fantasy premier league – the early GW29 bandwagons and sinking ships

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my view of the fantasy premier league bandwagons and sinking ships for GW29 up coming.  If your’e not familiar these are the 5  most transferred in and the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek.   This week there are a number of international friendlies which means increased midweek injury risk so weigh that up before transferring early.

The fantasy premier league bandwagons

Rooney

The first of many Man United bandwagons for the shortened GW29 which is followed by a DGW in GW31.  With 10 goals and 11 assists and a fantasy premier league point every 13.9 minutes there’s nothing wrong with his returns this year.  Form has dropped off though with 1 goal in his last 5 games.  The theory is that with Mata coming in from the left to find space between the lines this should allow Rooney to become more of a conventional 2 with RVP.  However that doesn’t seem to have panned out and what has happened is that in times when they are chasing the game or seeking to change Rooney drops into midfield and Welbeck comes on. That seems to make no sense to me.  The Palace scenario  though with 4-2-3-1 and Rooney centrally in the 3 flanked by Januzaj and Mata worked well.  Invredibly Moyes dropped that for Olympiakos when he could have just dropped in Kagawa for the ineligible Mata.  Against Palace Rooney scored and played the whole game in an advanced position.  If that continues then he looks a option going forward.  The problem is that you have a manager who’s not that predictable.  After GW29 Man Utd have good fixtures which is an attraction.

Evra

If you’re planning on defensive coverage for United then Evra is the most likely to play 2 games and also has good assist and goal scoring potential with a goal and 5 assists this season.  His LB cover at United is Buttner who’s just not up to it.  The United defence despite some really poor performances still has 9 clean sheets.  That’s only 1 less than Everton Man City and Soouthampton who’ve seen far more investment.  The Fixtures certainly will help.  If you’ve got the cash Evras the best defensive option.

Charlie Adam

If you’re thinking of Charlie Adam then give it some time until it’s clear that he wont face any FA action over his stamp on Giroud.  2 goals and 2 assists in 2 returning games mask the fact that they were the only returns in the last 7 and that he hasn’t returned in the last 3.  Has dropped from playing behind the striker to a more deep lying play maker but is definitely one of the better players shooting outside the box.  Also has set pieces and judging by the way Walters was looking around before taking the penalty to find out that Adam had been subbed, could take pens.  Fixtures are reasonable.

Schurrle

Absolutely lethal finishing for a hat trick against the hapless Fulham defence.  Game time is the issue.  Before that game though he hadn’t started in 7 games and over those 7 games played 31 minutes in total.  He’s only started 8 games this season in fantasy premier league and 3 of those were prior to gameweek 5.  Unfortunately this situation has a precedent.  In GW15 Schurrle scored twice away to Stoke and then didn’t start again for 5 games.  He definitely fits into the fast counter attacking midfielder that Mourinho likes.  So it’s a mystery to me.  Additionally, Oscar has been very hit and miss recently. All of this thinks that maybe this is the time for Schurrle to step forward.  Do you want to risk this in GW29 when you need everyone to play?  Its a big risk to say the least. Reasonable fixtures after GW29

Lallana

1 goal and 2 assists in his last 5 and 3 returning games in his last 5.  Has not returned in the last 2 but was absolutely brilliant in the first half against Liverpool.  Was also very good at West Ham.  Constantly gets into space behind the striker and is the creative force for Southampton.  Bad luck in the last 2 games has to change.  Good fixtures

Fantasy premier league simking ships

Giroud

Really?   In the bandwagons last week and now in the sinking ships?  The fantasy premier league version of marmite, you either love him or hate him.  I actually didn’t think he was that bad against Stoke and had a couple of chances to score.  However, with people probably wanting to hold onto Sturridge and Suarez over GW29 then he is a natural target to sell with a blank in GW29.  Really tough fixtures as well.

Jagielka

Injured and expected back for gameweek 30.  A natural one to sell as they have a blank in GW29 and he’s injured. However there’s 3 excellent fixtures starting at GW30 which will make it a tough decision.

Sturridge

Just as I was saying people will want to hold him he’s on the most transferred out list?  Whoever is doing this must have bought him very recently.  In GW21 he was £9.1m.  Now he’s £10.5m.  Has a doublegameweek in GW31.  Personally I can’t see any reason to sell him.  Fixtures are irrelevant for Liverpool.  They score irrespective of the opposition.

Mertesacker

With the fixtures coming up this is a good time to sell the Arsenal defence.  They have been fantastic.  12 clean sheets and only 4 times have teams scored more than 1 goal. However the fixtures are so tough they are a good sacrifice for me.   Mertesacker is also extremely expensive.

Mirallas

Didn’t play at all in the game against West Ham.  Incredibly talented youngster Deulofeu started and McGeady plus Barkley were the midfield subs.  A bit of a worrying time and a natural time to sell.  The negative is the 3 fixtures after the blank.
