FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW29 – THE BANDWAGONS AND SINKING SHIPS

bandwagons and sinking ships, Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW29 article where we outline and give a view on the most transferred in players so far in the gameweek (the bandwagons) and the most transferred out (the sinking ships). There’s a table of stats on each as well as some narrative on their prospects and their upcoming fixtures

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW29 – THE BANDWAGONS AND SINKING SHIPS

THE BANDWAGONS

These are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek. The fixt ease is for the next 5 and 3 game weeks up to and including GW33.  The uncertainty about the make up of GW34 and postponements into that have made me avoid including it in case it distorts the picture.  Here’s a link to my recent double gameweeks article on the subject to explain.

COSTA

The Chelsea striker looks like one of the natural homes for the Kane money after what could be a reasonable injury layoff for the Spurs striker.  Costa’s 2 goals in each of his last 2 fixtures in a team powering it’s way to the premier league title makes him a natural target.  He’s the leagues Mr Consistency having returned a goal or assist in 17/25 fixtures. However he doesn’t have that ability to regularly produce 10+ FPL point hauls like some of his peers such as Kane or Lukaku.   Interestingly though,  Stoke at home in recent games haven’t been pushovers although at £1.95 anytime goal scoring odds the bookies are obviously nervous he will score.  His underlying stats over the season have been good if not exceptional although dropped off a little recently

Next 5 fixtures to GW33:

KING

The Bournemouth FPL midfielder was already hot property after playing as a striker.  After a hat trick against a truly awful defence he now moves onto another truly awful defence before things start getting tough.  It’s not often for £5.6m you get an FPL midfielder playing as a striker but that is what you’re getting here as he’s playing in a 4-4-2 with Afobe.  Over the season his underlying stats haven’t been that great but recent underlying stats back up his form. He did have pens as well although after missing against West Ham he then relinquished them to Afobe who missed his in even worse fashion.  So who has them now is debatable

Swansea (H)
Southampton (A)
Liverpool (A)
Chelsea (H)
Spurs (A)

LUKAKU

The Everton striker got a  goal and assist in GW28 against the club he was once on loan to.  That gave him yet another 10+ point haul making it 7 for the season.  He’s also adding consistency to his armoury having now passed the magic 50% of games that he’s returned a goal or assist.  His underlying stats show that this is no fluke as well. His refusal to sign a new contract with Everton should see him totally focused on playing well for a Real Madrid type move for the summer.  Mixed fixtures

Hull (H)
Liverpool (A)
Man Utd (A)
Leicester (H)
Burnley (H)

ALLI

2 goals and an assist in his last 2 games plus some good fixtures ahead are the attraction for the Surs attacking midfielder.  He is a quality goal scoring midfielder who gets in the box and regularly plays close to the striker.  The Kane injury is an interesting point though.  I think if Son plays striker then it will at least be as good a position for Alli.  Son playing as an attacking midfielder, often ahead of Alli, has been where Alli has been less effective.  Pochettino has been talking up Son as a striker so at the moment this seems a possible solution should Kane be injured long term.  By the way Alli scored 2 goals in the 5 games Kane was injured earlier in the season.  I believe Son played striker in only a couple of those games though.

Southampton (H)
Burnley (A)
Swansea (A)
Watford (H)
Bournemouth (H)

KANE

I can’t remember a time when a player has been in both the bandwagons and the sinking ships section of this article.  However this is the case this week with the Spurs striker.  These are presumably early transfers prior to the FA Cup game in which he got injured.  No time frame has been given as yet but given the statements made it’s hard to see he will be playing for a couple of gameweeks at least.  As I said above Poch has been talking up HM Son as a striker so that would be a fairly enticing option with Son as a £6.8m midfielder.  He certainly was successful against Millwall in the FA Cup although that has to be seen in the context of the opposition.  Hopefully the end of week press conference will reveal more

Southampton (H)
Burnley (A)
Swansea (A)
Watford (H)
Bournemouth (H)

THE SINKING SHIPS

These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek. As I said above, the fixt ease is for the next 5 and 3 game weeks up to and including GW33.  The uncertainty about the make up of GW34 and postponements into that have made me avoid it in case it distorts the picture.  Here’s a link to my recent double gameweeks article on the subject

KANE

I think I said it all in the bandwagons above

Southampton (H)

LlORENTE

The sinking ships this week really is a tale of injuries.  The Swansea striker went off against Hull after 44 mins with a dead leg.  There doesn’t appear to be any recent updates on his injury status but the initial reactions was to hope he would be fit.  The excellent site physioroom rate him as a slight doubt for GW29.  Given that why would you take him out this early in the week before a match against one of the worst defences in the league.  At least wait until the press conferences on Friday.  Given it’s an international break after this week it’s hard to think that in the worst case it will be more than a 1 game absence

Middlesbrough (H)
Spurs (H)
West Ham (A)
Watford (A)

PHILLIPS

The WBA winger has posted 5 consecutive blanks followed by 3 no shows with poor information on injuries given out.  It finally turns out to be a hamstring.  The only reason he’s been held so long by FPL managers was in the hope he would provide at least 2 points in the blank week of GW28.  Given the above, the fact that he’s a major doubt for GW29 and his next opponent is Arsenal, then it’s a pretty nailed on sale

Arsenal (H)
Man Utd (A)
Watford (A)
Southampton (H)
Liverpool (H)

IBRAHIMOVIC

The Man Utd forward is suspended for 2 premier league games after his elbow on Bournemouth defender Mings.  They are reasonably good fixtures and I suspect Rashford will play striker in his absence.  Whether you think he’s worth the transfer for 2 games is another point especially as Rooney or Martial could also play there if either of them are fit.

Middlesbrough (A)
West Brom (H)
Everton (H)
Sunderland (A)
Chelsea (H)

FIRMINO

If ever there was a game you don’t want a player in your FPL team injured for it’s Burnley at home.  However that was the case with the Liverpool FPL midfielder currently playing as a centre forward.   However, the latest reports seem to have Klopp hopeful that he will be fit to start against Man City in GW29. However if you’re looking to exit Firmino then in theory that is as good a game as any to do so.  The only doubt would be that Liverpool seem to play better against the leading sides who don’t just seem to play deep and pack the box.  The negative about Firmino though is that since his purple patch up to GW11 he’s only had 4 games in 17 where he has returned a goal or assist.  However he does continue to play the central striker role which is always going to give you hope.   He has returned  in 2 of the 3 games he’s played that position since Mane has come back from AFCON
