fantasy premier league GW3 – the early bandwagons and sinking ships

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW3 bandwagons and sinking ships article where we outline our view on the 5 most transferred in and out players so far in the gameweek.  The sinking ship picture seemed more appropriate at the moment.

The Bandwagons

Well the transfers are really rolling in now.  Here are the 5 most transferred in players so far in the gameweek in order

Mahrez (£5.7m)

A 10 point haul to follow his 15 point haul last week.  Again the underlying shooting and creating chances stats were very good in that game and overall so far to show that it was no fluke.  The fixtures are also very good going forward.  He’s also in a team that’s scored 6 goals in their first 2 games.  He also maybe the penalty taker depending on forwards on the pitch.  So on the face of it everything is rosy. The only question is whether this is sustainable.   Last season he got 4 goals and 5 assists at an FPL rate of 20.4 minutes which is slightly lower than you’d potentially like although not terrible for the price.  Last season he returned a goal or assist in 5/30 games which is a consistency rate of 17%.  Thats poor.  There was also only 1 return in the last 10 starts.  None of those are great stats.

Spurs (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Stoke (A)
Arsenal (H)
Norwich (A)

Aguero (£13.0m)

Was absolutely incredible against Chelsea and could easily have had a hat trick instead of his 6 point haul.  City look like they could dismantle any team after the way they played in that game.  So far this season it’s 1 start,  1 sub appearance and 1 goal.  His underlying shooting stats in that game were incredible and no one has better stats on a per minute basis.  Also excellent fixtures to come.  One of the players identified in my article (cut and paste into a seperate tab)

Crystal Palace (A)
West Ham (H)
Spurs (A)
Newcastle (H)

YaYa Toure (£8.6m)

Just an assist in this game and 5 points to follow his 16 point haul.  No underlying shooting or creating chances stats but no problem for YYT.  Thats just the way he rolls.  You just have to believe in him rather than just try and analyse it.  Certainly everyone has points potential in this City team if they continue at this rate.  Great fixtures and pens when Aguero is off the field

Everton (A)
Watford (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
West Ham (H)
Spurs (A)
Newcastle (H)

Gomis (£7.1m)

2 goals in 2 games to start is pretty impressive.  Although 1 was a pen which is good news.  Both games have seen sending offs with the opposition which maybe a diluting factor.  No bonus points in either though which is a bit of a surprise.  Does have reasonable underlying shooting stats from those 2 games as well.  Last year it was an FPL point every 19.6 minutes which is pretty ordinary although you could put that to an adjustment period to the premier league especially as he was a sub in the main and didn’t really have a proper run until Bony was transferred.  Mixed fixtures

Sunderland (A)
Man Utd (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (A)
Spurs (H)

Kompany (£6.1m)

2 games 2 clean sheets and 2 goals. 2 goals after none last season is quite an incredible.  Certainly the underlying defensive stats for Man City are excellent although they have played 2 teams who have tried to defend the 2 fixtures.  Very unsuccessfully.  Lets not forget that although City supposedly had a disastrous defensive season last year only Chelsea, Southampton and WBA had better clean sheet records.  Very good fixtures to come as well.

Everton (A)
Watford (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
West Ham (H)
Spurs (A)
Newcastle (H)

The Sinking Ships

These are the 5 most transferred out players so far in the gameweek in order

Rooney (£10.5m)

After 2 games with only 1 fortuitous assist and 2 pretty tortuous performances from Man Utd it’s no surprise Rooney has been the fall guy for Aguero transfers in.  Bound to see some price falls this week to make it worse.  Your eyes aren’t deceiving you as well. His lack of goals isn’t just bad luck, his shooting stats are probably the worst of any forward out there.  The only question at the moment is whether you want to give him one more chance at home to Newcastle.  Last season his record was ok as a forward and he scored or assisted in every of the 5 home games.  It wasn’t anything like that away though.  Fixtures are pretty mixed after the Newcastle game though

Newcastle (H)
Swansea (A)
Liverpool (H)
Southampton (A)
Sunderland (H)
Arsenal (A)

Hazard (£11.5m)

3 points in 2 games is always going to see a huge negative reaction for the most expensive midfielder.  It’s not just been bad luck.  His underlying shooting and creating chances stats are terrible.  To give you some context James McArthur of Palace and James Morrison of WBA have better creating chances and shooting stats respectively than Hazard at the moment.  Now it’s only 2 games so it’s whether you think that this is a blip or something worse for the player who had the best overall record last season for midfielders and was the most consistent midfield returner.  Certainly the fixtures aren’t much help being quite mixed

West Brom (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Everton (A)
Arsenal (H)
Newcastle (A)
Southampton (H)

Kane (£9.5m)

2 games no goals no assists.  Thats always going to be a recipe for mass sales.  Although he did his fantastic season last year on very ordinary underlying shooting and creating chances stats this season so far they haven’t been that bad.  The main issue is that he seems to be overpriced considering he’s just had 1 fantastic season.  The fixtures are a little mixed but do have some potential.  Certainly Leicester away next is one you could justify giving him 1 more chance in

Leicester (A)
Everton (H)
Sunderland (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Man City (H)
Swansea (A)

Walcott (£9.0m)

2 games on the bench with the game against Palace in GW2 not even seeing him get on the pitch is going to signal sales.  It’s hard to justify holding him after that no matter what the potential he has.  Liverpool home next doesn’t help any hold position.

Liverpool (H)
Newcastle (A)
Stoke (H)
Chelsea (A)
Leicester (A)
Man Utd (H)

Depay (£8.5m)

Given that he’s played in such an advanced position against 2 pretty ordinary defences without a return it’s no surprise he’s on the transfers out list.  The poor attacking performances of Man Utd won’t of helped at all either.  His underlying shooting stats haven’t been that bad though and with Newcastle next if you’re thinking of holding there are worse times to do it

Newcastle (H)
Swansea (A)
Liverpool (H)
Southampton (A)
Sunderland (H)
Arsenal (A)
