 B Davies

With Spurs home to Huddersfield at the weekend it’s, on the face of it,  a perfect time to get the Spurs LB into your team.  He certainly has good attacking stats with 2 goals and 6 assists and as you can see also see from his underlying stats ranking.  The difficulty is the rotation policy of Poch and the full backs and the unpredictability of selection between him and Danny Rose.  What makes it worse is that Davies has come on as a sub 3 times each for 1 minute!

Davies at the moment seems to be the favoured LB as he’s started the last 8 premier league games.  However 4 of those were when Rose was injured but Rose has played both lower placed opposition FACup games and a UCL game v Nicosea.

I suspect Rose will start tonight v Rochdale and Davies will start next Wednesday against Juventus in the UCL and probably v Huddersfield at the weekend.  However, that’s only my thoughts and I can’t predict what Poch will do.  That Huddersfield risk and an ongoing risk is what you take on when transferring Davies in.

Shaqiri

Incredible to think that he’s scored in 3 consecutive games when you think that prior to that it was 1 assist in 8 starts.   What’s more is that he’s scored 7 in total over the season and never more than 4 in a PL season before that.  When you see of the 3 goals 1 was a header from not the tallest guy ever and the other 2 were from a decent distance outside the box it gains a bit of context and it could be argued the Shaqiri ship has now sailed and those getting on have missed the best of him.  Looking at the underlying stats he has taken a decent amount of shots in the last few games but not those of good quality.

However I would suggest him as a good bet for the blank GW31 although the fixtures prior to that and after that aren’t that helpful

Willian

The Chelsea AM just can’t stop scoring at the moment with 2 goals v Hull in the FA Cup, 1 v Barca in the UCL and 1 v Man Utd at the weekend in the PL.  Such is his recent form that it’s hard to see him not playing going forward and he is great value for a Chelsea AM.  However, I would have to have very little else to do in my team to transfer him in v  Man City.  The fact also remains that he’s only started 3 games in the last 9 (albeit those 3 games have elicited 38 points).

My own view for what it’s worth is that if Conte plays 3-4-3 it’s hard to imagine he won’t start with Morata and Hazard.  If Conte goes to 3-5-2 then I can see Fabregas playing with Kante and Bakayoko/Drinkwater

Robertson

Got the assist in the win over West Ham in a barnstorming performance down the left flank although 33 year old Zabaleta is hardly the most challenging opponent.  In theory does have competition from Moreno but is great value at £4.8m and hard to see him dropped for GW31 where he will be very useful.  Moreno I imagine will play in the dead rubber v Porto next week.  Great entry point fixture next

Can

Personally I wouldn’t be wasting a Liverpool place in my FPL team on this CM for either Newcastle or the potential blank GW31.  Salah, Firmino and A defender or Mane seem the better use of the 3 places available.  3 goals and 6 assists in 21 starts plus 2 as sub  isn’t a bad return for the price I just don’t think it’s the best use of the Liverpool spots

Sterling

Injured for the EFL Cup final at the weekend but pictured in training this week.  I find it a little strange that the 3rd highest point scorer in FPL should be sold before managers have even seen whether he will play on Thursday.    15  goals and 10 assists in 22 starts plus 3 as sub is a phenomenal record for a midfielder at a pretty handy price as well.  He also has underlying stats which as a midfielder are only bettered by Salah.

Phil Jones

Injured with no return date and nothing helpful coming out of Mourinho’s mouth at the moment about it.  With Bailly back and Smalling playing a number of games it will be hard to establish a first choice CB pair until all 3 are fit so Valencia or De Gea seem the only safe options at the moment

Son HM

After 13 consecutive starts in the premier league the continued presence in the FA Cup and the 4 consecutive blanks pointed to a possible sub appearance which duly arrived in GW28.  What’s more he wasn’t even first choice to come on with Moura replacing Lamela before Son.  If you’re an owner that’s all you need before a home game v Huddersfield.  If he starts in the FA Cup match v Rochdale then it’s hard to see him starting at the weekend although the midweek Juve UCL game does confuse matters somewhat.

8 goals and 5 assists in 20 starts and 7 sub appearances is reasonably good going.  The underlying stats are also very good henece the ranking and even in the 4 blanks there were 2 good goal threat stats with 2 invisible games as well.

Walcott

After 2 goals and an assist in his first 2 Everton starts it’s been 3 consecutive blanks for the former Arsenal AM.  While at Arsenal he routinely posted very good underlying stats and started in the same vein for Everton the last performances have seen him do as close to nothing as you can possibly come.  With Big Sam constantly telling everyone that clean sheets are the answer to premier league security it doesn’t inspire confidence for the future but at this stage it’s hard to say if this is a permanent slump for Walcott or a 2 game one.  One thing for sure is that Big Sam must be gunning for a 0-0 v Burnley away

Deulofeu

An ankle injury sustained in the 1-0 victory over Everton looks like it will mean he will be out for sometime although no return date has been given as yet.  I expect Carillo, who was the sub for him, will start as a replacement unless Gracia goes for 2 up top.  Carrillo’s stats aren’t anything flash with a goal and 3 assists this season in 15 starts plus 10 sub appearances.
