fantasy premier league GW30 – some early thoughts on the FFGeek team

Here’s some early FFGeek team thoughts in this fantasy premier league GW30 article. We look at gameweek 29, some issues facing the teams, transfer thoughts and early captain thinking

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW30 – SOME EARLY THOUGHTS ON THE FFGEEK TEAM

So firstly it’s important to remind you I’m continuing with my 2 team theme as a result of my accidental free hit chip being used in GW23.

Team 1 is the team with the free hit chip lost.

Team 2 has the free hit team intact and was cloned from one of my alternate FFGeek teams to be my original team through a -28 point hit.

Team 2 is to help people who were following my original team as a reference point so they can continue doing so.

Team 1 will help those people who used their free hit chip earlier in the season.

Both teams require totally different strategies to navigate through the potential blank and double gameweeks up coming

Here was my team selection article going into the gameweek if you’re interested

GW29 PERFORMANCE – FREE HIT LOST TEAM

GW29 points: 66 (average 46) Total points 1,709 Gameweek rank 180k Overall Rank: 42k green arrow 18k Team Value: £103.0m

Here’s the team points from the  gameweek. An 18k green arrow to 42k OR.

Well a good week and my gameweek rank of 180k is my 3rd best of the season.  Mainly due to Son but the defence didn’t do any harm either.

If you read my early FFGeek team thoughts article from last week you’ll recall that I was lamenting how I had so many out of form players in my team and that was principally down to injuries needing transfers and my dislike of taking hits.

In my mind there are basically 2 types of transfers,  reactive transfers and pro active transfers.

Reactive transfers are those reactions to generally injuries and players losing their place in their team.  Pro active transfers are where you take a player who doesn’t have any gametime issues or injury but you take him out to replace with a player you think will score more points over a period due to fixtures or form or a combination of both.

Reactive transfers are safer transfers which should always return a positive outcome as the alternative points outcome would be zero.  Proactive transfers aren’t necessarily guaranteed to have a positive outcome given the vagaries of player performance.  To that extent they are riskier and if you’re throwing in 4 point deductions to do proactive transfers on top of your reactive ones you’re upping the risk quotient.  Now greater risk means greater potential for upside as well as downside.  As I said I generally don’t like to take hits unless it’s a massive shield against a big captain favourite for the gameweek.    I do believe that if you take hits they have to work out or they will affect your rank.

The fact that I have been making reactive transfers for some weeks now on a 1 by 1 basis has meant that I have had Richarlison and Ogbonna in my team for long periods when most FPL managers waved them goodbye long ago.  However it has given me some massive luck with 16 points from Son last week and 12 from Niasse the week before.  These were players with pretty questionable form before that who could have easily been transferred out.  Whether I would have done better with a more aggressive pro active approach is certainly debatable and something we’ll never know but it’s nice to get some lucky surprises every now and then.

Problems with the team

I have 1 free transfer and £2.6m in the bank.

The plan has been to carry over 2 transfers this week so I have 2 for GW31 for maximum flexibility.  However problems in the team continue mounting.

 Niasse and Kenny

Both lost their place this week.  Kenny out of the squad for GW29 and likely to be permanently out with Coleman back.  Niasse is a short term problem at the very least with Tosun scoring against Burnley.  A pain when you consider it’s Brighton at home next.

Ogbonna

The first transfer out when I wildcard will be this guy.  Any team who concedes 4 goals at Swansea really isn’t one you want double defence representation with.  Also an injury doubt through illness.

Sterling

I don’t know what’s going on here but something isn’t right when he’s pictured in training last week then not in the squad for the game against Chelsea with Pep offering no explanation.  Man City play Basel in an dead rubber on Wednesday in the UCL but I can’t imagine he’ll feature there so it’s just wait and hope he’s fully recovered and that’s there’s nothing more to it.  He was certainly pictured in training again this week so surely he’ll be fit.

Transfer options

As I said above 1 free transfer and £2.6m in the bank.

I had wanted to carry over a free transfer to have 2 for GW31 for maximum flexibility.

However both Everton and Huddersfield have good fixtures this week and relatively good ones in GW31.  I like Walcott from Everton and Mounie from Huddersfield which are both options.  Also both defences could be worth a throw of the dice.  Probably Coleman and Zanka would be my choices there.  Needs further cogitating

I do want a GK but probably not this week with Adrian home to Burnley although I could play Ogbonna instead.

BLANK AND DOUBLE GAMEWEEK THOUGHTS

So far I have Van Dijk, Salah, Firmino, Richarlison, and McArthur who I feel confident will start in GW31.  Niasse should get 20 mins from the bench but Kenny looks unlikely to feature.  I will probably get Shaqiri with 1 of the 2 transfers I have but as he’s against Man City that’s one for GW31 itself.  I also want a GK and at the moment Butland or Lossl look the likely option.

How all of that works plus the players above like Walcott with 2 transfers I don’t know but 7 starting GW31 players appears the maximum at the moment.

My plan at the moment is wildcard GW32, Bench Boost GW34, Triple captain GW35 or 37. Remember this team has no free hit chip.

How to play the Richarlison, Niasse, Kenny and Ogbonna quartet is the main thing needing some though.

CAPTAIN THOUGHTS

Hard to imagine anyone except Kane for this week

GW29 PERFORMANCE – FREE HIT INTACT TEAM

This team is as if I didn’t make an accidental free hit ie the same as my original team and was cloned from one of my alternate FFGeek teams to be my original team through a -28 point hit. I will keep it to show how I would have navigated through the blanks with all the chips intact. I think that will be helpful for those who were using my original team as a reference point

GW29 points: 53 (average 46) Total points 1,653 Gameweek rank 1,490k Overall Rank: 181k green arrow 2k Team Value: £101.5m

Here’s the points.  The smallest of 2k green arrows to 181k OR.

So an ok week.  Not a disaster but not a good week either.

Kenny is the likely transfer if I’m going to make one here but that does limit next week so I’m likely to carry one over.  7 GW31 players plus Kenny.
