fantasy premier league GW30 – The FFGeek team

Fantasy Premier League

After a night to think about it following the Yaya Toure injury news I’ve made my transfer and selected my team for the mass blank week of GW30.  As usual we talk through the transfers and the dilemmas/options faced plus the team selection and the captain choice

fantasy premier league GW30 – The FFGeek team

So all week I’ve known that I can get 12 players out for GW30 but have rotation risks with Walker and Otamendi plus earlier in the week Yaya Toure.  Do I make my 1 transfer for insurance against that rotation or do I carry it over to have more flexibility and a transfer up my sleeve.  That just gives memore options  for the decision as to whether to Wildcard for the potential DGW34 or the potential DGW37.  In the end the Yaya Toure injury sealed it and I’ve made a transfer to replace YYT.

Here’s the team:

The transfer

There’s no doubt that if I had the cash I would have put Silva in the team but cash I didn’t have. With Mahrez, Alli and Ozil in the team only Payet is not covered in the top 10k ownership stakes. This transfer is my differential.  So  my thoughts immediately turned to the very differential Sterling of Man City.  You have to think with De Bruyne injured and Yaya Toure injured that he had a good chance of starting.  The problem is with City playing 2 strikers it limits the attacking mids to 2 with Silva likely to be 1.  That leaves a fight between Navas and Sterling and a position thats fairly wide too.  His recent minutes have been fairly hit and miss and for me it was just too much of a gametime risk.  Shame as any score could happen against Norwich.

After that I looked at 3 players.  Josh King of Bournemouth facing Swansea and probably playing as a number 10.  Sigurdsson of Swansea playing Bournemouth away but with Villa next.  Last option was Wijnaldum of Newcastle.  Difficult fixture next away to Leicester but then Sunderland and Norwich after that.

King would have been an excellent option for this game and it would have given me a chance to swap out Surman for another in the next round.  Spurs and Man City next though if things didn’t go to plan and 2 Bournemouth midfielders put me off that.

Wijnaldum was an intriguing option.  A potentially explosive player and one of the few decent attacking options for Newcastle.  He also has a DGW and a guaranteed GW35 game which is an attraction for flexibility over your “to wildcard in GW33 or not” choice.  Difficult fixture next with Leicester away but then Sunderland and Norwich after that.  I’m happy that Benitez has joined Newcastle from the GK Elliot perspective (if not the Mahrez and Vardy one) as he should improve them defensively.  However Wijnaldum isn’t the most defensively hard working guy in the world and the Benitez affect on him is somewhat uncertain. Thats before you get to no returns in the last 6 and no underlying stats plus an appaling consistency return rate. However fixture gambles are just that,  go for fixtures and sometimes you sacrifice form for that gamble.

So Siggy ended up the default option.  Don’t get me wrong his form has been good and that has interestingly seen an improvement in his underlying shooting stats of recent times.  He also his strong set piece representation and could take pens if they get one.  He also has Villa next which is a big attraction and really is the midfield fulcrum of the team.  The negative is that Swansea are hardly a free scoring team and from an attacking point of view I’ve rated them 18th in the premier league.  They’ve barely scored a goal a game away from home and 2 of the next 3 are away.

So despite that Siggy it ended up.

The team selection

No need for thought here.  To get a late injury and still have 12 players potentially lining up was good news so Surman again warms the bench.

The captain choice

At the moment I’ve gone for Aguero but a captain choice article to follow

Good luck all with your team selection and transfers for fantasy premier league GW30
