A)
None
Man Utd (A)
West Brom (A)
